the problem is those with assistantship... Will their funding still be intact because not all schools are saying same thing with this regard...I think the best is to discuss with the department and graduate school to find a buffer and common ground that will benefit both parties...some uni accept differing to spring and ensures that your funding is intact some don't give that option but requesting you enter the pool again...these pandemic created a scenario that many schools are foreign to

Now's the time to start writing passionate emails to schools sha, especially those with significant funding.

Lol.. No be small matter o
Let's wait for spring to come first, but I'd suggest we stay away from any step that will affect one's chances for a CPT/OPT.
Lets be hopeful towards a valid spring, if anything goes wrong again, we'll endure till fall. We'll tough it out until we reach the goal.

My major concern is if embassies don't reopen in time for new students to be in the US by Spring 2021 after taking online courses this Fall, will one still be eligible for CPT/OPT? Any thoughts on this??

If you are a new student, you wouldn't be eligible if you take online courses this year, however if you are an ongoing student, this fall semester would be counted towards CPT/OPT irrespective of which part of the world you are taking your online classes.

New students are not eligible because they haven't gained an F1 status yet

Hence, new (incoming) students that are starting virtually this fall won't be eligible for OPT et al, unless if the rules change. If I remember you have to be physically present in the US for about 9 months or so before you can be eligible for OPT; this implies resuming in the fall.

this is a rule I believe would still be challenged. Whether the student will win or not is what I don't know. Because imagine those guys from first world countries paying $50k for tuition in different schools and you're saying they're not eligible for OPT for Corona that's entirely not their fault. This is a rule that can change anytime, more so with the hopeful change of power in November (God abeg)

Regardless, for Grad students. Deferring would be better if that option is available. Because as it stands that's the rule and that's what we should work with.

And for clarification abeg.. this OPT stuff, is it that the person would not be eligible for this coming Summer's internship opportunity or won't be eligible for post graduation work OPT?

The thing is that those from first world countries are not as desperate as we are. They can easily get prestige high-paying jobs in their countries. It's only those of us from shitholes that would bear the brunt. I believe it's the next summer OPT (2021) that would be affected.

It quite obvious why Nigeria haven't progressed much as a society ...... very quick to insult, attack and name calling .

I am never going to be brought to a level of name calling . To anyone who wants to engage in all that , go ahead .

You guys should calm down with the insults. Tensions are high now but when the embassy finally open and you need help with interviews...you will still need all these “gurus” help. Glean what you can from the thread and jump the negative energy.

A potential 1500 SAT score student does not think in this way.

Firstly, the SAT is not an exam that "whether I read or not, I will pass excellently." To put things in perspective, I started out with an 1100+ straight out of secondary school with a fresh brain and moved it to a 1500+ after a year solely preparing for the SAT. My jamb score reduced somewhat significantly during this period.

Secondly, it clearly seems that you are not a genuine student. If you understand the elaborate documentation that goes into scholarships, financial aid, visas and maintaining f1 status, you'd know that what you're looking for is a dead end.

Don't use yourself to compare others.
you see that maths I won't fail a question and it won't take me up to 70% of the time allocated to it. , only the English aspect that might reduce my mark.
It was difficult for you does not mean it will be difficult for others.

And what is fresh about a secondary school brain??.
Make your point without dragging someone down.

you're very funny. Wit alone would not make you ace SAT. Only Adequate preparation would make you ace it. You have to be familiar with their pattern and you have to learn time management.

If you write the exam exactly the way you're saying now, you won't get up to 1200.

I have prepared students for this exam, I see no big deal in it. I am surprised at the way you guys glorify the exam here.
Normal ssce questions but you just need some tactics to save time.
That's all.

I was just asking if it is can enable someone work in the US , which someone has already given me an answer to it.

Passing the exam is no big deal,

Did you pay money for the summer class ?...

If you haven't gotten a visa, servis and all.. I think you can still switch . What you might lose is the money spent on the summer course (if you paid) . But then depending on what the two program is , maybe you can transfer the credit . Even after visa people can still switch some programs

Your starting point will be to speak to the school and hear directly from them what is the implication if you withdraw from the program

Hello Guys, i got admission to a school in the United States for fall 2020. i was expecting my i20 before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now my school is giving me the opportunity for a VIrtual Learning then i can transit when the pandemic is over or Defer the admission till next year.
Please i need your advice on the best decision to take at the moment.

All suggestions are welcome.

Seems the pandemic is here to stay and won’t leave anytime soon. However, we can have some reasonable level of control when significant number of people get vaccinated.

jayzen:
This is indeed a sad situation but not hopeless. Let's just hope spring becomes feasible otherwise we all enter admission and assistantship pool again since deferment can only be done once.

There’s a strong chance of having safe “vaccines” before the end of October.

Russia to approve one on August 10, tho no data has been released about its safety. Their scientists say it’s safe and that data from the trials will be released upon approval.

Meanwhile, our prayer is with the United States scientists as US is the most generous country that can subsidize these vaccines to poor regions.

Bros, is this applicable to GRE also? If yes is your answer then you might want to reconsider your position.

I’ve seen two people, my sibling and a friend-he’s also on Nairaland here grin that sat for the exam with less than 3 weeks prep.

Both of them are Maths savvy. They didn’t have to even get familiar with GRE Quant patterns.

Both answer Quant questions as tho they set the Question grin grin

The amazing part to me is that they answer even the most challenging questions on GRE mentally (without writing anything down) grin grin

And yes 160+ grin in Quant , you know how far that can augment low Verbal score

As short as the time seems one even scored above 150 in Verbal.

We all know our strengths. Stay safe bro!

don't try ECE, they will suck your GPA. Unless you don't need a high GPA for the admission and or scholarship.

That was how I wasted 90K to do evaluation. WES gave me 3.1 using their calculator, ECE gave me 2.5.

The thing about ECE is just that it's fast, everything was done within a week.

If you don't really need the GPA and your WAEC grades are high. You can use it.

Thank you for this information but what are my options without ECE

You can try ECE for your evaluation. Send all documents with it. ECE only need WAEC scratchcard and your details.
