Thanks for the response sir.

Is it possible to be both?
Like, after my Php and MySQL can I switch to python or R for database administration?
Yes, definitely

You know your stuff for even attempting to solve the problem. Before you enter any foreign company as a programmer or even Andela, you must solve algorithm. Kindly solve using JavaScript or Python if interested and email me the .py or .js result.

I sent you a PM yesterday.

Well, I will give you an honest opinion in the optimistic context.

While many say "sure you can", at that age the truth is its relative to a lot of factors. I don't want to discourage you cos they right, you can achieve anything if you true to your goals but am the type that like to be realistic and true to my self. Not that its impossible, its just that how prepared are you mentally for the task ahead considering your antecedence.

You need to be true to yourself. Many don't understand the concept of programming as it is multifaceted on its own. The are many types of programming languages out there. So depending on what you are going for will also determine whether you can cope or not.

Also there are different aspects of programming. Basically, there is the frontend and a backend side of programming. The latter requires more in depth knowledge on programming logics than the frontend side of it. Back end is more db related and your intuition level and logical reasoning must be spot on. You must be a good analyst and deep thinker to survive that end. Also to that end, you understand some core basic machine language, then how storage is being handled. So depending which side you want to go, it determines how deep you can go. Even the front end isn't a walk in the park but you will survive at your age.

That brings us to the question about your history is quantitative analysis. How good is your reading and reasoning skills? Cos programmers are thinkers and they must be able to interprete their thoughts in logical steps to achieve desired results. The phone we use, just imagine how deep people think to program a phone just to give us joy. So its serious business with 247 dedication.

That leads to the final question, what's your social life like cos I will tell you one truth, if you are a faaji person, a baller who is very active in social life, I suggest you forget programming cos most programmers are solitary folks whose nature doesn't go with a faaji person. As a thinker, you probably spend more time quietly and indoors. You probably be walking with pen and notepad everywhere. Just look at zuckerberg, his fashion sense is zero, not because he doesn't have the money, he just doesn't have the time to look good.

With all that being discussed, if you being honest with yourself, you will know what yo do.
Great analysis. If he doesn’t have the passion for programming but only wants to delve into it because of the hype and buzz around it, he’ll quit sooner than later.
If he’s a family man, he should stick to his job or whatever brings him income and learn programming as an extra skill, not abandoning his current job and switching fully like he’s trying to do. Else he’ll be frustrated quickly due to lack of income while learning.
I am also learning Javascript alongside my normal job, when I am well grounded, I’ll look for a programmer job.

In your experience, what have you programmed that required all this maths. Or any maths at all?
Graphics programming ( OpenGl/WebGl)
A Toy Compiler.
You need linear algebra and differential equations (if you're implementing your own lib or physics engine.

What's next?

You'll naturally find your way.
Textbooks will be an easy ride especially technical manuals like the C language specifications, or JPEG compression algorithm.

pls drop a comprehensive list of math needed to be learnt while learn python... i just started python 3weeks ago with w3 and so far it has been amazing...rsvp
Python doesn't require much math so long as you stick to prepackaged libraries like pyQt.
The only times you'd need math is if you're doing AI, data analysis or anything numerical.
Most tasks or functions you might need have already been implemented and battle tested.

what is this?? So are you telling me that to build a CRUD functional web app you need to know linear algebra??
It's not about math, it's about thinking logically, and well that comes over time.

Whoever the OP is, yes there are some areas you might consider delving into that will require Math of some sort, but that could always be learnt. The most important thing is that you learn to think logically and analytically.

I said that with an eye on the future, unfortunately not everyone will understand until they hit the wall I faced......that is if they will ever get there.

indeed those grounded in theoretical computing can easily get a quick jump.

I have met very good programmers who can take forever to develop a recursive function to solve a problem.

OP pls dont take this advice he doesn't know what his saying just start with programming language that has simple syntax e.g python or c++ for you to get the basic concept and it depends on what you want to achieve you can search on google or ask for help for better guidance
For your mind now C++ get simple syntax abi?

The thread is filled with many ignorant answers. Javascript that came out in 1995 the same time as java is what is called new and shiny. The same javascript that is being used in machine learning with tensorflowjs and can be used to make desktop applications with electron.
I think they're referring to JS' frameworks. You know, it can be hard for beginners to know what to settle on.

You are right, not all but I never said all but then again, If I ask you, what aspect of programming are you? You did be mentioning one of those high-level programming languages which is why you still have time for faaji.

By the time you start programming compilers or start writing assembly languages or start database programming or even scripting, then you probably begin to understand my point of view
from what u have stated please can you state the programming languages I can study to be a full stack, software developer.I need step by step programming languages I can start with and the YouTube channel I can download all the videos thanks

Unfortunately, no one wants to tell him this truth. He'll end up struggling all through the rest of his career except he just want to do it for the fun of it. Even at my age, I'm sad I didn't start earlier when I was in secondary school. I would have gone far .
Gone far to where..?
Why would someone be learning one particular language for a year (365 days) without becoming a guru.. He is coming from Engineering background and most of the things some of you guys find strange or difficult in programming are mostly straightforward for engine guys.
Some programmer here are talking about Recursion and Nested loop as if its one extraordinary thing they are talking about.
He should venture into Embedded and Cyber physical systems instead.

I studied engineering so I haven't seen any math or logic anywhere that's to big to handle. By far, I mean most of my colleagues who started earlier are now very vast and know multiple languages.

Learning a programming language is as learning a new language as Spanish or Chinese. This is not about studying engineering or not. It requires dedications, time, consistency and all. If at 40, he's willing to give in all those without distractions, then good luck to him.
