WWE Smackdown recap reviews and reactions Naomi deserves better Naomi didn’t even get enough talking time in a segment on this show devoted to talking about her trending on Twitter last week. The title of this recap speaks for itself. In the span of a decade, Naomi has been mistreated by WWE creative. Last week, after losing a quick and dumb match against Lacey Evans, who is not over in the least bit, many fans took to Twitter with #NaomiDeservesBetter and got it trending into Saturday evening. And what she said on Miz TV is the truth. By the way, WWE cuts out a lot of their YouTube videos and for them to put the Seth Rollins puking stars up first instead of leading right in with Naomi talking is everything you need to know. She said the fans support her and she supports them. They are her motivation. Naomi proves that on her social media platforms. As Miz pointed out, she got a loud reaction when she returned in the Royal Rumble this year. Her entrance is eye catching and popular. She has naturally gotten over. But that doesn’t fit in to plans around WWE so she doesn’t get the spotlight. Yes, she did win the SmackDown women’s title twice, but what since? What even before, besides being most memorably a part of the Funkadactyls? She has expressed interest in tagging with Bianca Belair. I don’t see why that isn’t done in two weeks after this dumb feud with Lacey is done. So of course Miz and Morrison bring out Lacey Evans and who cares? Her poor lipstick got messed up so she got really mad but Naomi fought her off. I hate this. All over a miserable karaoke contest. Friends fight for a title shot Sasha and Bayley started this show giving up the new definition of greatness. The women’s revolution started with them, and it will end with them. The boys and girls watching at home will see that their dreams can come true, but Bayley chimed in and said that as hard as they try, they’ll never be as great as they are. BlissCross interrupted and an irate Cross said she demanded a rematch for the championship she was cheated out of at Extreme Rules. Bayley accepted a match for next week, but only if she can beat Alexa in a match. And either one who wins can face her. Stakes! The match started right after the break and Cross and Bliss did not hold back. Cross tried for a quick pin and Bliss seemed mad that she’d attempt it and targeted Cross’s taped up ribs. Bliss ducked out of a tornado DDT and kicked Cross in the ring skirt because she knows her best friend’s moves. After a well fought bout, Cross pinned Bliss with a small package. After the match, Cross and Bliss said there were no hard feelings and Bliss tried to hype up her friend for her title match next week. This was the exact conclusion I hoped for, because I have a suspicion that BlissCross Applesauce is over next week. I didn’t really feel any genuine happiness from Alexa wishing Nikki well after the match. Yes you could attribute that to her just losing, but she didn’t want the match to begin with. WWE clearly pivoted on the Sasha/Bayley breakup and I think Alexa may play a role in Nikki losing her rematch. The million dollar question - who turns heel? Cinematic bar fight "Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine...." This was by all intents and purposes, a standard wrestling street fight in a bar. It had your beer thrown in faces, it had the classic dragging a body through glasses on the bar spot, it had a scene in the bathroom, and because its a street fight rules match, it had wrestling moves! Sheamus broke a stool on Hardy’s back after Hardy but the bartender (same one from a few weeks ago!) through a table. Sheamus Brogue Kicked a drum, Sheamus put Hardy in a urinal face first, Hardy threw small basketballs dodgeball style at Sheamus (Sheamus clearly didn’t learn how to dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge), and a convenient ladder happened to be lying around for Hardy to jump off of. The end result was the right man winning. Jeff swanton bombed off the top and got the three count. Honestly I laughed through most of this so it wasn’t as offensive to me as I had originally thought it would be. One thing needs to happen though - this feud needs to be over. Why the hell was this cinematic and not the eye for an eye match? United, never divided I am featuring the small part of Kofi and Big E in my review because of one reason: Big E absolutely positively one hundred percent...ly deserves a singles run. Kofi came out of the trainer’s room and told E that he will be out up to 6 weeks due to injury. He said that he and Woods have talked and said that E deserves the spotlight because he put himself on hold for Kofi when he had the WWE title. Give. Big E. An. Intercontinental. Title. Run. E can easily slot right into a Styles program after next week’s title match. Give me a program leading into SummerSlam and E takes the title. Braun is back home - Bray Wyatt spoke from the Fun House after a recap of the swamp fight at Extreme Rules. His lantern which resembles the old Bray was saying some words I couldn’t catch but Bray said family reunions warm his soul, and Braun Strowman came back home. He knows some of us are worried that he’s trapped in the swamp forever now, but it’s okay, that swamp is 100% certified organic. Heh. Braun should be coming back as a Brooklyn hipster then. No Braun at all on this show, just small mention of him by Bray and Michael Cole after. There didn’t seem to be much concern for his well being. Gran Metalik def. Lince Dorado, Chad Gable, and Drew Gulak - Whenever Lucha House Party are in the ring, you need to keep up because they are fast paced and agile as hell. Gable and Gulak had a great moment in the match too where Gulak had a smooth reversal. Gable has amazing moonsaults. Daddy Dorado is bad ass, y’all. I said what I said. He had a frog splash that rivaled Montez Ford on Raw. I did not expect Metalik to win this one. Dorado had a better showing in my opinion. Matt Riddle def. Tony Nese - Riddle started the match with some aggression and Nese didn’t really get any offense in. Quick win for him. He called out Corbin after and Corbin came out said Riddle has that new car smell, but when that fades, you’re left with a frat boy with no shoes who looks like he just rolled out of bed. He put a King’s Ransom for anyone to prove to him that Riddle can’t hack in on SmackDown. Nese tried to sneak attack the Bro but he put Nese down with a kick. The bar fight had originally soured me on this whole episode of SmackDown before it aired, but it was not too bad. Will we see Braun next week? I don’t think so. Will Naomi win next week? I really hope so. Who will go after Riddle for Corbin, that has not bored me for the past two weeks? Otis and Mandy are back next week and I need them back in my life. 1 Like 1 Share |

WWE Raw reviews recaps and reactions It’s really happened, y’all. Bayley Dos Straps and now a five time Raw women’s champion, Two Beltz Banks, baby! Banks walked out with the Raw women’s title, which was a bit strange because you’d have thought with how powerful Stephanie McMahon is, she’d have ordered Sasha to give up the title. But calling Stephanie a bully for making this match was a great touch. What a match this was. Right before it started, Kairi Sane chased Bayley up the ramp and backstage so she didn’t try to interfere. Early in, Sasha tried to Guerrero herself into a win by tossing the titles into the ring so that the ref would have his back turned and claimed Asuka hit her with the Raw title. He didn’t fall for it though, and Sasha roundhouse kicked her for it. They put on a real barnburner. Sasha had some great drop kicks, Asuka busted out a damn Codebreaker, a german suplex, Sasha did the frog splash. Later into the match, Bayley appeared on the tron and was attacking Kairi. Asuka was in a real predicament and kept at Sasha, but when Kairi screamed out Asuka in pain, she limped up the ramp to help her friend. Asuka was counted out, and Sasha won. Bayley ran back out and celebrated with Sasha. In the back, Asuka came out of a training room where Kairi was being tended to and was very emotional, which was likely the official write off of Kairi Sane in WWE. It was real and no pun intended, raw. The finish was certainly controversial. I do think that they wrote off Kairi well, but Asuka just leaving the match was odd. It was classic stupid babyface syndrome, but in a way it also worked because Asuka has a real love for Kairi that’s been documented on the show. Personally, I am willing to let it go because it fit in some respect, and I also really wanted to see the Role Models holding all the gold. How did you feel about this? Dominik plus kendo stick is fire Once in a while a segment comes along that captivates me. This was a segment that made feel the feelings I should have felt as a viewer based off of the fantastic performance of the people involved telling the story perfectly. And I didn’t realize that out of all the segments with the Monday night Messiah, the one that involves a non-WWE wrestler would do the job. Seth came out and said he beat Rey Mysterio and Aleister Black, but he’s not done, because Dominik came to Raw. It seems that every time the greater good takes two steps forward, someone steps in his way, and he is forced to take a step back. He invited Dominik out for a face to face. Dom came out and was sheepish, but Seth was very comforting and calm so that Dominik would get in the ring. Seth held out his arms for a hug and Dom attacked him. Murphy and Seth attacked back, and threw him into the announce table, but Aleister Black made the save. He didn’t do much though. Here’s the first excellent part of this segment. Seth yelled at and slapped Murphy and told him he knew what he had to do. Murphy, with a scared look in his eyes, said “Me?” After the slap, Murphy fired up and shoved Aleister’s eye right into the step. He went around to the other side of the ring for more, and then the second excellent of this segment occurred. Dominik Mysterio treated us all to some baseball since baseball is in turmoil right now. He swung for the fence with a kendo stick to both Murphy and Seth. It was so violent and vicious. Dom stood tall to end this and I was salivating for more. Salivating! Dominik Mysterio had some of the best babyface fire I’ve seen this year. I want a match between him and Seth at SummerSlam. As for Murphy, there was some very interesting storytelling with him here. There’s some excellent nuance going on, where Murphy is almost doubting his role as Seth’s disciple. Maybe he’s starting to snap out of Seth’s ruse? Perhaps a Civil War is brewing in the greater good? Give me what I want Motivated Randy Orton is a delight, friends. He started off the show and said that the Rock and Stone Cold can’t hold a candle to his longevity or accomplishments, name dropping his former stables. And this morning he woke up and decided he wants a WWE championship match at SummerSlam. He then dressed Drew McIntyre down saying his list of accomplishments are even shorter than everyone’s but he has respect for Drew for working his work back up after getting his ass fired. McIntyre has what he wants. And he’s going to take it with an RKO he’ll never see coming. Later, McIntyre addressed Orton’s comments, and accepted the match at SummerSlam. He said that he hopes Orton thinks he’s an underdog so that he can kick his ass just like he did Brock’s at WrestleMania. He may not see the RKO coming, but Orton will see the Claymore. After McIntyre won in his main event match against Ziggler, Orton did his thing. He raised the WWE title up to close the show as McIntyre was near motionless on the mat. What a great opening promo. Orton is at the top of his game right now and consistently a great part of the show. He 100% deserves a title match after his fantastic 2020 thus far. Drew also did a really nice job, because serious babyface Drew is the best Drew. When they have him being serious he is consistently great on the mic. I am excited for SummerSlam. 50-50 booking strikes again To end the highlights, comes a biiiig low. The match between Bobby Lashley and Mustafa Ali was pretty great, but I would be remiss to not acknowledge how much I HATE 50-50 booking. Mustafa Ali is back after a long hiatus, and WWE put him on Raw, and gave him a hero’s welcome last week. He pinned MVP, too. So tell me why WWE would book a match between these two men this week, when they should know that neither of them should be taking a loss? They should know that. Yet, here we are. It is so disappointing that WWE booked Ali in this match, instead of, say, against Shelton Benjamin in a non-title bout. We’ve seen those plenty of times. It was an easy decision to protect both Ali and Lashley, and they went right back to the status quo. Andrade and Angel Garza def. Viking Raiders, Ricochet, and Cedric Alexander - Andrade and Garza thought that they were going to get away with hanging out on the outside while Vikings and Fly Boys (yeah we’re gonna do this now) fought each other in the ring. Both teams got them back in and worked each one over individually. Ric got a nasty kick set up by Ced to Andrade. Andrade and Ric then teamed up to get Erik out of the way. Ric got baited into an attack once that was done. Ric hit a springboard lariat and a shooting star on Garza, and Ivar went to the top and almost killed everyone, except Garza, who took advantage and pinned Cedric. It was pretty obvious that Andrade and Garza were winning this one. A part of me thought maybe they’d do Raiders again and continue that Infinity War between them, but WWE did the right thing. I also like that they continue to gel and not have any miscommunication. Will that happen at SummerSlam, or will they become tag champions? I’m holding out for another week before coming to any conclusions. Drew McIntyre def. Dolph Ziggler - We had ourselves another Extreme Rules match between these two men. Some decent spots with some hard hitting kendo stick shots, Drew put Dolph through the barricade, and Drew won by Claymore kicking Dolph into a table. I am very happy this is now over. Welcome to double count-out land - Jax felt the need to let us know that her previous title opportunities were bungled at the hands of other people, namely Charlotte Flair, who hasn’t been seen around as of late. (Popped for someone in the crowd shouting “She’s hiding!”) Jax demanded a Raw women’s title match and out came Shayna Baszler, and she got right in Jax’s face and said she doesn’t give a damn what she wants. A brawl ensued and a match did not come out of it. So a little while later they had a match. Well they had a brawl that went to a double count out. They then destroyed all officials that came out and tried to separate them. So I am unsure why that couldn’t have just been in the opening segment, but it was quite a brawl nonetheless. Shayna putting away the big bad monster Nia should be the End Game. Murphy def. Humberto Carrillo - This was a quick high flying bout... They’ve wrestled before so we pretty much know what to expect from them. Raw was mostly great, with a few moments that were not great. I loved everything about the Banks/Asuka match, the Seth/Murphy/Dominik segment, Orton’s promo, and tag team triple threat. Mustafa Ali’s booking is something I really disliked. Let him win! Don’t book a match that both men shouldn’t be losing. SummerSlam is near and we’re seeing some of what Raw will be featuring. I’m liking it so far |

NXT reviews recaps and reactions Breakout The main event this week was the triple threat match between Finn Bálor, Timothy Thatcher, & Dexter Lumis. The winner to go onto TakeOver: Bleep to compete in the North American title ladder match. When they announced this match, many fans got excited. These are three entertaining but very different superstars. Finn Bálor is NXT royalty, a talented veteran. Timothy Thatcher is special in the ring with his proficiency in catch wrestling. And Dexter Lumis has proven he’s mastered his stalker character, one that is constantly enjoyable. But given their mix of styles, there was always a risk it just wouldn’t mesh. You can put three good wrestlers in a match and that match isn’t necessarily going to be good. Especially when their styles are so different. Luckily, it worked here. This was a fun bout with a blast of an ending. Here’s how that closing sequence went down: First Lumis grabbed Thatcher in his Silence submission, but Finn broke it up with a Coup de Grace to Dexter. Then Tim, who had worked over Bálor’s leg earlier in the match, locked a Leg Lock onto the Prince. Finally Dexter returned, almost emerging from the shadows, to apply the the Silence to Thatcher again. However Thatcher wouldn’t let Finn go, perhaps hoping he’d score a win before fading. But Bálor was too tenacious and Tim passed out, awarding the match to Dexter. Dexter joins his fellow Breakout Tournament competitor Bronson Reed for a match that really is looking like it’s going to help build an upcoming talent. Given the way both Reed and Lumis look like a big deal coming out of these matches, which have them going over established wrestlers, NXT is doing a good job building up their midcard. As for the other two, perhaps we’ll see Finn and Tim feud. There are certainly worse things they could do with both men. Serious Lee Keith Lee is pissed. After last week, he should be pissed. He had to watch his friend get brutalized by Karrion Kross, who’s been playing games with the champ. Keith couldn’t throw in the towel because Dominik Dijakovic insisted he don’t. But that was not easy for the champ. He still had to watch him get hurt. Because of that, Lee wasn’t messing around this week. He marched to the ring with a purpose. No hitting his pose. No smiles. Instead, a man focused. A man angry. He cut a killer promo that conveyed that without going over the top. He did the little things, like referring to Dominik by his indie name (Dijak), given that’s how he’s known him for so long. He dropped the word bullshit a couple times too, but in a way that didn’t feel cheap. They bleeped it as well, which actually feels less like a stunt. He felt warranted given how we got here. Lee is the type of person who doesn’t get louder when angry. He doesn’t shout. He doesn’t raise his voice. He lowers it in a way you know shit is serious right now. Kind of like how you knew you were in trouble as a kid when your mother lowered her voice instead of raising it. Cameron Grimes tried to run his mouth at Keith’s expense. It was a bit of a comedy reprieve, but at the same time, it showed just how serious Lee is right now. He’s not going to joke around with the fabulously obnoxious Grimes(Raunallo was excellent in his finger scratching on a blackboard narration). He’s going to grab him by the throat. And when Grimes tried to sneak attack later on, he ate a nasty Spirit Bomb. Scarlett appeared, acting as the herald of Kross, before Karrion popped up on the big screen to deliver his message. He started by prodding his foe, telling Lee he was going to have to live with leaving Dijak out to dry last week. Then he delivered an ominous warning: Give him a title match or more will get hurt. He didn’t need to tell Keith twice, who is game. But William Regal weighed in later to make it known that he makes the matches and you have to earn a title match. (Outside Dijakovic a couple weeks ago that is.) This story continues to own. It only took a few weeks, but this match has some real heat behind it. It’s personal. Lee sold that last week and this week, with both his facial expressions and his convincing promo. Meanwhile, their “less is more” approach to Kross makes his eventual lock up with the champ highly anticipated. Women’s tag NXT opened the night with a traditional tag match between Io Shirai & Tegan Nox against Dakota Kai & Candace LeRae. There isn’t too much to say here. It did exactly what it was meant to. It gave us a tease of Io vs. Dakota. And that definitely delivered because those two didn’t hold back on each other. It shows that when these two go one on one, likely at TakeOver, the chemistry is going to be there. It also set up Candice/Tegan, which is the likely next feud for them. Tegan delivered a technically illegal Shiniest Wizard (she wasn’t the legal tag member) to Candice, allowing Io to deliver her moonsault for the win. That gives Tegan a win after her failed championship attempt week’s back. Kai did not take the pin. And Candice will have an excuse for losing claiming “She cheated!” (They also tried to sell the idea that Dakota left LeRae high and dry, but it didn’t play that way.) This was a standard tag match that moved two feuds forward. The real intriguing happenings in the division was actually a backstage confrontation between Dakota and Rhea Ripley. The Nightmare took exception to Kai claiming she’s next in line for the belt, and that set up a number one contenders match for next week. I wondered in the preview how they’d get me to believe that Dakota actually has a chance against Io in a championship bout. Beating Ripley would do that. Needed Win Roderick Strong and Johnny Gargano had themselves quite the bout this week. This stemmed out of a backstage segment where they blamed each other for Bronson Reed winning the triple threat last week. In said triple threat, Strong and Gargano had a stretch where they wrestled the hell out of each other. So more of that this week was always going to be a plus. Because these men are so good, it didn’t matter it was heel vs. heel. They’re just really good wrestlers who struggled to outsmart the other. The announce booth added another level to the match, explaining both men really needed a win. Gargano hasn’t exactly been lighting the world on fire and the Undisputed ERA are struggling. In the end, it was Johnny who picked up the victory. That’s the right call. Undisputed’s loss led to their angle, which we’ll get to momentarily. But Gargano’s heel character needs to pick up more wins to stay viable. The Boys are Back in Town After Roddy’s loss, he, Adam Cole, and Bobby Fish were rather despondent backstage. What had happened to the great Undisputed ERA who used to run NXT? That’s when Kyle O’Reilly appeared to breathe some life into them. He delivered a pep talk which gave them the fire to attack Imperium later in the night, after the tag team defeated Ever-Rise (more like Always-Lose, amirite?). It was the ERA of old showing some dominance. If I had to guess, it’s not going to go that way. Undisputed has had their story about being the most dominant brand. It’s now time for their next story. Maybe a story where O’Reilly finds himself taking charge and Cole is on the outs. Maybe a face turn for a few or all of them. Wherever they decide to go, Kyle’s return means they can start going there. Undisputed was at a standstill with O’Reilly understandably staying home. Now that he’s opted to come back, they explore the next chapter of NXT’s premiere stable. All the Rest: - Mercedes Martinez, with Robert Stone and Aliyah in her corner, defeated Shotzi Blackheart. Mercedes took a beating early on but endured, and maybe even thrived on that. When she turned it on, she was just too much for Shotzi to handle. A good week for the Robert Stone Brand. - Isaiah “Swerve” Scott defeated Jake Atlas. This makes sense as they’re setting up Scott to face Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar given he has a win over him from the cruiserweight tournament. Meanwhile, Jake Atlas has been taking a lot of losses, but given he hasn’t really had a real story yet, he can do that for a little bit before they find something for him. But it can’t happen for too long. Another solid two hours of wrestling for the black and gold brand. |

Smackdown results reviews recaps and reactions Y’all…. that was a great ending. Earlier in the show, Bray appeared and said that he was out searching for Braun Strowman in the swamp, but he couldn’t find him. Regardless of whether he shows back up or not, part of his soul will always be trapped there. But now, He is waiting, and He wants something that Strowman has. Until He gets it, no one is safe. He being the Fiend, clearly So Bayley and Nikki Cross had themselves a SmackDown women’s championship match. To be honest, it was pretty lackluster. Nothing stuck out, nothing really changed from their last bout, only that instead of the Boss ring connecting and Cross eating a loss, she took it out of Bayley’s hand and threw it back at Sasha. Alexa tried encouraging her throughout, but Bayley won it with a headlock and then slamming Cross’s face to the mat. It felt a bit flat. After thye role models hit the bricks, Alexa got in the ring and tried to help Nikki up, but Nikki shoved her down and walked away. Then, He appeared. He slowly walked around Alexa and Alexa froze in fear. He knelt down, raised his hand (with the hurt glove) and shoved the Mandible Claw in her mouth and the lights went out to end the show. Talk about a swerve. Everyone had Nikki Cross turning on Alexa tonight, and they didn’t do it. Will it happen later on, I don’t know and frankly I don’t care because Alexa being used to draw out Braun from wherever he’s hiding was a perfect way to continue this feud. To be honest I’m not really excited to see it continue, but what else can WWE do right now? The Fiend vs. Braun Strowman at SummerSlam is the right way to go based off of the story’s natural progression. Let’s just make sure Goldberg isn’t around anymore, yeah? Jeff Hardy is moving on He gets on the mic and says he hasn’t felt this good in a long time. The last few months have been tough, with Sheamus a constant reminder of just how dangerous his demons are. He just has to remind himself how bad it can be, because sobriety is a never-ending challenge, and beating Sheamus was a reminder that he’s on the right path. Enter King Corbin, who got tired of Hardy’s speech and said he should shut up. Corbin said he feels like he’s losing his mind and his kingdom is turning into an insane asylum. Hardy said that if Corbin thinks everyone around him is a problem, it usually means you need to look in the mirror. As Corbin went down to confront him, Gulak attacked, which let to their match which we will be addressing below. Somehow, and I have always said this,King Corbin is really cool. Yeah I know! As for Jeff Hardy, there really wasn’t anything different coming out of him so I was kind of bored. If the Sheamus feud is indeed over, why can’t we move on from the Jeff Hardy is an alcoholic stuff? Let’s get him in a program with someone. I’ll take Corbin after this little exchange between them. Despicable Sonya Deville Otis and Mandy were walking backstage, and Mandy was letting Otis, and us, know of her surprise plans for Otis this evening. It included a BBQ place with ribs and steak, and a peachy desert with a cherry on top. TMI, guys. TMI. Mandy was in the back getting ready, and surprise Sonya Deville behind her! They brawled and Sonya smeared lipstick all over Mandy’s face. Then she cut her hair! She was about to buzz it off but the refs and returning Adam Pearce got to Sonya before she could do any more damage. I was missing this feud sooooo much, y’all. Immediately they brought it right back with this vicious and despicable Sonya. AJ Styles def. Gran Metalik - Metalik put up a really good fight. A decent effort one would even say. Styles has this really great quality about him where he cannot really have a bad match. (One or two Kevin Owens matches a few years back may have been his only real lackluster ones.) I liked the story with this one after rethinking it. I wanted Gable, but telling a nice underdog story with Metalik worked, as he performed well in the match. Now, will this go anywhere? That remains to be seen. After the match, Styles attacked poor Lince Dorado as he tended to his LuchaLit brother. He had a really interesting sell of it, too. Hey, let’s get Dorado vs. Styles next week! I’m down! Big E def. Miz - The slap heard ‘round the world that got Big E snapped into seriousness was a nice touch. E brought the hurt, until Morrison took advantage of the ref’s back being turned. The big story here that commentary was attempting to tell, while definitely untrue, was that Big E was a weak link in New Day. Nah, Corey. Nice try though. Morrison tried to take advantage again, but the ref caught him and ejected him. Big E ended up winning with a wicked Stretch Muffler submission. The win and the way E won was important here. The Big Ending is the New Day Big E finisher, or at least that’s what WWE wants us to think. He was really doing it before New Day, but alright I can let this slide. That Stretch Muffler looked real good, though. I am onboard with that being his new finisher. Build him up, WWE. Let’s get that Intercontinental feud going next week! King Corbin def. Drew Gulak - Gulak took Corbin to wrestling school throughout this bout. Corbin did his usual chinlocks but Gulak countered it into a LeBell lock. He went for a diving lariat but Corbin’s really great deep six connected. Riddle came out but Gulak couldn’t capitalize off of the distraction. Riddle started beating up Corbin and out of nowhere, out came Gable and he hit the suplex on Riddle! So before this all happened, earlier in the show, Gable was backstage watching Styles/Metalik and Corbin approached him. He said that they were always friends and he was always trying to encourage him. Corbin offered up the King’s Ransom and told him to think about it. It was actually a pretty great interaction as Gable wasn’t having any of it since Corbin was doing the “short” stuff. It wasn’t until the Ransom was mentioned that he started thinking about it. You know what? Sure. I’m not against this at all. If you think about it logistically, Corbin is offering up money to dudes to take another dude out. And who is he trying to encourage? Guys who aren’t on TV much, so that they have incentive to help him. I like it. It’s also something different for Gable. Naomi def. Lacey Evans - They brought a bit more ferocity to this one, but Naomi finally picked up a win. It’s definitely not over, though, and that just makes me shake my head. SmackDown surely ended with a really great moment. I’m immediately intrigued to see what happened with Alexa after being choked by the Fiend. As for Bayley, I couldn’t tell you who her SummerSlam opponent will be. If we had more time, maybe Naomi? Depending on what they do with Alexa, it could be her but I don’t know how you transition into a title match so quickly after this segment. I am… intrigued to see where we go with Corbin and Gable. Yeah, I’m still in shock. Naomi and Evans will continue and I’m not happy, it looked like Cesaro and Nakamura might be seeing more of Lucha House Party, and Big E needs to be hot-shotted into an IC title program pretty please! |

Raw recap reviews and reactions The first rule of Fight Club is - you do not talk about Fight Club. Someone should have told Shane McMahon that showing it on TV probably breaks the rules. Shane was… somewhere “underground” with a ropeless ring and female dancers. Bloodthirsty men surrounded said ring and two were fighting to start the introduction of Raw Underground. It’s Bloodsport, WWE style. WWE style meaning a bunch of camera cuts and zooms and replays that look exactly like the main show. I’d much rather see a completely different presentation to Underground if it stays for a while. The Viking Raiders, Dolph Ziggler, Babatunde (no longer called Babatunde), former Raw commentator Dio Maddin, and the Hurt Business all showed up and fought, and MVP seemingly took over as new management while Shane said they were allowed back. I get the feeling that this was a wild unpredictable thing to do to get ratings and WWE has no idea what they are doing with this. I am not a fan of the camera work for the WWE Fight Club, nor am I a fan of the dancers. There are better ways to do this. I’m willing to give it a second chance next week. Chosen ones Wow am I ready for this match at SummerSlam. Drew said Randy Orton has spent twenty years preying on vulnerability, and talks about how he’d rather slip in after a match and hit the RKO. At one time Vince McMahon himself looked them in the eye and told them they were the chosen one. He says he made mistakes and got fired for them, and he deserved to be fired, but Randy deserved to be fired way more and for much more. Orton interrupted and said he’s here every week because he loves it, and he appreciates it. He should have been fired over and over again, but he wasn’t. Drew was, because he’s not as valuable to this company. Drew talked about when he was self-destructing when his mother was sick, and a kind word from a guy like Randy might have been enough to pull him out. All he sees when he looks at Orton is a selfish prick. THIS is the type of feud that Drew has needed as champion. Absolutely incredible segment. The passion behind Drew’s words were what I enjoy out of a talking segment. Randy being self aware about his past was an even greater touch. This should be a good time leading up to their match. Reunited and it feels so good KO introduced Ruby Riott for his show and Ruby said she’s had bad luck since returning and the IIconics have been trying to dig at her for it. She finally got to shut Peyton Royce up and she said she wished that Liv was there with her. Owens surprised her, and us, with Liv Morgan! Owens told Liv that she should listen to Ruby because he’s had experience ruining friendships. Ruby said when she came back she thought everything would be the same, but everything was different, and she saw Liv thriving and thought maybe she didn’t need her, and that hurt. Then Liv beat her twice, and she saw she definitely didn’t need her, and she wasn’t ready for that. She apologized for taking it out on her and then the IIconics interrupted. They’re tired of Liv and Ruby and Ruby’s social media posts and said they’ve dominated the women’s tag scene. So we got ourselves an impromptu match that was super quick but drove home the point that Ruby is back in Liv’s good graces and I couldn’t be happier. The acting and storytelling in this segment was really well done. Owens did particularly well with his pep talk, trying to get Liv to understand friendships are hard to come by and he regrets stuff he’s done in his past. I am ready for a nice dominant Riott Squad run. At this point they’re one of the only women’s tag teams left standing. They definitely deserve a title match, and what better time than SummerSlam! (Those two slaps tho) Rollins accepts Dominik’s challenge - Seth came out to address Dominik Mysterio challenging him to a match at SummerSlam, but first wanted to address Tom Phillips cheering Dominik on as he beat both he and Murphy last week. He said his voice matters as the voice of Monday night Raw, and he’s part of the Greater Good whether he likes it or not. What he says is important because the people at home hear him, and it’s his job to call it down the middle. Seth ordered Murphy to take him from the desk, but Samoa Joe stood up and said that’s not going to happen and Seth needs to turn around and address Dominik or else he’ll take both men out. They got back in the ring and Dominik came from behind and attacked them, even did his daddy’s 619 to Seth and then dove off the top rope. Seth said he accepts the match. Joe was the highlight here. I miss seeing that man in the ring and he has such a great presence. As Dominik beat them up, Joe was hyped for it and it was a great moment. I hope this is a sign that Joe will be back in the ring soon, though I do enjoy him on commentary too! Poor Tom. He almost got his eye taken for not doing his job properly. Apollo Crews def. MVP - This was one of the best matches these two have had together. I appreciated the story both men were telling throughout the match. MVP’s promo calling out Apollo for not showing up after Lashley’s full nelson and Samoa Joe said that if he was at home and he saw a man with his rightful championship calling himself champion, he’d find him and confront him. Apollo had a great minute near the end of picking up the pace and going for multiple pin attempts. Apollo got the win with a nice Blue Thunder Driver. After the match Apollo was interviewed backstage and said he’d be putting the old US title on display in his kids’ room and thanked MVP for the new title. MVP got a mic and said Apollo stole a win because of the flickering lights and wants a rematch at SummerSlam. I didn’t expect to see another match between them but I’m betting that’s where Apollo loses. Knowing WWE’s booking history, it’ll happen. Sasha Banks vs. Shayna Baszler ends in a DQ - Shayna punched Sasha in the face earlier in the night and it could have just been left at that. It wasn’t a bad match, though. Shayna ragdolled Sasha around the ring. Asuka attacked Bayley and went into the ring to get Sasha but she escaped. Shayna disappeared and the match ended in DQ. Don’t know why since the bell rang after Asuka attacked Bayley, who wasn’t in the match. This could have easily been Sasha and Bayley coming out to talk down about Shayna for her attack and Asuka runs out and tries to get both of them. Same outcome without a match that didn’t matter between two women who have never faced each other. Asuka wants a rematch at SummerSlam - After that… match… Asuka said Kairi will be okay but she’s not there anymore, but she, Sasha, and Bayley are. She wants a rematch for the Raw women’s championship. Shayna got back in the ring and said she’s rooting for Asuka because when she takes the title back, she’ll be first in line to take it for herself. Sasha came back out and said that if Asuka wants a rematch, she needs to defeat Bayley next week on Raw. So we’re back to the teasing a turn between the role models. Since the match is Bayley vs. Asuka I don’t understand why they don’t do it on SmackDown. Garza def. Dawkins / Andrade vs. Ford ends in ref stoppage- I’m putting these together because the matches were not the focus. Dawkins lost against Garza because Tez suddenly collapsed at ringside and Garza took advantage of a concerned Dawkins. So after the break we saw Ford in the ring and it seemed like he was okay. He certainly was good enough to be a crazy high flyer but collapsed again and the ref stopped the match. Later, Dawkins revealed that Tez was poisoned and Bianca Belair accused and attacked Zelina Vega. So it looks like total chaos on this show and I have no idea who’s in charge. Akira Tozawa won the 24/7 title back - There was a triple threat for the 24/7 title with Shelton, Truth, and Tozawa and the ninjas got involved and distracted Shelton enough to pin Truth and win back the title. Nia Jax is suspended - Nia came out to “apologize to WWE official Pat Buck. She really just came out to talk shit and try and get Pat to fight her in a match. He wasn’t having any of it and suspended her indefinitely without pay. She headbutted him and walked off. I don’t really have an opinion for this. Just seems like something to give Nia an… edge? An edge she doesn’t need. WWE teased this big faction for the show that ended up being some dudes dressed up like the ninjas throwing a molotov cocktail at the Performance Center’s power grid. Then they weren’t shown again. I have no idea what this show was, but some of it was good. Random unpredictable stuff like tonight irks me, because WWE has a formula and they don’t tend to break it, so them doing stuff like this is usually to pop a rating. I’m 100% certain that whenever they drop this, WWE will pretend Underground never existed. Grade: B |

WWE NXT reviews recaps and reactions Long Version Pat McAfee is a major a-hole. The dude is a natural heel and now is playing one on NXT TV. With Pat playing the antagonist to Adam Cole, this will also serve as Cole’s inevitable babyface turn. This chapter of their story went down during the main event of the night, with Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish facing off against Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner for the NXT tag team championships. Prior to this, Cole snapped on Pat during his radio show after Pat insulted his height amongst other things. They apparently buried the hatchet prior to this week’s show, but McAfee on commentary wouldn’t stop mocking Cole, who was at ringside to support his boys. It was so bad that it drove Beth Phoenix off commentary, which seemed a bit excessive but definitely let us know who the heel was here. Adam heard his barbs and confronted him, telling him to cool it. When Pat wouldn’t stop, Cole tossed some water in his face. That amped things to the point they had to be held apart as McAfee continued to mock the size of the former NXT champ. All of this overshadowed the actual main event, which ended in an Undisputed loss when Cole’s beef with McAfee proved too distracting. That’s obviously a shame given how good tag team wrestling is in NXT. But it was also by design. Because while the immediate story is about turning Cole face and running a program with the naturally obnoxious McAfee, the biggest story is likely what comes after. And that’s Cole’s fracture with Undisputed. After the former punter delivered a stiff kick to the exposed head of Cole (who was being held back but reaching over the announce desk), knocking Adam out, none of the Undisputed guys stuck around to check on him. Adam’s focus on McAfee cost his boys the match and his continued feud with him with likely steal the spotlight from the rest and divert his attention from the group. Meanwhile, Kyle O’Reilly just returned in a way that feels like he is going to slot into the leadership role. The longer play isn’t Cole vs. McAfee but probably Cole vs. Kyle O’Reilly and the rest of the ERA. That’s why I appreciated this main event angle. Yes, McAfee is a really good heel and they did a good job starting to turn Cole. But the way it overshadowed the others is going to prove the bigger issue down the road, setting us up for a longer, more fruitful feud than a one time celebrity angle. Lucky Win NXT’s booking of Dakota Kai continues to confuse me. The result of her match with Rhea Ripley for the right to face Io Shirai for the NXT Women’s title was correct. Dakota needed to pick up the win. But they didn’t do it in a way that makes her a believable threat to Io Shirai. And that was an important aspect of this match. To put it bluntly, Kai got her ass kicked. Rhea Ripley was dominating a good 90% of the match. That itself isn’t an issue. Ripley is a powerhouse and should be presented as such. But if Dakota is to be a believable effective heel, she needs to come up with an answer for that from her bag of tricks. But she didn’t. Instead, she had to show babyface pluck by continuing to kick out of moves that should have put her away. And when she finally got help, it wasn’t help that she choreographed. Instead, Mercedes Martinez attacked Ripley, perhaps getting some revenge for Robert Stone who looked the fool at the hands of Rhea. And that’s all well and good. That’s a feud I’m greatly looking forward to because of the caliber of both women and the fact this is an extension of Ripley’s comedy feud with Stone. However it leaves Dakota lucking into her title match. That’s not the position you want her in. If she needs luck to beat Ripley, what chance does she have against another superior athlete in Io? You can’t expect her to luck out again. Normally, Kai has Raquel González by her side. That’s the formula that’s gotten Dakota to this point. But Raquel has been MIA. Maybe she’s hurt. Maybe it’s COVID related (and that could just be opting to stay away to be safe). But either way, Dakota needs to be a proactively successful heel for anyone to believe she has a chance against Shirai, not an accidentally successful one. Body Count Karrion Kross doesn’t play by the rules. Last week, General Manager William Regal was not having Kross and Keith Lee setting up their own title match. This is Regal’s promotion, and he makes the matches. Normally, that would lead to a #1 contender’s match. Kross would get his opportunity there, win it, and then go to face Lee at TakeOver. But Kross is chaos personified. Rules don’t apply to him. Something maybe William Regal didn’t understand the magnitude of. Instead of playing be those rules, Karrion attacked the locker room, laying out at least three men to send a message to the champ. He’ll keep dropping bodies until Keith gets him the title match they both want. The way Kross flips the entire system on its head portrays him as a dangerous man. I’ve been a big fan how they portray Karrion since the beginning and that continued this week. No Surprises Damian Priest’s victory in the TakeOver ladder match qualifier this week was a no doubter. He’s been a featured man on NXT TV. Oney Lorcan has never been a successful singles athlete. And Ridge Holland hasn’t even been on Wednesday night before this. So this was always Priest’s match to win. Because this was a debut for Holland, NXT made sure to showcase the former rugby player in a way that served his future even in a loss. Any they did a good job of that. He was a powerhouse to be reckoned with, with thighs the size of tree trunks. Seriously, the man was a brick s***house. Oney Lorcan helped hold the match together with his style working well with everyone. Hopefully, he gets a legit singles run in the future, one that’s more than just helping elevate others. Priest was always going to be the winner and right now, that’s the correct choice. He has really turned his loss to Finn Bálor into babyface momentum. In fact, the Archer of Infamy has to be a favorite to win the whole thing. Mission Statement El Legado Del Fantasma are now targeting Breezango. Their reasoning is two-fold. First is because Tyler Breeze and Fandango helped Drake Maverick in his feud with them weeks back. The second has to do with their mission statement: To prove that lucha libre is an art, now just flashy flips. Santos Escobar feels Breezango mocked lucha culture, and this was the answer to that. I’ve appreciated El Legado’s purpose. Their mission to bring respect to lucha libre, something that is in Escobar’s blood, makes sense. But they’ve perverted it to suit their needs. It’s classic heel work and done really well. While Isaiah “Swerve” Scott is destined for a cruiserweight title shot, I hope Tyler Breeze gets one as well. Other Happenings: - Thicc Boi Bronson Reed defeated Shane Thorne in a match meant to showcase the big man. And it did that. It also reminded me that Shane Thorne is a good wrestler, and I wish they gave his prior singles attempt a bit more time before dropping it. - Tegan Nox defeated Indi Hartwell, building her up a bit for her eventual feud with Candice LeRae. A solid episode this week. I enjoyed the final angle and all Karrion Kross bits at this point. I still don’t get their booking of Dakota Kai. |

WWE Raw results reviews and reactions Randy Orton. You monster. First he had a match with Kevin Owens, and it was pretty good. Randy raked KO’s eyes and gave him the ol’ Samir Singh bomb on the announce table and the camera work made it look like Owens’ head hit one of the monitors. Owens and Orton traded chops and uppercuts, and there was a cannonball to the floor! Orton gouged the eyes again in a reverse chinlock and Orton ducked a stunner but put Owens away with that RKO. So, Orton asked Ric to stick around for a celebration after the match, and then it got real. Orton said he has every right to be upset with Flair, but he just can’t be angry at him. He can’t find it in his heart, but he’s got every right to be pissed, because he should never have had this match against KO, and he only got into it in the first place because of Ric’s ego. He learned so much from Flair and for the past 20 years he’s had his back and taught him everything he knows. He was there when Orton got into a lot of trouble back in 2003. Flair bailed him out and he respected him and loved him. But he doesn’t love or respect him anymore, because he’s a liability to him. At SummerSlam he’s got the opportunity to take the WWE Championship for the 14th time, and that’s all he should be concerned with, but instead he was worried about himself. Flair took the mic and agreed that he is no longer the Ric Flair everyone knew 20 years ago. And yes, he does love the spotlight, because he’s a 71 year old man and he’s having the time of his life. He just wants to be there for Orton and be Charlotte’s dad. Orton hugged him and you could see the look on Flair’s face - he knew what was coming. Orton low blowed him and cradled him in his arms. He let him down gently and the lights started flickering, and on the second or third flicker, Orton punted Flair in darkness. It was a great way to “punt” a 71 year old man with a pacemaker and should never take a bump again. It was one of the best promos out of Ric Flair in the past 10 years at least. Drew came out and Orton slid out of the ring. He called Orton what he is - an evil son of a bitch. And the show ended with both men staring bullets into each other. I cannot wait for this match at SummerSlam. That was uncomfortable Everyone played their roles perfectly which is a great way to start Dominik Mysterio’s WWE career. I have missed Samoa Joe promos so so very much, and he ran Seth down and started the show hot, even if it didn’t start the way it should have. Joe said he should be seeing Seth Freakin’ Rollins, possibly the greatest superstar of his generation, and instead he sees a man who got all caught up in his feelings after the WWE Universe booed him a few times. Seth’s retort was that he had to become who he’s become because he was forced to. He asked when it will be enough? Dom said it’ll never be enough and it’s his new dream to kick his ass at SummerSlam. The contract was signed, and Dominik Mysterio officially became a WWE superstar. After Rollins made quick work of Humberto Carrillo, he and Murphy took a good 5 minutes beating the shit out of Dom with kendo sticks. Beating. The shit. Out of him. What a way to earn your spot, huh? Seth is a confirmed bastard after this segment. Dominik had some good talking and sorry I just saw the photos of the aftermath and OW! Ow. Go look at that if you’re interested. It’s not for the easily queasy folks. The biggest thing to come out of this is that weapons will be allowed in the SummerSlam match. So Seth should be looking out for the receipt. RETRIBUTION are petulant children RETRIBUTION has sucked so far. Last Friday they attacked some people and chainsawed the ring ropes and chased people out. On Raw tonight, no one mentioned them for the first 25 minutes of the show. It was as if they didn’t exist. How am I supposed to take this group seriously? They were shown putting two cinderblocks through one window, when a bunch of windows were right next to it, and threw up their arms cheering and ran away. Then a car was shown flipped over and they were kicking it, cheered themselves on, and ran away, like children. How am I supposed to take this group seriously? They didn’t even appear in the building at all. There was no additional security, no groups of people going out to find them, no fanfare. Nothing. All it has been, as I mentioned on Friday, are reminders of what is going on in the world in the eyes of Fox News viewers - window breaking, car destroying, weapon wielding anarchists with no purpose but to do exactly that. It’s stupid and it doesn’t look like it will play out well. Long term storytelling and letting things play out have never been WWE’s strengths. Rowan’s mystery cage, Superstar Shakeup, Wildcard, 10 PM dark Raw, and NXT call ups are just some examples of the past 2 years of stuff like this. So with all of that, I ask again, how am I supposed to take this group seriously? Asuka def. Bayley - This right here was a MOTY contender. Asuka should be the sole proprietor of the hip attack. She did a german suplex and a running hip attack, Bayley did an ankle lock and both she and Sasha while the ref wasn’t looking tried wearing that leg down. An indian deathlock transitioned into a kneebar, and later in the match Bayley did a great sunset flip powerbomb that sent Asuka into the turnbuckles. But after it was all said and done, Asuka made Bayley tap out. Sasha was real mad and got in the ring clutching her Raw women’s title. I really enjoyed this match, very much the match of the night for me. Had a ground and pound feel and felt like a blood feud, thanks to Bayley mocking Kairi Sane towards the end. How does Sasha address this loss? I’m excited to find out! Angelo Dawkins def. Andrade / Bianca Belair def. Zelina Vega - Dawkins really great overhead suplex and would have pinned Andrade successfully if Zelina didn’t distract the ref, but Bianca ran out and attacked her so Dawkins could get the victory with a nice spinebuster. Vega should wrestle more, because she’s actually good. She had a nice triangle chokehold and utilized an Andrade move with the double knees. Bianca brought the ferocity and ragdolled Vega around. Kiss of Death wins it for her. I really enjoy these two women together. They have some really good chemistry, even though there were a few hiccups. After the match, Dawkins said that Montez will be good enough in two weeks for the pay-per-view. So they’re making us think that Zelina did it, but I had a sudden scary thought that they’re doing another Enzo and Cass. Please, no. Sure it wouldn’t make sense since they are tag champions, but Dean and Seth were tag champs when Dean turned sooo… By the way, Bianca Belair invaded a Twitch stream of Zelina Vega’s over the weekend and it looked amazing, so please seek that out. Apollo Crews is a bad man / Shelton Benjamin def. Apollo Crews - MVP, Lashley, and Benjamin were out and he asked how he’s supposed to win championships in these unsafe working conditions. Apollo Crews never beat him, the lights beat him. Apollo came out and says MVP is always making excuses for his losses and that he must be hurting to see this title that he paid for on his shoulder instead. MVP said he’s stupid to come out alone, and Apollo answered saying he’s allowed to make stupid decisions because he’s a bad man. Apollo tossed a whole couch at them! Crews used being tossed into the ropes to his advantage and LAUNCHED himself at Shelton. He did the standing moonsault so effortlessly to a close two count. Lashley tried to grab Crews legs and Shelton took advantage and won the match. Lashley tried to lock the full nelson in but MVP told him to let Crews go, because he needs him healthy for SummerSlam. Crews thanked him by kicking him in the head and getting the hell out of dodge. Apollo had an extra dose of aggression and I really enjoyed him on this show. They’re giving him more talking time and character work. Fly Boys and The Viking Raiders def. Akira Tozawa and ninjas - This match happened. After it happened, ninja R-Truth pinned Tozawa for the 24/7 title. I completely forgot that Tozawa was the champion. Peyton Royce def. Liv Morgan - And we’re already back to the greatest booking (the worst booking), 50/50’ing! One week after reuniting, Liv Morgan gets beat off of a “distraction” by Ruby Riott. Would like to see a women’s tag team get some wins and a tag team but I guess we have to play this game continuously. Raw Underground - Dabba-Kato (Babatunde), Riddick Moss, and Arturo Ruas were all featured on Raw Underground. None of them really mattered though because the REAL star of Underground came at the end. Shayna Baszler Shayna got in the ring when Dabba-Kato was in and maaaan did I wish those two went at it, but of course Shayna just went after the women around the rope-less ring and they tried to fight back, but Shayna beat them all. WWE. The f***ing camera cuts. STOOOOP. At least they got rid of the dancers. Progress? Raw was a mixed bag for me. It had a fantastic match with Bayley and Asuka, and some downright dumb shit like these Retribution videos. Raw Underground was heightened with Shayna’s appearance and she needs to school those boys on how to shoot fight. C’mon, WWE. I wonder what shocking things Retribution will be doing on Friday, since they skip NXT. Why cause anarchy there? |
