INTRO:
Akwa Ibom is a state in Nigeria. It is located in the coastal southern part of the country, lying between latitudes 4°32′N and 5°33′N, and longitudes 7°25′E and 8°25′E. The state is located in the South-South geopolitical zone, and is bordered on the east by Cross River State, on the west by Rivers State and Abia State, and on the south by the Atlantic Ocean and the southernmost tip of Cross River State.
Akwa Ibom is one of Nigeria's 36 states, with a population of over five million people. The state was created in 1987 by Ibrahim Babangida from the former Cross River State and is currently the highest oil- and gas-producing state in the country. The state's capital is Uyo, with over 500,000 inhabitants. Akwa Ibom has an airport and two major seaports on the Atlantic Ocean with a proposed construction of a seaport at Ibaka, Oron. The state also has a 30,000-seat sports complex. It is shaped like the Allianz arena stadium. Akwa Ibom state is also home to the Ibom E-Library, an information centre. In addition to English, the main spoken languages are Ibibio, Annang, Eket and Oron.
The region of the state was created out of Cross River State on September 23, 1987 by the then Military Administration of General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida. No central government existed among the people of what is now Akwa Ibom State prior to the British invasion in 1904. Instead, the Annang, Oron, Efik, Ibonos and Ibibio were all autonomous groups.
Although several Scottish missionaries arrived in Calabar in 1848, and Ibono in 1887, the British did not firmly establish control of the area until 1904. In that year, the Enyong Division was created encompassing the area of the current state of Akwa Ibom, with headquarters at Ikot Ekpene, an Annang city described by the noted Africanist Kaanan Nair, as the cultural and political capital of Annang and Ibibio.
The creation of Enyong Division for the first time allowed the numerous ethnic groups to come together. This further provided a venue for the creation of the Ibibio Welfare Union, later renamed Ibibio State Union. This social organization was first organized as a local development and improvement forum for educated persons and groups who were shut out from the colonial administration in 1929. Nonetheless, some historians have wrongly pointed to the union to buttress their argument about the homogeneity of groups in the area. The Obolo Union, comprising Ibono and Andoni stock, was another strong socioeconomic and cultural organization that thrived in the region. The Ibono people have fought wars to maintain their unique identity and territory in the region more than any other group.
When Akwa Ibom state was created in 1987, Uyo was chosen as the state capital to spread development to all regions of the state.
Akwa Ibom State consists of thirty-one (31) local government areas. They are:
Abak, Eastern Obolo, Eket, Esit-Eket, Essien Udim, Etim-Ekpo, Etinan, Ibeno, Ibesikpo-Asutan, Ibiono-Ibom, Ika, Ikono, Ikot Abasi, Ikot Ekpene, Ini, Itu, Mbo, Mkpat-Enin, Nsit-Atai, Nsit-Ibom, Nsit-Ubium, Obot-Akara, Okobo, Onna, Oron, Oruk Anam, Ukanafun, Udung-Uko, Uruan, Urue-Offong/Oruko, Uyo.
Ethnic groups
The main ethnic groups of the state are:
Ibibio, Anaang, Oron, Eket, Obolo.
Religion
The people in Akwa Ibom are predominantly Christian.
Languages
Like their Efik neighbors of Cross River State, people of Akwa Ibom speak various dialects of the Ibibio-Efik languages, which belong to the Benue–Congo language family, forming part of the Niger–Congo group of languages.

The current region of Akwa Ibom State in old Calabar Kingdom was the firs.t to encounter Western education in Nigeria with the establishment of Hope Waddell Training Institute, at Calabar in 1895, and the Methodist Boys' High School, Oron in 1905 as well as other top schools such as the Holy Family College at Abak and Regina Coeli College in Essene.

Akwa Ibom State and the people of Akwa Ibom have witnessed an increase in its pace in developing with every passing government since the beginning of civilian rule making its mark on numerous infrastructural, agricultural, tourism and industrial developments.
Akwa Ibom as a developing state has a 99.9% chance of becoming a developed state in the next few years base on its steady and speedy investment on infrastructural developments, economic diversification, better road networks and most importantly industrialization which Akwa Ibom State has been doing and doing it very well compared to other states.
Unlike other states in Nigeria, Akwa Ibom knows its potentials and are gradually in a faster pace tapping into it and thus it is fastly becoming a state to be reckoned with both in business, tourism, education, healthcare and investments.
Akwa Ibom in the past few years now has made its mark known and are still making sure it stays that way by continuing in more face lifting projects most of which had already been commissioned and are fully functioning and yielding fruits.
As it stands; Akwa Ibom State has the best enabling environment and so many opportunities for investment, MSMES and SMES. If you are looking at investing in Agriculture, Estates, healthcare or educational institutions, industries (both fashion, music and movie), tourism and relaxation; I welcome you to Akwa Ibom State where there are better policies to enable you do business.

One thing that makes Akwa Ibom stands out is it HOSPITALITY; it is a known norm in Nigeria that the people of Akwa Ibom are the most hospitable and it is a culture in Akwa Ibom that whoever hurts a non-indigen (either from any L.G.A, State or Country) visiting or residing in Akwa Ibom State has placed a curse on his/herself and vis a vis and this culture has made Akwa Ibom the most peaceful state in Nigeria.
With giant strides in developments in the past few years now; Akwa Ibom has surely make a statement that it is fastly becoming the Nigeria of our dreams.

It baffles me how we have let tribalism to so divide us in this country that we can't see good in others; we are supposed to be a united front fighting for the development of every part of our country notwithstanding the tribe, state or religion.
Nigeria is so blessed but we have let tribalism stop it from seeing the light of the day.
{weeps} it pains me how we have let this move from one generation to another.
And to tell you the truth I am always happy whenever I hear or see developments in other parts of this my beloved country like no other.

All they need is to these three things because every thing else is coming well on it’s own they need to build better houses, of the standard in America well planned neighborhoods, than they need to provide water for all the citizens, than the last thing is to establish public parks and forest reserves across the state than it can be considered a developed state.
