Most of the new wears in Nigerian "boutiques" (road side shops) are fake products made with useless and weak fabrics.

I will pick up a good and clean Okrika bag, belt, or sandals any day any time. By the time you get tired of changing belt or Jumia fake audio sandals every 2-3 months, and then you see prices like N92,000 for an authentic brand new laptop bag at ICM, Ikeja, nobody will tell you to use your head.

I no go do pass myself in this life.

I haven't seen a Nigeria made cloths, all I've been seeing and buying are foreign cloths.

Not that I don't value our home made cloths but foreign cloth is the order of the day, foreign cloths is in every market than our home made clothes.

I really don't know, but I buy from one of those boutiques along Yaba ojuelegba road. I can't say if it's brand new or foreign used, but it's far more expensive than "bend down select" at yaba and doesn't have that okirika smell

most of those clothes aren't new, but of high quality..
..but those boys @ yaba axis ain't serious at all.. d last time I asked for a sandal at main yaba, d guy said N9500.. for what I know isn't more than N2k

After touring round & round, I just vex come buy for my side smiley

Ladies first!!!
Growing up with the girls make you realize that it's OKIRIKA OR NOTHING.

It still doesn't change how much I hate the weak and smelly stuffs.
My sister learnt to sew first.
Then she bought some Okira blouses at Yaba market. Took them home, loosened the parts. traced out the design on paper, then used the pattern to cut new material. She then sewed it back to the original design but as a new cloth. Wore one new blouse to the office everyday.

Read the comments and you will see why Nigeria is the way it is. Off topic contributions everywhere! Yes it destroying our clothing industries , however it is providing a solution to a poor nation. To the extent people who can afford new clothes still buy Okrika and you will never know. Why spend money
on one shirt, when you can get 3 good ones. grin

The market for pre-loved items is a multi-million dollar industry and has continued to grow exponentially though I'm not exactly certain on the statistics.

Do you think it has had a negative impact on the growth of clothing production in the Nigerian industry? Let’s discuss....⠀

I prefer a foreign second hand.

Not only is it stronger and durable.
It gives you that vintage look

U need to Change ur mentality,, used can never be like new,, why would a young abled man be wearing used clothes ,, compare a used t shirt to a new one,,,, imagine me wearing a used T-shirt to church or important occasions ,, how will people rate me,,, bros continue with ur used clothes life style

As much as many folks here prefer second hand clothes, I think made in Nigerian clothes should be promoted because the domino effect here is ,it will increase our own self made products and also drive the quality upwards if there is competition for good materials.
It makes more economic sense to buy Nigerian product. .
We need to really and sincerely start growing our own.
Everytime promote Nigeria made promote Nigeria that. Una no dey tire. Border has been closed since last year wetin b d effect. Prices of local products with low quality selling at a high price(exactly the price of foreign products.insome cases local price is even higher), with supposed closure of the border, economy supposed don improve but nothing as changed. We still dey were we dey....Stop diz 'patronise Nigeria made product' campaign coz u won't see d impact in our economy. Group of persons go jst dey one side dey embezzle d proceeds.

If you see how scavengers scout for second hands clothes or handle them abroad, you'd NEVER in your life wear them. Tueh!

You forgot some of them are factory rejects that has never been worn by anyone.

Everyone wants something good, something perfect or at least near perfect, at an affordable price, do you now blame folks for going for good grade ok clothes when that same standard of clothing will go for an outrageously high cost? Before you say cut your clothes according..... let’s analyze the Nigerian made fabrics or clothes, how affordable are they?
How durable are they?
How well made are they?
You see most Nigerians value the money you get now than putting up a great brand that would be able to compete in the fashion industry...... lemme not talk too much

Even if I can only afford one new quality cloth for a year, I'm contented. I'll be washing and ironing it and wearing it to every occasion than to fill my bag with rags. Second hand clothes and shoes can be very tempting, 90% of ladies that buy it can afford new clothes, they're expensive too, its just the temptation they can't resist

Not all OK clothes are used. Not all are cheap or of low quality.

Some of these boutiques you see around, they sell first grade OKs. They dry clean them and put inside transparent nylon. Same way they sew shirts in bulk (from Aba), put them foreign tags and sell too.

I can’t say I prefer any over the other, depends on what I am buying.

Nigerian new clothes are mostly traditional and don't hv jeans, hoodies and sweat shirts so I will go with the American even if second handed. I can't wear adire all day long.
