FORTRAN remains the fastest language in history, but it’s outdated. When it comes to Object oriented programming, C# has been proven to be faster than Java YES, C# is a better programming language when compared to Java. ... C# has a really nice lambda support, Java has it, but less sophisticated; C# is less bureaucratic than Java, you write less and get more; C# allows inline use of anonymous classes, Java does not.

And so many more....

If you can get a laptop with 8GB ram, that’ll be good enough to start off.

Good day bro, abeg what is ur take on these 2 laptops below for programming? can u recommend the best for me between them? ..

(1) Hp 17
Corei5 7th Generation
1TB HDD
8GB RAM
Windows 10
although the cache is in kilobytes..

....&...

(2)Hp pavilion 17
AMD A10
1TB HDD
8GB RAM
Windows 10

I have checked the specs but me sef confuse, corei5's cache memory is in kilobytes , while the pavilion runs an AMD processor( read in the past where some gurus here said " run from anything AMD)

Bro thanks, but why the first one? when I checked the cache memory , it is in kilobytes & I read here on nairaland that any processor with less than 2 MB cache memory is a no no

Modified : below is a screenshot from Desyner about cache memory

Okay, here why.

AMD processor weren't as good as Intel's back in the day(A-series), not that they don't work but compared to similar Intel, they were below par and some people say they overheat.

This changed when AMD came with their ryzen processors. The Ryzen 3000 and 4000 series (just came out) are better than Intel processors and are cheaper and comes with better integrated GPU, basically a flawless victory.

So unless you're buying a Ryzen(3xxx or 4xxx), getting a 6th gen+ Intel core i5 is a better choice.

Regarding cache,
I doubt you're getting the cache value correctly. Post the exact name of the CPU, lemme check out the cache size myself.
A core i5 7th gen shouldn't be any problem at all, even the least one.

As a side note, getting an SSD hard drive, even if it's 256gb is better than a 1TB HDD drive. it'll speed up development and running applications. So get an SDD option instead of a HDD

OK, thanks for the explanation. Below is a screenshot of the HP corei5

AMD has its own advantages too, but I’ll advise you go with the first option tho. That should be good since you want to use the laptop for programming and other regular stuffs. If you would be using the laptop for gaming then I can maybe suggest AMD. Every spec has their own advantages regardless

OK, thanks for the explanation. Below is a screenshot of the HP corei5
comes with 3MB cache

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/95443/intel-core-i5-7200u-processor-3m-cache-up-to-3-10-ghz.html

To support the comment before this, AMD processors come with good integrated graphics. So if you plan to use the system for any graphics work or gaming, you're better off with the AMD.

Thanks bro, I have done extensive research , I think I will settle with the corei5. I am not a gamer, but might delve into ui/ux later

Forget that rubbish my friend. Do you know how privileged you are to have a cache in kilobytes. Well, the problem comes Also from high level languages of nowadays that waste a lot of memory and are so damn slow. Read up on the x86 architecture when you have time or get an x86 assembly book and you'll understand what a cache is.

Nice thread, C# is the way forward, I never regretted learning C# , you can virtual do anything with it. C# is less verbose and helps productivity with Linq queries for in memory data manipulation and communication with database

If you’re just doing stuff in the console, a text editor like VS Code (made by Microsoft themselves), or Atom with some extensions will work well.
If you’re actively testing apps, then you’ll need either the full Visual Studio (for cross-platform), Android Studio (for Android) or Xcode (for Apple platforms)

Intermediate programmers often get confused with the logic behind an extension method, why it’s needed and when it’s needed. In considering app security, One of the SOLID principles in object oriented programming suggests the need for classes to be open for extension and closed for modifications.

In here, I have clearly explain how extension method works in C# object oriented programming.
