Simply put, God is a merciful God. Unfortunately ( i say so because, i wish it wasn't so ) the guy is right. But the thing you should know is, no sin, goes unpunished. That is, even after you must have asked for forgiveness, you still would pay for that sin. So dont make it seem as though the person goes scot free, after repentance. True repentance comes from the heart. God can not be fooled like us ordinary people, so claiming to have repented and given your life to Christ is not the same as actually doing it. That being said, if you are genuinely remorseful and repent from the very bottom of your heart then you can be forgiven. St.Paul was a gov't operative who hunted down and killed God's own followers and preachers but he got saved and died as a saint so I believe no one is beyond saving. But if you intentionally sin with the hopes that repentance is so easy then you only fool yourself, not God.
