Hi all please at AF ikoyi centre, what is used for writing-EE?
Is it pen or pencil or your choice?
Do they give extra paper where you can jot some points to remember?

Pen, As many extra jotting paper as you need.

Good enough. They usually do a sound check and ask all candidates if it's clear enough.

Thank.
Hmmm there may be enough cancelling ohh and may make the work look untidy.
Or do the examiners over look the cancellations?

Yea...but you'll get better with practice. It's best to form your ideas and think of examples before writing. Generally speaking, a tidy output might help you make the case for organization points.

Time literally disappears so begin with part 2 and make sure you have the standard letter formalities on check (address, title, introduction and closing)

Plan 5 - 10 minutes for ideation (practice broadly across common themes (education, language, travel, culture, etc)

Prepare common advantages and disadvantages (and examples) before hand.

Target only 30 minutes for part 2. If you can save time, even better.

Part 1 is where you need your creative imagination.

Hello everyone

New to the trend. Started French classes at Alliance Francais last month, but had to stop because the institute closed down to prevent transmission of COVID-19.

Thankfully I enrolled for an online class. I actually started as a beginner because I did A1/A2 about 10 years ago, so you can say I am very rusty.

I practice with Duolingo as well

I hope to write TEF in September by God’s grace. Have downloaded all of materials on the thread. Looking forward to tap from the wealth of knowledge of all seniors in the house

IEF used to be total physical class but they are now thinking of online classes since last week due to the virus.

Please can you help me out with materials and tips to learn French and also pass the TEF. I’m new here, don’t know how to send a pm. Can I forward my email instead?.

Thanks. I didn't learn French because of TEF. I love the language and have been learning since 2011. TEF was just a bonus.
I did over 3 weeks of very intensive prep before the exam.

Hello friends.
Please o how do I begin to learn French. I am a total beginner. I will appreciate a honest guide on how to begin so that I can write the TEF exam.
Please as a complete beginner how long is it likely going to take me to study before I can get a decent result ?
I am in Abuja, I will be glad if anyone can suggest a good study centre..
Thanks.

I'm also a total beginner too. But am practicing seriously at home with duolingo, memrise and rocket french. But I loveeeee rocket french most, and with the rate I'm learning, by the end of this lockdown I should be prepared to take the A1 exams.
I'm looking at 6 months preparation, will attend the physical class when the lockdown is over. Wish you all the best.

P.S: for other good french apps, check out speaky app (to boast your speaking ability) and French coffee break (to boast your listening ability)

Thanks for your response. I really appreciate it.
My challenge is being a total novice with the language, self training will no doubt be really challenging. Notwithstanding, I will still do my best while I wait for the lockdown to be over so that I can look for a professional teacher.

Dulles25:

I am a beginner too, in my third week of personal study.

I do at least 3 hours a day learning the grammar structure, and vocabularies.
I find "Learn French with Alexa" to be good, her technique of teaching helps me understand the language rules.
I also use memrise.com, and duolingo.

With the grammar and vocabularies, I now try to structure sentences. Hopefully soon I can do a paragraph.

I listen to songs while looking at the lyrics to identify the few words I know, and also look at Twitter updates in French.

Where I feel I need an explanation, I reach out to my French speaking friend to guide.

I will enroll for classes at Alliance français when everything goes back to normal hopefully.
You can start with personal study.

Yes, having a teacher and a class of few individuals seem to be the better option.
"You speak to learn, you don't learn to speak" seems to be the thing with learning a foreign language. So daily practice with someone who speaks French will be good.

However, the challenge at the moment is this covid-19.

I'm also waiting to get a physical class. If you know any French learning whatsapp group, kindly PM me so I can join.

Thank God the thread is back and would surely be better.
If you are in Ibadan and planning to write TEF. I have a plan for us and hope it works.
I learnt of conversation class in lagos AF, contacted Ibadan AF and unfortunately they don't have any class close to that. So i was thinking we could come up with a conversation club. We can meet like twice a month and have basic conversation towards passing TEF speaking.

We can also get to invite tutors to our speaking club once a while at a token by members.

Note: I am still at level A0 in french too o. Just moving to level A1. So not like i am an expert.

If you are interested in this or know of anyone in ibadan that would be interested. Please PM me. Thank you

That is good move.you can also do online classes to boost your level.yoi can contact me for that we do tutorial for both DELF and TEF online by following the syllabus.

Bonsoir Tout le monde,
Good initiative for those who created this forum. I am not really new to French; I did a six month crash program on it about 15 years ago and became quite good in reading and communicating in French but have become very rusty. Can I learn and pass the TEF exam by using online resources alone or it is advisable I attend classes in Alliance Francaise or IEF?
Likewise, for those who may have written the exam, which online resources would you proffer to a learner like me?
I know my Professeur de Francaise then used to advice us to communicate within ourselves so I won't mind having study partners in Lagos who we can learn and build up our French vocabularies together.

Hi guys, I am at absolute beginner level french. Been using memrise, rocket french and pimsleur to teach myself since I can't attend classes right now and I must say that they have been really helpful as I can understand simple conversations, speak, read and write a little. As of now, I am trying to pay for rocket french subscription but I can't as Nigeria is not listed there, has anyone encountered this? How did you resolve it?

Secondly, I have been eyeing learn french with Alexa's paid course. It is claimed that the course can take one from A0 to C2. Has anyone explored or knows someone who has explored this route?

Please any guidance will be seriously appreciated. Thank you.

Just candid advice and nothing more. It's up to you to take it or leave it. There are two recognized way of learning French to pass TEF: Go to an established physical class that have results in what you're looking for or alternatively go to an online school with the same results. There are two secrets that I was told by my online tutor that passing French requires two things: Knowing French thoroughly and understanding TEF system. You must get the two to pass TEF and obtain the required results. As per online resources, if you are talking about apps, etc I don't think that can take you beyond A2 and then your speaking may suffer.
