Do not warn your friends again. Because the more you do the more you expose your self

That is one of the dangerous aspect of Accountant/Auditor

There is nothing like facing your business FYB. It is your business. You are not there to make friends but to make the difference.

You are there to protect the interest of all the stakeholders in the business. Secure you privacy.

Africa Magic Movies are not just for fun. Some of their movies are well empirically scripted.

Exactly, An accountant is not expected to Famz anybody in the organisation ... You must keep a firm and Professional look ... Straight face because everybody is trying to penetrate you to engage in fraud atleast to help them cover it up since you will know ....

No paddy in the Jungle ooo .... Money and Death work hand in Hand cheesy

Why warning them .... Just file your report and let the MD warn..... If they challenge you , stand to them and let them realise you are just doing your job .... if you see that the MD is incapable of cleaning the mess and as a professional you are not expected to compromise Fundamental Principles of the Profession :

Resign and Swerve !

If you think that exposing them might expose your life to danger, you should consider leaving the place and tipping off the owner anonymously. These guys are wicked and operates like a cult. They can do anything when they realize that their source of illicit funds is being threatened. The only thing that can stop them is if they run the company aground, the owner gets rid of them, or they kill the owner of the company.
That is why many Nigerians are scared to establish business at home sometimes.
Too many wicked and short sighted people.

im waiting for the continuation of the concluding part and im sure others too are waiting, dont mind anybody that says is a story bro, even if its a story im enjoying it
TheTrueSeeker2:
Reminds me of my experience as an Industrial Training (I T) Student 300 L second semester Engineering student back then in an oil company in Bayelsa state.

After the HR processing, (medical, swimming test etc) for new intakes i was posted to Community Relations Department of the company and met my supervisor and HOD.

Two weeks into my job, my supervisor had to go on a compulsory 2 weeks leave and I was recommended for his temporary replacement given my exemplary leadership disposition. On my first day as the new supervisor in charge of ensuring all the speedboats to and fro the Rig are fueled and issued safety gadgets, I discovered a massive undercover deal between my supervisor, the company's boat drivers and the Beach Master running into several hundreds of thousands if not millions daily.

Continued...
Here's a BRIEF detail of the deal.
Depending on the number of staff scheduled for rig trip for that day, each speedboat carrying the required number of staff to and fro the rig is officially entitled to and given a daily 400 litre of fuel. So Admin office sends their list of staff going on Rig for that day, Community Affairs Supervisor adds extra 'ghost' names and beach master adds his own names thereby increasing number of supposed staff and speedboat going to rig for the day. For instance, say only 90 staff members including security personnel are really going on Rig for that particular day requiring only about 9 speedboats (10 on each boat) but on Supervisor and beach master's list you'll see 150 with several extra security boats, that means more boats would be added for the trip to be issued with 400 litres of fuel for that day. Meanwhile, fuel will be issued to all the boats including the extra 'ghost' ones that will collect fuel without going on any trip. The extra stolen fuel would be sold to black market fuel dealers right there at the jetty and all parties collects their shares.

This is just one aspect of the fuel deal. The safety (PPE) deal is another day's story cos the same contractor that supply's the PPE to the company had his boys around to pick and re-supply when fresh orders are made.

So on my first day in charge, I'd received the daily manifest from the Admin Office and my team (my official driver and security) headed for the jetty. I met the beach master (whom by this time had been briefed about me as the new temporary supervisor).

I got to work and presented the manifest for the day and we calculated how many boats would be scheduled for the trip including their PPE's for that day. The boat drivers and their union excos were all in the beach master's office with me at the jetty and I went ahead to brief them on the day's work. I told them we would have only 9 boats for that day and that the rest should leave and return the next day cos I noticed there were several excited boat drivers at the jetty waiting to be fueled.

As soon as I mentioned only 9 boats, I noticed increased side-comments and murmuring. Then one of the boat drivers asked the beach master in a very deep thugish voice "Una neva tell am watin dey?"

I looked at the beach master and he looked away from me as if saying please i don't want trouble.

The boat drivers then excused themselves from the room and asked to speak with the beach master alone outside. After their deliberation outside, they all came in and agreed to let me into the deal requesting my co-operation and participation in sharing the proceeds. They brought out another list and by the time they were done with their juicy explanation and calculation, I was seeing a share they called mine somewhere around N480,000 just for the fuel side for that day. This was sometime in 2002.

I didn't have to think twice about compromising or giving in to this plan. I KNEW I WILL NEVER BE A PART OF THIS FROM THE ONSET. All the while they were speaking and thinking they'd convinced me, what was going on in my mind was how to get out of this without getting strangulated by these desperate cabal. After their spokesman stopped talking for awhile and asked if I was in? I took a very deep breath and asked if they could let me sleep over it and give them an answer by the next morning. At first some wanted to protest insisting that I didn't have any choice and wondering why they were even giving me an opportunity to decide but somehow, they agreed to my plea and we also agreed to schedule only the required boats (9) no extra for that day pending my decision by the next day.

Next day ....

I can further see you're just a spoilt kid who don't understand the meaning of someone footing the bills.

He who alleges has the burden of proof. You accused me of stealing the story from someone else' site and i'm patiently waiting for your proof and ready to be shamed by you.

You're yet to still show any proof and rather than hide your face in shame and perhaps tender an apology, you still want money for displaying your stupidity and cyber rascalty.

Go ahead and pay for your non existence subscription and by the time you show proof, I'll make refund for all your inconvienences. Is that too difficulty for you to understand?

Not possible! These evils are been perpetrated by branch Managers not at the Head Office where I am.
Suggest for an independent auditor to audit the finance records of the company.
Then, give these auditors every information..
But remember, you are the accountant.
Make sure your own books are clean.
If not, even their own leakages might get traced back to your own carelessness and non-observance.

Next day ....
So by the next day when I got to the jetty, i asked to speak with only the beach master and the Boat Drivers Union Excos while the rest should stay by their boats. Somehow, they'd sensed a NO DEAL.

So I started with a strong appeal to these old men while they listened expressionlessly.

Sirs, I hope you all know I am here in this company as a student on Industrial Training and not a full staff?
Well in case you didn't know, I have just told you.

This means that, I am still a young man compared to all of you, in fact I am still a student that is just starting life and I will not want to start my career or anything close to it on a very wrong path. Making money is good but making quick money the wrong way or through stealing from others is not and has never been my idea in life and I do not wish to start here.

Please Sir, I will appeal to you to try and understand with me, I will not want to join in this deal and I will also not want this deal to go on while i am in charge here for these few days.

In the next few days, Oga Sam (my Supervisor) will resume and you all will be free to continue your deal and I promise never to say a word about this to anyone or report you to the PARTY CHIEF (Name for the White French guys at the Management team) if you agree to what I am telling you now.

So if you agree and convince your guys outside, trust me, no one else will hear about this, at least not from me moving forward.

As though that was what they were expecting, no one ever said a word in protest but they all thanked me for choosing to remain straight and true to my ideals. They encouraged me to remain steadfast to my upbringing.

They agreed to abide by my request for the rest of the period and no deal.

By the time the two weeks was over and my supervisor resumed, a management (The PARTY CHIEF, all the Directors, HOD's and Supervisors) meeting was called and I was invited to the meeting. They were to review the activities of every departments and when they got to my department, the issue of a certain quantity of fuel for boat drivers that usually does not get to the middle of the month before another purchase would have to be made, for the first time, got to the end of the month with certain quantity still remaining. They asked for explanation and I was asked by my HOD to respond.

I didn't expose my findings but realized after the meeting that the party chief and the top management team knew something was going on in the jetty but according to them, prior to this time, whenever they tried to investigate, the boat drivers union would embark on strike actions just to frustrate the move but for the first time someone was able to tame them. i was commended even though they knew I wasn't speaking out or exposing anyone because I didn't want to get into trouble and they didn't push further and didn't fire anyone.

My Salary was increased before I left the company after about 4 months (I had to go to Beta Glass Company Ughelli near Warri) to complete my Industrial Attachment and have my log book signed.

Few years later, activities of militants and militancy in the Niger Delta chased the French company out of Bayelsa State and indeed the Niger Delta.

Very interesting.Big up brother .I hope you are into bigger things now.God bless you
