If the priest was aggrieved, which is understandable, the best thing he would have done is summon the husband or hand the lady over to law enforcements. Her might be kleptomania or just sheer hunger. Regardless, she was wrong but the priest had no rights beating her.

She is a married woman, which he should have considered. Heaven forbid it, if I were the husband to that lady (God forbid), I'll pursue a case here and see that the priest is punished for his reckless action.

Tithing was an Old Testament practice to feed the priests from the tribe Levi God assigned to serve in the Temple as they were the only one that had no inheritance from the 12 tribes.

The practice died in the Old Testament and was never preached in the NT because the tribes were scattered already and had mixed with other nations. Jesus taught on every topic bothering in faith, everyday living, down to paying taxes, but not on tithing. Your pastor knows this but he can't tell you.

Why would any sane person steal in the church for Christ's sake? The church in its wisdom has already established "St Vicent the Paul" to cater for the needy. You can meet them with a number of your problems. They will try their best to assist.

Again, she can meet the priest to see how he can assist financially. He can present a problem in the church for general collection as in the culture of the catholic church. Why steal people's offering?

I wish the catholic priest never uploaded it on social media. It is unpriestly to do that. I believe he got angry for numerous similar stealing in the past. But as a priest, he should learn to have control of his anger. May God continue to comfort our priests everywhere in the world. It is not easy to be a priest at all.

What would Jesus do in this situation? Arguably, this woman acted out of desperation and the priest desperately showed his anger. The money in the box is called offertory and the sole purpose, traditionally, is to give it to the poor and the needy. Maybe these days priests line their pockets with the offertory, who knows.

She's poor. And as a former catholic I can tell you that these guys make huge money of their herd, the Pope rides in bullet proof cars and teaches about God's supposed protection, priests eat like kings while the poor starve to death.
