The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has expressed concern over the coronavirus outbreak.

The cases of the global pandemic in the country have risen to 46 in Nigeria.

The body said it may order its members and those of affiliates to stay at home from Friday if the well-being of tanker drivers, marketers, suppliers among others was not guaranteed.

This was contained in a statement Tuesday night by National President, Williams Eniredonana Akporeha and General Secretary, Afolabi Olawale.

NUPENG observed that its members were rendering critical services to the nation on a daily basis in these critical times.

It noted that the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD), Petrol Station Workers (PSW), Petroleum Depots Workers, Independent Marketers Employees, Oil and Gas Suppliers (OGS), Surface Tankers Kerosene Peddlers (SUKATEP), Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers, (LPGAR) and others were becoming highly vulnerable to coronavirus.

“NUPENG is seriously monitoring the unfolding situation while also putting into account the safety and welfare of these vulnerable and integral segments of our membership, which are of paramount concern to us”, it read.

“In the light of the above, the Union may be forced to direct these workers to stay at home with effect from 00:00hrs on Friday 27th March 2020, this is a very difficult decision but necessary and important with respect to the safety of these set of workers.”

Urging members to remain good ambassadors, law-abiding and disciplined, NUPENG prayed that health experts will find a lasting solution to coronavirus.

It urged stakeholders in the downstream sector of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry to obey health and safety measures by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) by maintaining social distancing and an excellent personal hygiene.

Omo if fuel scarcity comes, the stay at home policy would be defeated because people would begin to troop the street in search of fuel.. they shouldn't try it oo.. its very dangerous at this time.

When you try saving Nigerians from drowning, they'll turn back & bark so hard @ you, that you'll be confused on what to do next.

We are talking about lives here [some thought its a joke], majority are celebrating havoc caused by the epidemic among the elites forgetting that them "the poor masses are going to take a bite of the poisoned cake" where they are going to suffer grievious consequences of our "Crippled Health Care System".

The Epidemic will soon descend on the Commoners and that is where doom spells. If you are wise, you'll plan ahead & take cover before the storm hit your spot & the only way that can be achieved is by joining our hands firmly with our Leaders so as to curb the spread of the virus.

If you don't agree with me, liken the epidemic to a Wild Wind Storm (WWS) that that caught a large group of communities unaware. The Storm came from the North West where the Elites resides, community bells rang calling the attention of the community to the Violent Storm, but the Community People rejected the call saying the gods are fighting on behalf of them the poor people (the gods must be crazy). The Storm rose in strength from the West down to the East destroying everything destroyable in its path, the poor community people started to realise that the Storm is not staying put in the elites zone but will also feast on them, the commoners.

Now we have a problem, our elites are the ones living in brick houses where they take cover during the Storm making casualitiea minimal. We, the poor Community People are living in tents, Oh! The Storm is going to expose us,
destroy our tents, carry our children away & displace families, what a crazy time to live. Calls were then made by by our Communities Leaders instructing us that the only way we can defy the strength of the wind is by forming a large Circle, where we place our children & valuables in the middle of the Circle. When the Storm arrives, it will shook us but we will never fall with our hands firmly held together in a single Circle. But those who decides to take cover seperately, they shall be miamed & displaced by the Storm.

CONCLUSION:
Let's all forget about what our Leaders did wrong and cooperate with them [Leaders] in this trying times, that way, we will all remain smiling.

Remember:
(i) When spiderweb unites, it can tie up a lion.
(ii) A stick of palm broom can be broken with ease, but a bunch of it [palm broom] can't be broken.

Shalom!

This is so annoying...

This government is so useless....... I say this because they had enough time to shut down the Airports and every other borders we have, but they chose to leave it open, because of greed and personal interest.

Now they are the first to be hit.

God will definitely shorten these days as Jesus said in the bible, for the sake of the elect.

Dear God, please let this plague pass away as quickly as it had come for the sake of your own in Jesus name we pray. Amen

Let me drop the lyrics of Paul Simon and Garfunkel's Song "Sounds of Silence" It's so related to this Corona ish. Seems they were ahead of their time and they saw this happening....

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
No one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming

And the sign said, "The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence"

There's absolutely no need of them joining the seat at home order since the job of the tanker drivers do not include carrying passengers but fuel.
