Exercise 3

Question 16 - 20

I have been trying for quite a very long time now just to understand the examples given for solving the 5 questions described above so that I can treat it with my pupils.

I don't know wether there is anybody who understand the reasoning behind that exercise very well so that he can explain.

the first example is 4+7=11×2=22(when the arrow points up) next is 25-4=21÷3=7(when the arrow points down). for number 17: 15+12=27. 27/1×1/3= 27/3= 9.

Answer to page 46 of Lantern Quantitative Reasoning 5.

Add constant 5 to the first number before multiply the answer by second number. That is: 7 + 5 =12 × 4 = 48
Also 12 + 5 =17 × 10 = 170

Ex C

For verticals

(2*5)+2 = 12

(4*6)+2 = 26

For horizontal
17-(3+2) = 12

Hence

11. (5*5)+2 = 27 B

12. 42-(x+2) = 12
x= 40 -12 = 28 B

13. (x * 1/2) +2 = 17
x = 15*2 = 30 B

14. (5*7)+2 = 37 D

15. x -(28+2) = 16
x = 30+16 = 46 D

Ex B Use mod 7

5+2 = 7...7/7 =1

8+6=14.....14/7 = 2

6+4=10.......10/7 = 1 r3 = 1.3
Note that dot (.) represent remainder (r)

Hence
6. 4+4= 8.....8/7 = 1r1 = 1.1 B

7. 1.2+5 = 1r2 + 5 = (7+2)+5
9+5 = 14.....14/2 = 2 A

8. 6+3 = 9......9/7 = 1r2 = 1.2 E

9. 5+6 = 11.....11/7 = 1r4 = 1.4 A

10. 3+2 = 5 A
