It can be sweet if jobs are steady, and you have less overhead expenses, and maybe single too.

Start by changing your payment method. Delete your Nigerian card and add your Canadian card. You don't need to go IP route since you're already in Canada.

She has 5kids. For that, a nanny would be cheaper than daycare. I highly doubt if the government wil subsize payment for nanny services.

There are websites offering Nanny and child minder services. One can also find by joining Facebook groups within the community. I know a nanny could cost around 2k and up for maybe 2 kids. I don't know if they will want more money for more kids.

I am seeing $30 bucks an hour. Chai.
Maybe I should enrol on a nanny course too and work casual grin

Lol the cost of childcare services is the real contraceptive in Canada. Back in Naija, I wondered why they have an ageing population but living here even me sef don dey fear pikin.

Winter/Christmas pictures please we need it not just talking talking ..we need sweet inspirational pictures too

This is where I'd join in deriding Canada or "badmouthing", hopefully I don't get caned for airing my honest views. I could share some awesome Christmas abi Winter pics but fact is that all the fun starts and ends at it looking picturesque. The experience is often lacklustre if not outrightly boring, it can easily leave a Nigerian complaining or just realising its empty lol. Winter and its snow might look pretty but trust me when I say the true beauty is the summer sun, lol there isnt any sane person who loves Canadian winter. Anyways, I digress.

Our christmas at best has the vibe of a workers day public holiday in Naija.... It is even worse for our bros who are muslims, their salah here can easily get them feeling homesick & dejected. In my opinion, Canadian christmas is awfully quiet. It's a caucus kinda thing, mostly happens indoors with your family and close friends only, unlike naija where you can be a stranger and still catch the festive feeling even weeks before. This could be a good or bad thing, depending on your kind of person, and your networks here.

Personally I miss the pomp and liveliness of not just naija's christmas but any celeberation in Naija and with it's people. But then again, Naija comes with the chaos that caused me to run away to Canada. Hence when we complain, its often with a tongue in cheek.

Some of these estimates are quite conservative lol.

I live in the GTA and the minimum spend on food if im cooking every meal and not going hungry skipping meals to save money is $300 a month(and even that is tight)

Please may I have your house address? So I can come eat christmas food at your place. How only you go just eat $300 foodstuff in a month when I dey hungry? Abeg pm me your house address.

bro dkm! I’m a big guy so that doesn’t help matters but still there’s no way i could spend less .. and these prices are me shopping at walmart buying Great Value products whenever possible

3 good meals a day , I really don’t see how you could spend less than that in GTA / Ottawa / MTL.. Can’t speak for other places

Also relationship between household size and food cost aint proportional .

family of 1 spending 300 on food doesn’t mean family of 2 spends 600 and family of 3 spends 900

Lol..you arr very correct..Xmas celebration in nigeria cant be compared to anywhere in the world.Expeciall on 24th night, the hañgouts, isiewu joints and clubs grin..But then again its back to sad reality in 9ja once the festive holidays are over.

Winter is indeed boring, but I would pick it anytime anyday to the failed system in Nigeria..

na to born two max and zip it up. Except you already had them from naija where support dey. Cost of raising a child here is not beans. With the rising cost of everything one can think of. The child benefit is hardly enough, and once you start earning something substantial, the benefit goes down to less than 100 bucks a month to close to nothing. Post secondary education is not cheap either, especially if the kids decide to school away from home.

After watching how Sowore was manhandled in court, I can't imagine what will happen to a commoner. It seems now that protesting against the powers in Nigeria might get one locked up forever.

We just started to 'smell' Christmas today in my part of Lagos and I wondered when next I'd smell it once we moved early 2020.

Thank you for the picture

I'm a practicing Physiotherapist here in Nigeria and would love to continue once we arrive Canada and get my license.

My question though, is for people who work or know of Senior Nursing Facilities or Adult Day Care or any thing like that.

My workplace here has been so gracious to allow organize group exercise classes for Seniors which is what really interests me. However, what I'd like is more information from landed colleagues who have gone this route.

It may be a total change in career from Physio to Adult Care or even just working as a physio in a Senior Nursing Facility.

We intend to land in Alberta because we have family there thus making settling a little less stressful. I checked the Alberta website and I saw that mostly what is required is a post-secondary education and some 18 months certification from a college / university in Alberta. Some organizations even let you learn on the job.

Any one with more information? I'd really appreciate it. Even from other provinces.

Thank you

Register your company Inc. or Ltd, get your HST account number to receive HST for the govt and start hunting for jobs. No big deal. Licensing requirement if any is a separate thing which should be specific to your niche .

I don't know where you got your info from. I believe this depends on your profession/industry e.g. In construction, winter months are the slowest, For healthcare, winter months are good, some are not even affected at all etc

While you study to get certified as a Physiotherapist in Canada, its possible for you to initially train as a Physical therapy assistant or Recreational Assistant, and work with that certification for a while.

But if you are interested in Adult care you will need to get certified and licenced as an Health Care Aide (HCA).Your Location in Alberta will determine the best college you can consider for HCA, you may wish to check : Bow valley College and Red deer college.

Hello dear, I'm quite interested in the HCA certification. But I'm looking at Norquest college because it's in Edmonton and that's my destination. Please what do you think? When can I start to apply as we're landing by month end.

Hello everyone,

I would be landing in Winnipeg/Manitoba in January. Please, I would like to know if there is a group for Winnipeg as I need information about how to get accommodation and advice on settling down.

Any advice from anyone here is also welcome.

Thank you.
