The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Mathew Kukah, on Tuesday, in Kaduna, expressed displeasure with the alleged poor management of Nigeria.

The Bishop stated this in his homily at the Good Shepherd Major Seminary, Kaukau, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State before the burial of the seminarian killed by kidnappers in the state.

He lamented that citizens of some countries were willing to risk their lives for their nations but such is not the case in Nigeria.

He alleged that office holders were loyal to their positions and not the country.

He said, “Nigeria is at a point where we must call for a verdict. There must be something that a man, nay, a nation should be ready to die for.

“Sadly, or even tragically, today, Nigeria, does not possess that set of goals or values for which any sane citizen is prepared to die for her.

“Perhaps, I should correct myself and say that the average officeholder is ready to die to protect his office but not for the nation that has given him or her that office.”

He decried that consistent efforts to build Nigeria have failed, alleging that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), remained the only president in the history of the country that had run the “most nepotistic and narcissistic government in known history.”

“The Yorubas say that if it takes you 25 years to practice madness, how much time would you have to put it into real life? We have practiced madness for too long.

“Our attempt to build a nation has become like the agony of Sisyphus who angered the gods and had to endure the frustration of rolling a stone up the mountain. Each time he got near the top, the gods would tip the stone back and he would go back to start all over again. What has befallen our nation?”

Why will any sane person die for a country where foreign terrorists and their cattle have greater rights than you as a citizen ?

Unfortunately for "them" Kukah is not a politically exposed person otherwise, they would have given him a bad name to hang him.

Absolutely sir!

The mentality of most Nigerians gives the leader's the confidence to steal with pleasure. If this administration is serious about fighting corruption/terrorism, Buhari should start with Boko Haram. How on earth will a govt fighting corruption/terrorism be paying ransom to terrorists and releasing same terrorists into the society in the name of repentance and rehabilitation.

Na today! It’s quite a pity that Father Kukah is just realizing this precious reality. Something our fathers have bequeathed on us and we to our children.

The common man has no inheritance in the geographical expression called Nigeria. What exactly can we say we’ve benefited from this country. Is it jobs? Is it security? Is it health insurance? I know some optimist would tell me peace.

Naija is not worth dying for, those who died for Naija died in vain.

Nigerian citizens are their own worst enemies, not the government. Zero unity or desire to be freed from their self inflicted bondage, since a majority are yet to realise that they are actually in hell literally undecided

Who does not know that by now?

I guess the only set of people who don't know that Nigeria isn't worth dying for are the soldiers (new recruits)

I like Bishop Kukah because he always says things the way they are no matter whose ox is gored

This man is the spiritual father of Wailing Wailers in Nigeria. If not a traitor, who will say his father's land is not worth sacrificing for, except a bastard without father. See the image below of this man with the politicians that destroyed Nigeria in those 16 years of corruption.
This man will be the first to seek asylum in pope Francis house, should Nigerian Army down tools, that they won't fight Boko boys because of Mr Kukah advice.
