bro ikpeazu till date hasn't shown any foresight/desire to modernize markets in Abia.
our people are also resistant to change.
Take this instances:
1) Aba mega mall -5 years since completion it is laying fallow and that's a mall built to international standard.
2)2015, a South African group proposed modernising ariaria (electric lifts, covered roofs, fire service and the works). if the market union had accepted the firm would have made up their money from expanding the market-Ariaria trade union protested till that idea died down.
3)etche road strip mall-the builder is yet to complete construction because few people signed onto the project
4)ekumi Plaza -this modern market built by a bank which is located deep in Ariaria isn't full for 3 years now.

point is Aba people need force to accept change. Ikpeazu unfortunately lacks the will to do such (bring down or at least relocation of ariaria, new market and Shopping Centre). unfortunately again, those shops sells for over 2 million naira -In some instances -how do you destroy or relocate such?
unless he pulls off what Rocha's did with Douglas market, I don't see any change happening
The government made a mistake selling the shops instead of leasing them for a maximum of 10 years.

yet again, some of this markets like new market are witnessing failure and subsequent abandoning of buildings -definitely in the nearest future modernisation of thread in Aba would begin
market square opened up the first mall franchise in Aba this year, with the massive patronage the garner everyday I hope more of such outfits would spring up.

Except what they built is plaza, I don't see how shops inside malls can be sold, it is only practical to rent or lease them. Also, sections of it can be partitioned with glass cubicles and made smaller for traders that need smaller spaces who can't afford to rent larger shops. That is why I said the governor can do it in tranches. He can select a particular zone/area, mark it and give the occupants a specific time period to relocate to such malls already built, once that time elapses, he will demolish it and move to another section. For instance, he can build a dedicated mall for cloths/boutiques, once it is completed, he will demolish sections of the old market were cloths/boutiques are sold and selling of such will be banned anywhere else. He should make sure that such shops are not too expensive for the traders. That is why it is important to use glass to create small cubicles that would be cheaper. Since people won't be paying to run their noisy generators or other challenges they experience when maintaining independent shops, the little added money on rent wouldn't be punishing and they will leave quality lives instead of the kind of suffering they pass through at the moment.

The state government has not shown enough commitment already. The traders union at Ariaria have no right to resist such and the government shouldn't tolerate it because they are doing so from the point of selfishness. Many of them own many shops they rent to others and so would naturally be against any change that would affect them. However, it is the duty of any responsible government to do what is right for the majority of people.

People are now looking down on Aba people after seeing the sort of environment they trade in. We as Igbos have always been pace setters in innovation in Nigeria but we are now seriously lagging behind.

This video was shot about a week ago. Those here selling propaganda should understand that nobody is fooled. We are begging you guys to clean up Aba and fix the roads of this great city. Abia state can never be said to be developed until Aba becomes a great city again. If they like, they can tar all the roads in Abriba, Arochukwu or Umuahia. Without fixing Aba, Abia state is dead ad a viable place.

It is a shame what you have allowed Aba to become!

I dont get the people promoting propaganda online for the Orji clan and Ikpeazu? What is the use of the lies they are promoting?

Just fix Aba and this crown jewel of a city will promote itself. You dont need a paid army of propagandists to promote the idea of say Abuja having good roads. Why do you need that for Aba if the roads were actually good? Stop paying these people to promote an alternate reality and just fix the damn place already

Fix all the roads, change the horrific markets to malls and unleash the massive potential of the city. There is no point in propaganda.

This market is very near to Enyimba stadium. When foreigners come to Aba to play Enyimba this is the horror show they are greeted with. Yet we want people to respect us. They view us as animals

Very few cities in West Africa has the potential Aba does. Aba should be a leading African city known on a first name basis around the continent. The place should be the pride of Igbo land. With so many Igbo people in the diaspora, this should be the Lagos and Abuja of the east. Where people come to all the time be they resident in Malaysia, South Africa, Germany, Canada or Brazil

The people who have power in Abia state are destroying the place and sinking its potential. Paying for propaganda will not fix it at all or change anything

Oga, you initially sounded like a concerned Igbo passionate about the development of Aba.

Now you are gradually eating your way in like a worm to destroy this thread.

Aba today is MUCH better than it was a years ago, it's transformation won't happen overnight. There are jobs to create, bills to pay, legal issues to contend with and so on.... all you care about is FAULT FINDING. If you are looking for fault, Aba has a lot of it, same as other cities in Nigeria. But don't come and dilute the enthusiasm we have about Aba's journey to recovery.

Thank you for at acknowledging greatness of Aba. However, Aba is improving and it won't transform overnight. The infrastructural neglect was too much before now, so let's acknowledge every inch of progress made

The Aba people of nowadays are falling too much hand. These traders pay millions in various levies every month and still carry on paying with all the bad roads in the markets.

Let's take Ariaria for example; with more than 37000 shops and each shop paying a minimum of 5K per month to various agencies and touts, you are looking at more than 2.2 billion naira per year thrown into the bush, and we haven't even added all the money from the car parks. The Aba people of old would not take that rubbish. The old guards would have stopped paying and used the money to fix the internal market roads. Ariaria is like a town on it's own and the footprint of the main market is minus all the surrounding trading areas is about 1km x 700m in size. Maybe it's time to run Ariaria as it's own self funding municipality. Same goes for Ngwa Road, shopping centre and Cemetery markets

It's criminal to neglect Aba, but I praise the resilience of the people. There are 3-4 heavily subscribed industrial layouts in Aba and other industries which are sporadically spread within the city and people are still investing against all odds. An industrial belt was developing towards the PH road end of Ariaria but this was quickly killed by the poor state of that road. Aba - Owerri - PH road (Express to Express) is the main artery of Aba and yet the criminal governors hid under the cloak of federal road to neglect that road.

I am an Igbo man extremely passionate about Igbo land developing.

There are millions of igbos around the world in the diaspora who would unleash capital inside a functional Aba and create massive wealth in it if the city were fixed.

If you build solid long lasting 25km of road every year in Aba every year for the past 5 years of Ikpeazu's govt, Aba's road network would be unrivaled in Nigeria. A city of entrepreneurs needs basic infrastructure like roads to flourish, not paid propagandists online.

Nobody needs to promote anything Ikpeazu has done. Just fix Aba and it will speak for itself

bro if you have the capacity to invest in Aba, do so.
Almost every year, a new company arrives the city. For a city left redundant since its creation, it would take years to recover it-something that has started.
I believe the next governor of the state would get all the glory because most times people who build the foundation aren't appreciated.
if you invest or don't, watch this space because great things are coming to these city in the years to come

The problems with Aba in particular and Abia in general started with the first useless governor that is now parading himself about as a 'committed and caring' Senator! Some of the state and federal politicians representing the south-east are crooks that used federal or local godfather might to steal the mandates they presently hold! Politics to them first and foremost is a means to feather their nests and prance about as 'Governor', 'Senator', etc! They do not have the capacity nor the passion to put the interests of their people first, be innovative and think outside the box!

Other states since 1999 have at one time or the other been unfortunate to have visionless and ineffective governments, but with Abia state it's been back-to-back! We have a Governor that has now spent more than 5 years in office, yet the major market of the major commercial/industrial city of the state is looking like that!? Contrast this with what Umahi has done in Ebonyi during the same period!

The people in Abia and the economy of Aba are bearing the cost of the neglect of the so called Federal roads. By the same argument, the governor shouldn't be building a flyover at Osisioma since it's a federal Road.

Aba-Owerri-PH Road ( Express junction at Osisioma through town to Express junction at Bakassi/Ariaria) is about 17km long. On the express, Osisioma to Alaoji is about 15km.

Are you saying that Abia state isn't capable of reconstructing 32 km of road and passing the bill to FG? The funds from Ariaria alone can reconstruct those roads. OK, so what's the argument for the poor state of Ngwa road? Federal road too?

There is no escuse for the bad state of roads in Abia. Ebonyi state just claimed to have completed more than 1000 Km of concrete based roads and you are saying that Abia isn't capable of much more?

Liar. Do you know the definition of a federal road? Roads that link 2 states are can described as federal road.

Faulks road is a state road

Old ABA-Umuahia road is a state road because federal government has taken up the Ph--Aba-Enugu road to replace that one because it serves the same purpose.

95% of bad roads in Abia state are all state roads. Governments in Abia state since 1999 has failed the state but the citizens are not helping matters.

When Mbadinuju was messing up in 1999, Anambra people chased him away after 4yrs and has since relegated him to the background.

The same thing has happened in Imo state, but in Abia TA Orji finished 8yrs in office and was congratulated with senatorial posts, same with Orji kalu. When shall Abia people say enough is enough? If it is to carry IPOB on the head now they will do it perfectly well.

Okezie for instance was owing several months unpaid salaries, he has nothing to show for his 1st term but Abia people still voted him. You may say its was rigged, but I tell you this for free- you can't rig if you are not popular. But Okezie despite being a failure won.

We must begin think emulate other SE states for once. We are the worst state in the region. Even ebonyi has since overtaken Abia state.

Let us spare ourselves these nice-sounding words of dashed hopes. We know Nigeria is potentially the most powerful country on earth. We also know that it will NEVER happen. Infact, Nigeria is destined to break up.

Aba is potentially the most important city in Africa. Let us make it happen so that the word "potentially" will forever be removed from these sorts of hopeful statements.

1000km of concrete roads in ebonyi? if this isnt sensentionalism on your part, that's a good one from ebonyi -their government is a class act-but I bet you even he can't totally reconstruct enugu -ph road.
Oga from aba to enugu is a distance of over 100km, from Aba to ph is a distance of over 40 km.
On an average, we are talking of reconstruction of a 100km road, dual carriageway of two or 3 lane per carriageway, with a bridge on the ph border, a flyover at Aloji section and earth reinforcing.

Don't believe me actually do some research, it's costing the federal government over 150 billion to construct the abia section of the road!!!!
Can Abia afford to reconstruct such road? with state funds hell no. Anambra and enugu couldn't reconstruct the anambra to enugu fed road, what Anambra government did was to do sections within their urban Areas -thats what Abia can do. Abia can't definitely do that whole road.
thankfully the fed are working on that road and are very close to aba -the Chinese firm handling the ph section are at work within the obigbo axis.

what some of you want is for us to join you in bemoaning Aba (that's the basis of all this denigration ) and before you go off I would point out that currently aba road umuahia, aba-owerri road aba, the nnpc depot road aba are all Federal roads being done with state funds. Newmap is also handling the ph road aba (another Federal road)

I had to go back and reread my post to see where I claimed the Federal government is solely responsible for the bad state of roads in Abia. I failed to see such so I beg you to highlight that post or keep mum and actually read before commenting.
you're not from Abia if you don't know the Federal roads in the state-obviously your a troll with nothing better to do

please quote or highlight where I blamed the FG (and don't dodge these if truly you know what you are saying)

ignore the sadist.

Continue your constructive follow up of ongoings in abia roads.
