Rumours are in the air that the next flagship chipset from Qualcomm - SD875 - will cost $130 for the chip alone, the 'all-in-one set' (chipset for those confused) which includes the X60 modems, antennas and other added components that makes it a SoC will cost $250 or more, which is about 50% increase from the SD865 which costs $150-$160.

One of Korea's leakster Kuma took to Twitter to share this disturbing rumour. He also stated that Xiaomi is in a fierce debate on how much the chip should cost.

The price for the 'all-in-one' (chipset if you must) is not the final price. There are talks of Qualcomm setting the existing price points for the 875 with prices of other components that'll be added or integrated with the SoC like camera lens to bring the price lower, if this is true or not we do not know but given Qualcomm history, it's highly unlikely they're doing it to cushion the effects it'll have on OEMs.

Seeing Xiaomi mentioned goes to show that their next flagship device will sport the 875 chipset and shows they're trying to make their next flagship affordable for the masses.
Should the rumours be true, Xiaomi Mi flagship series might no longer be affordable.

This why samsung needs to work hard with AMD to break the monopoly of SD, they show their hand this year by doubling the price of chip which also leads to increase in price of phone. right now they want to double the price again which will make it about 100% increase in two years.

Qualcomm can only do this for a dedicated amount of time. Given the recent innovations rolled out by Mediatek, they are most likely going to be haunted by their excessive costs

I couldn't agree more with you. Qualcomm said the price increase was due to the 5G modem and now it seems they're not going to integrate it with this SoC.
Even the 765 with an integrated modem costs $40 for the SoC.

Snapdragon is abusing their monopoly in the market,Google announced they are making a chipset,even Samsung
I just hope they produce strong chipset which would be strong competetors in the market.

Well, same scenario played out before Xiaomi debuted MTK helio G90T (everyone knows how powerful the chipset is)

one of the disadvantages would be the chipset reputation an average tech literate would pick a Snapdragon chipset over that of the mediatek also the source issue for developers
Is Snapdragon trying to make phone prices increase or what?, I won't be surprised seeing Samsung high end phone with the chip costing 2k dollars given they haven't produced their chips
Samsung should have put a lot of work into exynos but they believe they preferred the 3rd position they had, even with Kirin as a strong competitor before the ban they didn't sit up.

It's the source code wahala and it not being dev-friendly that makes the 765 a better choice.
If mediatek complied with GNU, they'll be able to compete with Qualcomm as they have the resources to do so.

Also another phone with the D1000+ was out months ago, IQOO Z1. Damn cheap and it's brother Neo3 5G is the cheapest 865-powered device out there. I call both 'poor man redmagic 5G'.

i almost ordered for it on aliexpress.

however iqoo is still part of oppo from vivo segments so it still seem luke only oppo haa used them.
