How has Buckingham university become "prestigious"? Is it no longer an extension of Nigerian universities? That is where it is easy for Nigerians to get admission and the fees are far cheaper than the prestigious universities. OP take your time there.

For everyone shouting They take their children abroad...here are some points.

(N.B- I am not defending Kalu, and am VERY HAPPY he is in jail. May he stay there )

1.School fees in the UK for unviersities are 9000 pounds for citizens, 12000 pounds and above for foreigners.(except in Scotalnd where it is free for Scots)

2.In the US, for unviersites, fees range between 3000 dollars and as high as 60000dollars.

3.In Nigeria, fees are less than 500 dollars yearly in government universites.

As a result, our unviersites are chornically underfunded.

4.Funding for educaiton in Nigeria is less than one trillion per annum. For developed countries, funding for university is in the tens of trillions alone. (Nigeria spent 3 billion dollars on education alone. Canada spent 70 billion dollars on primary education alone).

The truth is, if we want good education, we need money. More than what we budget for. And we cannot be expecting 20000 dollars worth of education from fees of 200 dollars. It is not possible.

Yes our parents went to school for free....when the total number of students in one university was less than 5000 students. That same university is now carrying 50000 students, if not more.

And where are we going to find the money?? When we are spending the money we could have used for educaiton on National Assembly, Presidential Jet, and even the waste called fuel subsidy, which people are using to chop. And even then, it is not enough.

Plus, we keep on voting the same old, whether PDP or APC.

Another nonsense talk, if her father had any conscience and invested Abia state money in education rather than SLOK maybe things will have being slightly different.

Sure and there is nothing wrong with that. However, what is wrong is when institutions at home rot away and are not up to the standards of schools these politicians send their kids to. Lee Kuan Yew's children schooled abroad; in fact, his son - Lee Hsien Loong (current Singapore's prime minister) - studied in Cambridge - Yew's alma mater. However, universities in Singapore are amongst the best with the National University of Singapore being in the top 20 globally and the Nanyang Technological University being in the top 50. So it is not mutually exclusive to send your kids abroad for studies as a politician and develop your local institutions.

That's the more reason the masses should revolt against the rich and the powerful. They suck the wealth of the country dry, they decimated the educational system to the extent that the system is a ghost of its former self and then they send their kids overseas for studies. If they honestly believe that they are doing a good job in terms of governance, they should have their children going to school in Nigeria just like the rest.

Just like Lee Kaun, Awolowo and Zik studied and returned to Nigeria to build world-class universities such as Ife and UNN , their children also studied in local universities, Awo grandson Segun Awolowo studied law at the old Ogun state university.

These UK universities are becoming magic centres. One 1st class in geography another in law for people who could not pass jamb in Nigeria. Wasting Nigerian looted money to buy paper certificates from UK, of what use will the certificates be?

Because the curriculum over there is purely british theories and case studies nothing like nigeria whatsoever. is better doing law in uk at masters level.
