An elderly woman in my area today told us that in Benin Edo state, that no single well digged there.
Am just wondering as a Nigerian and as someone who has spent most of his life in the North, where Digging well in houses is almost a must.
I have been to Kogi state also I saw well and now am in Lagos there Is well.

But she insisted there Is no well and am shocked

How true guys

We don't have wells in the past we had reservoirs thats what we call our wells, reservoirs are like wells built like them not too deep but connected underground by pipe from borehole due to the lack septic tanks in early times.....
I just remember as a boy i broke both my arms while climbing the step inside the reservoir to fetch water i slipped and fell and i broke my left arm i was in a hurry i sliped and fell inside the reservior and the other time was when i was going to drop the water fetched from the reservior i sliped and fell on my right arm the former was left on two different occasion... Lol at my early age i knew what was pain when great granma broke the arm to set it and massage the arms with boiled plantain leaves.........

You can still find the remains in some benin village again benin is a rain forest zone water is closed to the soil and borehole construction are cheaper because of less stress to dig unlike in northern areas, and even after the digging deep in those northern areas the water comes out salty and distasteful

It is because Benin City geographically is in the rainforest part of Nigeria; most houses in the capital dugged borehole for easy access of water.
So, I may likely accept the saying that Benin City has no well base on the aforementioned.
