Besides, even if you can afford to build houses in Lagos does not mean you should do so. I know someone who spent 65 million to build a duplex in Ajah (land inclusive) and the highest rent he can get from the house is 2.5 million (27 years) to make his money back. With such poor returns, one should think twice before tying up money in the name of real estate, especially given the nature of Nigeria where they may tell you to go back to your grandfather's village in future.

Bottom line, it is pride that makes many Nigerians believe they must live in their own house. As big as MTN is, they rent, they don't buy their offices.
