Do what you want to do. Yes, law is an excellent degree & profession to follow. Many of my family have followed that path. It gives you options not only in Nigeria but all around the world. If you were your age now and had NO direction in your life, if I was your parent I would push you to do law.
BUT, you seem like you ALREADY have a great and successful career and things you are more passionate about. So you are not just laying about, doing nothing, wasting time. You are already successful, already on a good path. So there is no point in the parents trying to push you off this path. It is already going well. Keep going, in your direction !!! I was actually forced to put law on my writing of jamb, and today I am glad I was forced.

Go ahead for the law study, you will not regret. You will find the course interesting as you progress the echelon. Plus, you will develop a lot of boldness; and knowing your rights.

If it pleases you, go ahead with the law study. Even some medical doctors, and other professionals, come back to study law.

I'm highly disappointed in you, how will you be working in court and you want to study something contrary.

Do you know the numbers of graduates out there without job? But with law degree you can achieve alot without stress. Imagine going into a profession without any help/connection in this era of economy, 80% of people that are unemployed didn't have ladder to success even after studying there dream course. In fact the passion will vanish after years of NYSC and still no where to manage

Thank God you made the best choice law, do we have economist in Nigeria and in an era when a bank will close down a whole branch

I am enjoying the practice now but I know if I had followed my parents advice to study something Computer based, I would have been at a very great point in my career compared to where i am now as a lawyer.

No problem bro. Gone are the days when any degree has respect and a job is there waiting. Law is a regulated profession both locally and internationally. Only a regulated degree has any value today.

When you study Law you are guaranteed a job as a Solicitor or Lawyer because Law is a regulated profession. But if a degree is not a regulated degree an employer can employ anyone they like with any kind of degree or without a degree.

So please listen to your parents as Law is one of the best regulated professions to study and also you have a good heads up as you are already working in a State High Court.

I don finish Law School, so, i'm in a very good place to tell someone that is not interested in law, not to waste their time. Even from Externship, wetin my eye see, convince me say, e no pure.

I for use the money go study French or Portuguese if say I fit, but wetin carry me go Law School deep. If na something wey I fit waka from, I for waka.

Computer Science is definitely a better course of study in this day, in this country.

You're enjoying practice because you have family members in the bar and bench, but computer science has a far reach.

The end result is to make money! right now, think of what you are passionate more to acheiving that result. your parents wont be there forever.

This is the plain truth. I went for a software developer interview with a guy with a CS degree I have no degree in CS but cuz I had more skills than the guy he was jettisoned and I was favoured.

The plain truth is that as the hiring manager does an not have a Computer Science degree, the hiring manager has no idea that an applicant with a Computer Science degree understands the fundamentals but may not have experience with a specific tool a company uses and by just focusing on a specific tool, they’ve potentially weeded out a strong candidate with a Computer Science degree that can quickly come up to speed.

If you leave Nigeria and enter Seme, your law degree cannot do anything if you don't go to law school in those other countries. So, a certified Nigerian lawyer and a computer science graduate will probably end up in law school together, in some countries.

How about starting up a practice? You think you can just start up a practice in Nigeria because you have a degree? How many people on the average, are looking for lawyers, in this country? If you leave Lagos and Abuja, law practice is on life support in most parts of the country, that's why you'll see someone paying a lawyer 20k per month, you can make four times that amount, from building a website as a computer scientist.

Nowadays primary school kids can create a website. Programming jobs all over the world are dominated by those without a degree in Computer Science because it's not regulated like Law or the other regulated professions. How would you feel having a degree in Computer Science and it is some with only secondary school education or someone without a degree in Computer Science that is interviewing you for a programming job and you will have to report and work under such a person if you are lucky to get the job, then you will face a lot of bias from such a person as they will force you to leave the job. This will never happen if you have a Law degree and you are applying for a job in Law or working as a Lawyer or Solicitor.

The assumption most people have is that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

Yes but not as in when you actually study it.
Who says Law will not bring you money. It does. I am a lawyer and I make lots of money from it. I had to sponsor myself to read Law as a second degree.

Law as a second degree is good, at least you had a first and I'm sure it was instrumental in the money you are currently making from law.

I don't know a lot of people practicing the law to begin with, even less making any money from it, especially if there is no foundation.

The future is very discouraging for many. The likes of you are very few, in comparison to those who have diversified into other career paths.

After reading through comments, i must confess that i've learnt a lot from u guys and i appreciate ur concerns.

I actually do read law related books due to my closeness with my judge and she takes me like her son and do give me her books to read during my spare time.

I will settle for law due to it merits.

Hopefully i gain admission next yr or i will use direct entry.

I personally know more than 10 barristers who graduated years ago yet still roaming the street. Some ended up as tailors and seamstress, some opened provision shops..

I personally know more than 8 persons who are LIS graduates and are gainfully employed in government and private libraries and museums Today..

if you want to study accounting go for it if u know what your doing u will make it well in that course don't let Ur parents to confuse u or u will regret it later
