We didn't pay for VAT when we bought airtime. They gave you airtime worth the amount you paid. So they will take their VAT through call charges. There's no double taxation anything
why not take it once ? Evey time you make call they take their VAT and you say it's not double taxation? Well it's not double but multiple taxation cos they get to take it multiple times over and over again.

I was wondering.... This is double taxation. For crying out loud, we have paid for VAT when we buy airtime or data. So why is FG taxing us again on calls and data? We didnt sign for this. angry

Same thing I dey think here, is FG/Service providers saying we haven't been paying tax on purchase of recharge vouchers in the past?
Why all this nonsense charges again

It is 13% In the abroad we all run to, and where we (rightfully) point our leaders to take a clue from.

We are charged minimum 19% on our income, and 13% flat rate on all commodities we purchase, even pop-corn. Isn't that multiple taxation?

But we don't complain, never! Especially if you're from a country like Nigeria, because:

1. We don't pay school fees for our kids, and even for before and after school day care, and our kids eat three square meals at the day care and drink class of milk everyday;

2. We don't pay to see a doctor for consultation, neither do we pay for treatment at the hospital. Just walk in with your health card, and you're treated free of charge. It is called "socialise health healthcare system". We are not like the Americans that pays for healthcare from their wallet, na na na grin

All these comes from the tax we pay...everybody contributes to the common purse, and it is judiciously used. Unlike where I come from, where it is looted by a few.

Same applies for SMS. I was charged #4.10 for one page this morning. l was like again? The minimum wage to workers has raised more aggressive scheme to impoverish Nigerians. But, no complain - we rejected a man with a human feeling for what we have now as the Lord at Aso rock.

This isn't true. At source (Network provider's), vouchers are less than the amount paid by consumers, price ranges from #92-#95, then we have different classes of sellers (dealers to retailers), they add markup and ultimately sell for the face value or even more than sometimes or some locations.
On old vouchers, when service providers still print directly themselves, it always has vat inclusive printed on the card (you can get any old voucher of MTN 750, 1500 etc to verify this)

The recent paasaage of the finance bill had now been a law and these have also made call rate or tarrif to increase as 7.5% tax is now imposed on every single call being made

One Nigeria.

Hello OP the headline should read all network providers now charges 7.5VAT as this also applies to Airtel and Glo

7.5 %VAT grin grin
[/quotse]
I did d calculation. It is actually 2.5%. Telco service providers have been remitting 5% VAT on airtime sales to FG right from time. so they they have to adjust the tariff rate to accommodate the 2.5% increment in VAT. I think this should come as a shock to the consumer. Even manufacturers of tangible commodities that are VATABLE will either increase price, reduce quality or quantity to transfer the increament in VAT to d consumers.

N.B: I am not in anyway supporting the government on this, as there are other ways of increasing revenue base, without inflicting more hardship to d pupulace.
