These railways lines are economically unviable and cannot even earn the money to repay the loans taken to build them! They had to double the prices of tickets on the Abuja to Kaduna line to try to break even...

Same goes for connecting other commercial centers across the country to the ports and target markets and not building a railway line from Abuja to Kaduna with beautiful stations everywhere!! Good points. Attention should be given to commercial hubs. I'd like to see train links between industrial hubs in SW and SE - Aba-Ogun-Lagos, PH-Nnewi-Lagos, etc. I can't see the strategic thinking behind the Warri-Ajaokuta link, for instance. But I disagree with you that passenger trains aren't important. With our huge population, passenger trains will repay loans as long as they're well managed. Abuja-Kaduna is always overbooked. Lagos-Ibadan will be the same.

Were they not frustrated for 16years despite their heavy support for PDP?

Why did they not find their voices of lamentation then? Why now?

The funny thing is that PMB has them covered in the rail plan but will be on a priority basis.

Lagos was focal due to population and economic input and same applies for the south west corridor all the way to the north where agriculture is king.

Big plus and a much needed project. It is only unfortunate that it may be arriving somewhat late and well overpriced.

Remember it was actually Obasanjo, on his way out, that commissioned the kick-off for this rail project. But my main grouse has always been, why we are often fixated on few projects and we are usually slow in executing/implementing.
Why spend 20 years on a single project, when you can spend same amount of time on multiple.

Nigeria is so underdeveloped that, even if we declare a true state of emergency in all sectors, it will take us not less than 50 years to catch up to an average 2nd world country. I say that with a lot of hope and optimism, others might disagree.

Thanks for reminding me that OBJ started the project. Nothing much happened thereafter until the YarAdua/GEJ era though.

True that we have a long way to go. If we avoid wasteful spending and focus on major infrastructural projects, we'll move at a much faster pace. Over pricing is a key issue too. May God open our eyes to do the needful soonest.

Enough of this nonsense, please! As Nigerians we all should be glad of the radical changes in our nation's train sector because it is a step in the right direction. The next radical change we need is in the area of electricity- affordable and constant. May we get our priorities right in Nigeria.

Sister, unfortunately I do not share the God part of your narrative. God has given us all that he can ever give us in terms of resources both material and human.

Infact I can imagine God being tired of us Nigerians simply because we do not wish to act yet we expect some type of meaningful change.

Me I have said it more than once, we all must act together and speak with one voice. But seeing as that is not possible, I have said it before that this madness you witness in our polity will never stop because the people do not have a means to hold their leadership accountable. So if Nigeria as is currently constituted is not working, will it not be best to split the bleeping thing let each go his/her own separate way. Atleast maybe some sanity will prevail in respect domains rather than this collective madness on crass display.
