Share your experience with us if you have ever been fired. It would be better if we can share:

1. Why we were fired?
2. How did the firing process happen?
3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?

So, I’ll start:

Sometimes last year, I got an unbelievable offer (well above #750k) at a remote company. I bought a PC, subscribed for large data and set-up a workspace. On Monday which was resumption day, I turned on my PC, logged in and started the online meeting… everything went well for the first day and I got introduced to my colleagues. My friend and I actually got employed for same position, so we usually chatted while working. To be onboarded, we had to install a productivity monitoring tool on our PCs, we were told everything we did on the PC would be captured if the tool was turned ON but I really don’t know why I cared less.

On Wednesday same week, we had a short and simple test, during the test, I asked my friend for an answer as I wasn’t so sure, he responded and that was it.

On Thursday, I had a quick one-on-one call with my manager, I was fired. Apparently, I wasn’t supposed to ask for assistance while taking the test. I apologized but the answer was a straight NO (you sabi how oyinbo people strict). So in other words, I was sacked because I cheated ☹.

Well, they paid me for the few days I worked

I have experienced other sad situations, but this has to be the worst. I was so depressed, the following Sunday, I went to Church and it was while Pastor asked us to greet our neighbor, I remembered I didn’t brush… LMAO.

Now, I got something with abit lesser pay but still very chilled grin

I got a remote too but the guy told me to find a hub they can pay for.

I told him my house was comfortable.

That was how I lost it.. 28k pounds

My guy easy...she's obviously a tech person and techies (devs, products,QAs,enterprise architects etc) earn that much and higher.

Do cyber security guys and ethical hackers earn up to that amount?

Yeah I use wework. Always get regret mails for all my applications. I've seen jobs for 18$ per hour job but that doesn't translate to 80k a month.
Even crossover for work pay 30k dollars a year for software support engineer position.

80k CAD a month is over stretching it.

Did you get crossover?

I haven't been able to pass the ccat

Why we were fired?
I joined this company last year, few days after finishing my NYSC, they have the highest number of software developers in Africa and I was loving life, the salary is great with breakfast and lunch

They keep on employing so many software engineer with time the engineer become more than the available job, I saw it coming but I don't know what the board was thinking

2. How did the firing process happen?
We have a global (online) meeting which people are asked not to miss, I was not even listening very well to what they are saying, the president said there are more developer than engagement to they have to let some people go, a mail was sent to all impacted people and I discovered what has just happened

Almost 400 people has been fired across Africa

3. Aftermath of being fired… how did you feel, have you recovered, did you get something better?

The company is actually a great one, they brought in pychologist to speak with us, bring in different recruiter, and other stuff, most importantly the payoff was reasonable that I can afford a Mac laptop of almost half-a-million

Luckily for me I got another reasonable job in less than 3 weeks of been retrenched

I always laugh when people complain there is no job in Nigeria, less than 5 month after leaving my previous company I have turned down almost 4 other offers some even paying than my current one

I so much saw the retrenchment coming that I once created a similar thread as this https://www.nairaland.com/5352267/why-how-loose-last-job
abeg which ICT course can a novice go for to get this kind of job?

I get it sha #750k is too big yeah? Hence I used the word "unbelievable" Remember I said well over #750k... just chill

there are lots of jobs like that

Please what's the dumbest way for dummies to earn a legitimate income online and/remotely?
I would really appreciate it, if you can explain it in such a way that 5-year-old me will understand.

I really do not know the band for cyber securoty and ethical hackers but I am sure they'll net good wages.

The reason is, these fields are usually for the big firms, banks and multinationals

Our education system don do us something. They send out youth that no longer believe in themselves.
I have long given up on trying to bail people out of the mindset of poverty. A neighbour of mine is earning 5000 euros a month as a python programmer and someone is telling me that no foreign company can pay 750K. What is 750K? $2000 wey some company top wigs use for lunch.

remove pwc from this list, pwc don't pay that high. salaries there start at about 140k, it's just that it comes with other perks like travel opportunities and stuff. but in terms of pay, rule them out. people just go there for the prestige it brings to your CV

So everyone who is paid a salary should quit abi?

If we all go into business, who will fly the planes, control public electricity, produce or regulate money, how will the network providers give you network, the news media will shut down, Buhari will have to drive himself, cook for himself, the police will be absent and the military will tell you OYO etc

Don't deceive yourself, some people are meant to earn money by salary while others are meant to be enterprising.
well Life is a choice, you either work for your dreams (if its big enough) or you work for your boss to achieve his dreams all the rest of your life because your dreams are too pedestrian and basic; clothes, house, food, car etc

The topic says "if you have ever been fired, share your experience "
But most of you have turned it to arguing people's earnings and salaries, most which is lies from the pit of hell just to intimidate others that probably earn far less.
To those who shared their sacked experiences, thank you. And to those who kept arguing about earning, just place your right hand on your head and say this " my father my father, I have sinned against you and against common sense, please deliver me from any spirit of stupidity and ignorance. Amen.
Oh lest I forget, I know one Mallam in Aso Rock who earns multi million naira weekly for suffering multi millions of people.
Finally, I don't need to introduce myself, even Dangote no see my back
