Happy New year bros

MuttleyLaff:
Happy New and rewarding Year to you CaveAdullam. I am filled with awe, even, still, long after finding out the meaning of your moniker.

I digress, but back to the new year 2020. Not many have thought of the significance of 20, actually repeating itself in this new year, you know repeating just like in those sort of "truly, truly ..." John 1:51, John 3:3 etcetera Johannine biblical intro phrases, and the thing is, it is repeating itself for a "credible" and truthfully significant reason(s). Yeah, its the season thanks to one mister PrecisionFx, for getting me to use the word "credible" here, lol. "Credible" is in vogue thanks to him, lol. Anyway, as I was saying, the new year, apparently is sounding off a robust and/or uncompromising message(s) to whom and/or those applicable, by deliberately and consciously repeating the number twenty twice.

I know there's the negative and positive sides of the number 20, but I strongly believe that because of the 20 repetition being done, in this case, twice, then this year is really all about the positives, and so its identifying with those, more so than with the negatives.

For the sake of twenty, God will not destroy (i.e. Genesis 18:31, lol) Happy rewarding 2020, CaveAdullam.

With that said and done, here's a Happy 2020 to the, our ọga, at the top, Seun.

What is the sin in celebrating New year.

Are you saying that we should be sad or grief that we saw the new year?

We should be happy that we survived to the next day, not just a single day, 31st December.

The new year is not the problem, but this festivities originated from somewhere, and much the same significance is still maintained till date.

The pagans originated the new year festivity. They did so because of false belief about a new year.

As a Christian, I feel that even if I want to start up a celebration, I wouldn't want to copy the pagans nor associate myself with there superstitions. Also, the Jews and Christians in the first century must be aware of these festivities, yet neither Jesus nor his disciples engaged in this pagan festival.

Of course you can make your own decision.

Personally, I feel it will offend my God to copy pagans while serving Him. The encyclopedia shows how this whole thing came up.

Are there things in life unconnected to pagans? Yes. God has a way He outlined He is to be worshipped just like false gods have their's. God's ways can be gleaned from the scriptures.

The remembrance of Christ's death is originated by him. Christian assembly is not from pagans. To mention but a few.

You still did not answer my question.

There are things the bible are silent on, which are up yo our discretion to know if it is right or wrong.
Example in the Bible there was nothing like football and some sports which will participate in, are you saying that because some of those sports have pagan origin than those involved in them are going to Hell.
Do you know that Olympics have pagan Origin?
same with most of the products you use daily most have pagan or occult logo and symbols?

The Bible recommends physical training. (1tim 4:cool

There are things that have pagan origin and up till now still maintain that significance. I feel that engaging in such activities will soil my relationship with God. For that will mean that am engaging in worship unacceptable by God.

Olympic is pagan and I still see it maintain that significance till date. Notice they always have that flame, without which the Olympic won't hold. I don't watch nor participate in Olympic games.

JMAN05:
The Bible recommends physical training. (1 Tim 4:8.)

Hairyrapunzel:
Even internet you use has pagan origin and still has pagan significance yet you use it. Smh

Hairyrapunzel:
Encyclopedia is even of pagan origin. Secular sources and you make reference to it. Lol
It gets funnier even because most of the names of all our days of the week and months of the year, lol, have pagan origins.

Case in point. January, is named after Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and endings. Also, the ancient Romans, had the last day of the week, Saturday, named "dies Saturni" meaning “Saturn’s Day” done in honor of Saturn, the Roman god of wealth and agriculture. Other days of week, like Wednesday and Thursday, are days named in honor Norse gods Wodan (Odin) and Thor.

I don't think so. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Sunday-day-of-week

However, we do worship God irrespective of the day.

God gave you a special day written with his finger and you feel you can change it.

Google on the truth about the origin of Sunday worship.

Now that will take us to whether Christians should observe the mosaic law. I believe the law is out of the way.

For now, the Bible didn't stipulate any rest day for Christians, nor a special worship day as we can see in Judaism. We worship our God any day depending on the land you find us. Some do there's on Saturday and on Thursdays per week others Sunday and any other day.

We don't view our worship on weekends as more important than the one on week days. They are all worship.

Remember my point: I don't think we should join in any festival that has pagan origin and still maintains that significance till date.

First you need to ask yourself why Jesus had to die.
Why was it impossible for man to be saved without Christ dieing ?

If the sabbath day does not matter how come we will still observe it in Heaven?

Isaiah 66:23.
And it shall come
to pass, that from
one new moon to
another, and from
one sabbath to
another, shall all
flesh come to
worship before me,
saith the LORD.

Matthew 5:17
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the
prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Formerly when you did not know God, you were enslaved to beings that by nature are not gods at all. 9 But now that you have come to know God (or rather to be known by God), how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless basic forces? Do you want to be enslaved to them all over again? 10 You are observing religious DAYS and MONTHS and SEASONS and YEARS. 11 I fear for you that my work for you may have been in vain.12 I beg you, brothers and sisters, become like me, because I have become like you. You have done me no wrong!

My reason for citing Galatians 4:8-12 is the point raised here by PAUL that the JEWS still observe religious DAYS, MONTH, SEASONS and YEARS.

The case is always made all these THINGS are PAGAN ORIGIN and ENCYCLOPEDIAS are cited when we know these things were seen in the RELIGION of the JEWS as WELL.

To Oga Muttleylaff, thanks for the mention and the prayers as well. We all continue to maintain the happiness despite the challenges we face day in day out.

Are you saying that in heaven, there will be Saturday in God's heavenly calendar? And that the calendar will cater for about 11 sabbatical systems? I don't think so. The statement is figurative of constant worship of God even in His new system of things.

Matthew 5:17
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the

Of course, Jesus course on Earth was to fulfill the law. After his death the law had been fulfilled. If the law is not out of the way now, we would wonder if Jesus would be coming to fulfill it a second time.

Romans 10:4 says that Christ is the end of the law. What do you understand by that?

Yes
The sabbath was instituted by God before the fall of Man. it Was
God who gave us our 7days a week calendar so Saturday will exist.

Genesis 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

You will agree that the 7thday in this verse is not figurative.

How can fulfill mean to abolish?
Will that not make Jesus a liar. because that same Jesus said he has not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.

What is the sense in saying I have not come to abolish the law but to abolish it.
It means that Christ
