Couldn't have said it any better.
Stop supporting abusers. Help the abused and let us teach our children now that abusive behaviour towards women isn't tolerated and is very wrong. Too much rubbish is allowed to thrive in Nigeria because we've been indoctrinated to believe it's okay. Thankfully, nations like Canada have robust laws that protect everyone's rights and those laws are actually enforced. Either you act right or you face the law. Shekena

Teach your kids that abusive behavior towards any gender is not tolerated. Thank you.

Good day people.

1. Please has anyone had his / her expired PR validated or extended? Is there a clear process or timeline for renewal? Do we have to redo medicals?
PS: This information isnt on their website and even though we'll notify as instructed via webform, I just want to be prepared.

2. Can anyone point me in the direction of any Whatsapp group arranging flights out of Nigeria to Canada?

Thank you.

Typical gaslighting. Is it the system that raises hands for a partner to be beaten up? Is it the system that causes a partner to batter a person's mind relentlessly?
The family has already been destroyed by the abuser so why is the government being blamed?
Abuse is abuse, there's no IF ,AND or BUT.
The person benefitting from the police being called is the one who has suffered emotional, physical or psychological damage and rightly so.
A person who is able to get away from an abusive partner should be congratulated for being strong enough to leave.
Children suffer so much damage by watching their parents go at each other constantly, you produce unhappy children who repeat the same cycle thinking it is normal.
If a woman or man decides to use Canada as an opportunity to revenge,it's not anyone's place to chastise them. Do you know what they suffered?
If you treat a whole human being like shit for years and years and they bear it because of being in the Nigerian society, when they move to Canada and see they deserve better,it's only expected that the person will act out.
The guilt does NOT lie at the foot of the abused!
All these una statements are the reason why people die in abusive situations..There is only so much that a human being can take without breaking down.
Anyone who is abused should seek counseling for themselves to gather strength to move on.It is not your job to hold brief for your abuser.
You deserve better, your children deserve to grow up in a healthy happy home.

@ oseoji:
Everything you said here is so on point.

I shake my head when I hear people say that the system here is set up to destroy the family. As far as I am concerned, the system is fair, and it is set up to protect everybody irrespective of your gender (male or female). All you need to do is to know the system; do the right things and your family will be intact.

Apart from the potential death of the person being abused (even in situations where the abuse is not physical), what many people fail to understand is the extent of other damages caused by such abuse (physical, psychological, emotional etc.) on the person being abused, the children and the society. The kids see everything going on and they in turn may become abuser or they feel it is okay to be abused in a relationship. You end up bringing up kids that become abusers and bully people at school or they keep quiet when being abused or bullied at school because they think it is okay to be abused.

Even if the person being abused refuses to call the police, the neighbors may notice that something is wrong and call the police. When you take your kids to see the doctor, or you take them to the hospital, they always ask them if they feel safe at home or if they are being abused at home. Be rest assured that if the kids do not feel safe at home they will say so and you can expect a child protection agent and or police knocking on your door if it is as a result of being abused at home. So, as you can see no matter how much you try to hide the abuse, it will eventually become open. The only solution is NO ABUSE, and everybody will be happy.

Finally, I repeat, if anybody is being abused in their relationship report the abuse to the police or talk to a lawyer. To the abuser, please STOP IT before you destroy yourself with a criminal record and inability to get a job in Canada (see my earlier comments below about this). Think about this before you start abusing somebody (or before committing any type of crime) and claiming the system is set up to destroy you. The system is not destroying you. You are the one destroying yourself.

SixSigma1:
Finally, while @yokus already mentioned the possibility of being deported as an immigrant (who is yet to become a Canadian Citizen) if you commit a crime, I will also like to mention that for those of us that are already Canadian Citizens while we can not be deported, your life can be permanently destroyed if you are found guilty of any type criminal offence. You will get a criminal record which will prevent you from being able to get a job (especially professional jobs) and also prevent you from being able to travel to the USA and some other countries.

I hope this friend of yours has a lawyer now because he would have been charged to court. He should get a criminal lawyer. He will not be able to get a job or even travel to the United States because of the charge until he clears himself. Unfortunately, courts are not in session due to COVID-19 which further increases the stress.

I feel sad for this newly immigrated family because of the financial burden they would experience. However, he needs a very good lawyer who can devise a strategy to resolve this without any conviction so he can function properly in society. Please inform him this is not the time to hold any animosity towards the wife and the wife should not feel justified in calling the Police. They have both made a mess and need to be on the same team to get the situation resolved. After all, they got themselves into it in the first place.

Couples should seek alternative means to de-escalate issues. Screaming or shouting at each other is also abuse and when threats are involved it can be considered to be assault especially when the victim claims to be afraid. Also, neighbors are listening and may call the Police and when kids are involved, the Police will involve Child Protection Service who would interview both parties and the kids to consider if the home is safe for them and based on the response of the kids, they may be separated from the family too and placed in foster care.

Nobody wins in this, only the Government and their officials - who may get a promotion on your head/matter.

That's a terrible experience for your friend. The system has setup the family for imminent collapse and if they're not careful it will end in tears.

Just like Boss13 said, there is no winner in any abusive relationship except the government and police who would collect promotion on top Una head. All those women planning to show their husbands hell when they travel abroad because they are no longer in Nigeria should be careful. I hope they see this.
Please stop blaming the system. No system made them fail, their nasty behaviour did. I’ve spent more than 5 years in Canada and know people who have spend longer time here and are still married. All they want is to treat others the way you will treat yourself. This goes for both gender.

The cute lady beside me slept for the better part of the journey while I was finding it hard to sleep. I was calm tho cos I got TCC (travel clearance certificate) from my village ppl and they already promised not to follow me to Canada. So I had nothing to worry about.

Landed in Edmonton and saw that one of my checked in bags was ripped. I wasn't surprised tho cos the bag had a whole lot of orisirisi and panti foodstuffs.
Stepped out of the airport and was greeted with cold but I decided not to use my jacket, I got shocked when my host came wearing armless and said the weather was warm... Ki lo warm exactly? Are you people playing me ni? It was at that moment I started dreading winter. As I type this, my jacket is on while people are wearing pants n bra outside my window

I'm settling in quite well even tho I'm still in shock how 10pm can be looking like 4pm and 5am be looking like 9am. There's no way one can predict the time by looking outside in this country.

It's time to start 'living life' as opposed to just 'merely existing' in Nigeria

I'm finally HOME. 10/7/20
Home is where an average person can afford 3 square meals per day. Home is where security is well guaranteed. Home is where there is no huge discrepancy between the rich and the poor. Home is where our resources and funds are not being embezzled by our corrupt leaders . Home is where there are job provisions for graduates. HOME is where there is HOPE!! Home is, home is, home is, home is.................. CANADA
Have a dream and work towards making it a reality.

NB: Ignore the errors cos I hate proofreading, I bet that's why I wrote IELTS twice grin

Big shout outs to those who made this happen.

This was a great read. Welcome to Canada

I think what the person means is that Bachelors program won’t give you enough points to get an invitation to apply. Read the first page of the express entry thread, it is loaded with information.

HELLO,
I'm looking for a female room mate to share a 3 bedroom house in the NW area of Edmonton, just off the Henday in a quiet neighbourhood.
The lease will kick start September 1st and must be willing to sign a one year lease. Rent is 800 dollars a month with all utilities included .
it's just going to be the 2 of us in the house and the third room will be for when either party has a guest over .
If you are a student its really close to a bus terminal if you dont drive, for a professional who would like to take the bus to work too there is a bus terminal where you can park your car for free and ride the bus. If you are interested please message me with a few detail about yourself .
Thank you.

Please guys, do not let your guard down here. I know crime and fraud is low here but things dey happen for this Canada. Someone I know got defrauded while attempting to rent a house in Toronto. A lady posed as a landlord, even had fake mortgage documents for the house and canadian passport. Took my friend on tour round the house. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, so my friend paid the lady $2000(as first and last month's rent) via interac. A day before my friend was to move in, this lady tells her that there has been some complications. That the existing tenant isn't willing to leave any more, so she plans on taking them to the landlord-tenant board. She then promises my friend that she would refund her the money spent on booking Uhaul and put her in airbnb for 10 days at her own expense, while she sorts out eviction of the tenant. The next day, my friend called her but the line was dead. My friend then visits the house, and met an old man there. She told the man that she was there to check out the apartment she rented. The man told her that he owns the house and the girl is actually just living in his house. He went on to say that the girl was recently arrested by the police for rent fraud and she is to leave his house soon.

At that point my friend says she was in rage.. Anyways she asked the man to shut the door behind her, while she confronted the girl. The girl admitted to the crime and says she was in need of money. That all the documents my friend earlier sighted was fake, including documents from BMO and those supposedly from her lawyer. The lady had no remorse, only instructed my friend not to call the police because she wasn't ready to go back to them. Thankfully, my friend called the police and insisted that she must get her money. At that point, the lady's boyfriend got involved. He refunded my friend just before the cops showed up. They got away just as the cops were showing up. The cops were like same house, same girl. Turns out the girl had even made it to the news, here:

Good day House, I've been a silent reader of this great platform. please house, what course can I possibly do here in Canada that will give me a good career. I have met and spoken to some people that said I shouldn't go to Uni to do a master's program, that it's a waste of money. some are of the opinion that a professional certificate course is better. I'm just confused now. I recently applied for my PR. I hope to get till before the end of the year so I can start a master's degree course as a home student next year, but my dilemma now is I don't even know what degree course to study or the next line of action to take in my career. I work as a security guard but I'm never happy, I should be doing better. I'm grateful for where I am now though but I read of people doing good jobs and doing great in this country. Please any advice is welcome. Thank you
Hi,
Things do not go the way we plan sometimes but i am glad you are still grateful for where you are. I believe you should look at the skills you already have and probably you should think about what you will like to go into. Whatever career you choose will determine what pathway you will take, whether its going to be university or professional certificate. I know i might not have helped much but God has a plan for everyone.

Let me begin by saying; I hear you.

If your don't mind, what discipline is your bachelors? I completely agree on not rushing to do a Masters degree. In Nigeria, having a master's degree is seen as some sort of achievement and the way to go. However, that is not the case in Canada - unless your career is such that requires it for growth.

Education asides, what is/are your interest(s)? Have you considered having a career in Trades or Nursing or some other profession that may not be 'fly' but income and sustainability is guaranteed?

If your motivation towards getting a Masters degree is personal gratification, then by all means do so. However, if your motivation is having a sustainable career where you can earn a good income, then it's time to be practical.

So far, my professional journey in Canada has taken a path that I never imagined. My present industry is a complete opposite of my intended industry when I landed, but truth be told I am happy where I am and financially content.

Thank you so much. I have a bachelor's degree in applied business computing. My motivation is building and having a sustainable career. I want to be financially stable as well so I don't mind any advice on a professional career to pursue. I came here seeking information from people like you that have been there, experienced it, and being successful in what you do. I don't think nursing is for me. I have no clue about trading either. I will appreciate if you can shed more light on your professional journey here in Canada. I'm sorry if I'm asking too much though, I don't want to make a mistake that will cost me time and money again. I've had sleepiness night to save some money and I needed to invest it wisely on a rewarding career. I've thought about CAPM or PMP certificate in project management, but I need to gather the right information.
