I'm not an authority tho, but I think they don't really follow this HATCOS fully. Coz they're cases where officers are promoted before due or some spending several years in a particular position.
As from Major upwards, it's strictly political coz several factors comes to play. I'm sure some would understand what I'm saying.

The image attached shows the maximum number of age one can stay in a particular rank or else it's retirement.

I think you'd be forced to retire. It's called "run out of service" or something like that

From my own little understanding and interaction with friends in our lords business, like the SSC 44 guys its most likely gonna be 2 whole years b4 they become full LT. Major to Lt. Col is now 6years I know a mentor who was affected by this. Lt. to Capt. na confirm 5years. Where problem dey especially for DSSC na From Capt to Major. SSC and RC guys is normal 5years except on special promotion or failure of promotion exam. But for DSSC, conversion to DRC is where it gets tricky. this conversion is not automatic, it's based on availability, it becomes difficult for a normal DSSC officer to convert easily especially when you have lot of doctors from their state. The doctors usually gets the upper hand and are attended to first and this is where inside politics also takes place. So ordinarily if you don't converted to DRC as a DSSC Captain, your promotion to Major is affected and the longer you stay there the closer your normal age and years on rank catches up with you. that's why you see some DSSC officers are still captain for 6 to 7years and probably they also have a bad PER from their Superiors (CO's and Commanders).

But for SSC guys even tho it's still based on availability, its very easy to convert to RC as compared to their DSSC (to DRC) guys because they are combatants, they don't have doctors and are readily needed to command different areas.

If I remember correctly, I think DSSC has like 2 abi 3 shots at conversion to DRC.

You are right.. 2nd Lieutenant to lieutenant promotion is 2 years and 5 years for captain... the luckiest Dssc guys will make colonel and might not make it further ... there’s even one captain in my area.. he was dropped as a captain and he answers captain everywhere...he’s not so well to do.. but before LT Buba died, he told me that it’s very easy for Ssc guys to convert now... pass your exams and have served in NE at some point, you’d be considered as long as you pass the requirements for conversion..and you can start trying your conversation when you hit the rank of Lieutenant..just like you have 3 trials to pass exams, you also have 3 trials to convert..
I’m not sure Dssc writes promotion exams so if they are spending longer on a rank, means the system was decided to affect them kinda.. I know a Dssc medical doctor that’s a lieutenant colonel now... never had issues.. rented a big house for his wife and daughter in Abuja..

DSSC do not write exams for Promotion, they're judged based on their PER (Performance Evaluation Report) but for them to convert I think they write exams or also go for a kind of exam trials.

So as a DSSC you will need to be watchful how many of your state and zone coursemates are Doctors, how many doctors are your direct seniors and direct juniors from same state. If dem many na to start to pull godfather strings ooo.

As a Lt. Col Medical officer, you can be the commander of a DMSH sef, even some majors and Captain Doctors dey be CO or acting Commander of some Brigade or Battalion MRS.

Moreover hope you know medical personnels both Officers and NCO's usually have a special or different salary incentives than other Corps. A Corporal Nurse can be earning as high as a Staff Sergeant or WO in otger Corps. Even a WO Nurse can Earn as high as a Captain if not more. grin grin na only Finance Corps personnel dey rival their pay, If you know you know

Them no know say medicine dey somehow easy for some people just that you need extra discipline and patience and some people have it in quantum. Most things in medicine are cram work except the psychiatric, paediatric and some other practical oriented sides.

Loving the Armed Forces or taking a shot at it is relative from one individual to another and you and I don't have access to a large sample of doctors to make a unanimous decision so let's leave at that, we are only privy to our little sample space, reason why I said those not willing or having the means to relocate out of the country.

Gone are those days where Drs usually graduate at a very old age, for the past 5-7yrs, judging using my Alma mater which is a Federal school. Medical graduates are quite young, in same age bracket with their engineering, law counterparts and I believe it's relatively same across several uni in the country.

Sir, when I mentioned passion, discipline patience first before small brain, I know what I am talking about. I have sieen so many super intelligent guys dropped out of med school (not because of financial reasons or ill health oo) and the OK guys graduate successfully and become good practitioners.

Irrespective of whatsoever their curriculum is, it's the same patience, discipline, dedication and small brain that would make you successful across every course discipline. With all due respect to the Medical Field, excluding the small periodic tests in the Med school, their Major Exam is the Junior MBBS at say year 4 and the main MBBS exam plus the Pathology and Pharmacology exams then Clinicals, these are mainly the exams where a particular score or grade is allotted a pass mark. Don't you think same is applicable is some specific courses and discipline?

P. S
Don't just conclude using what you may have experienced.

Take yourself as a case study grin if you couldn't complete medical school say you failed, when you are taken to a different location with the right motivation, enabling environment and little effort from your end you will make a good doctor grin

Hope you're having a great Sunday?
