Geographers in the house this is for you, due to what I know Nigeria has just two seasons which is rain and dry season.

With my little knowledge I know snow can only fall in a place where there is constant cold and Nigeria is located in a geographical area that has low altitude.

But this season it seems the cold is worst than any other seasons, is it possible that Nigeria might have been relocated to an area that has a high altitude? Expertise over to you.

Thank you.

With the change in climate after about 50yrs, the little you know in geography class is outdated..
Jos is 6°c yesterday, Biu is 8°c. So is just a matter of time before we witness Snow here.

Are you referring to the migration of Nigerians to other climes?

nope.

for snowfall to occur, the temperature has to be really cold both at the cloud level and also close to the ground. for most part of the year in Nigeria, the temperature doesn't support snowfall.

one might argue harmattan period is usually cold enough, but...

harmattan is a really dry period, i.e., humidity is low, and as such precipitation (in this case snow) cannot occur.

there are numerous other factors in place, kindly use Google for more info.

Yes there's a place call panshin in Plateau state. Snow used to fall in that place. The second coldest in Africa. As it is now Jos is very cold right now.

It depends on the climate. An ocean current might be carrying a cold wind into West Africa.

To start with, snow is a form of precipitation just like rainfall. Thus, both needs water vapour to form which is only present in raining seasons (water vapour is present only in raining season due to influx of monsoon air mass inland). During the presence of this monsoon air mass, Nigeria cannot experience such low temperatures (Freezing temperature), thus we rather have rainfall or hail at most during raining season. since the atmosphere is dry during harmattan, there is no water vapour to support such process.

Re: Can Snow Ever Fall In Nigeria? by Nicklaus619(m): 6:31pm On Jan 03, 2020
It's a simple analogy
Countries that experience snow fall are those country that their temperature is negative for example, country like Canada has at least negative degree centigrade / celcius which snow forms when tiny ice crystals in clouds stick together to become snowflakes. If enough crystals stick together, they'll become heavy enough to fall to the ground. ... Snow is formed when temperatures are low and there is moisture in the atmosphere in the form of tiny ice crystals.
In short terms, snow will only fall in Nigeria when we have negative degree celcius.
