It is based on self fulfillment. Anyone who enters a relationship and can’t mentioned how things have changed for him/her or how his/her life has improved since being with his/her partner then such person should quit.
Truth be told, almost all men and women never really have enough good memory for sex to show or tender it as an achievement.
Real achievements in relationships are things that brings more comfort, opportunities, connections, habit and quality character in you. It journey of how doesn’t have to be smooth though. Sadly, sex seems to be overhyped and really has failed in providing any of the above as a long term benefit.

At the end of the day, if sex is your happiness and your watch work. Ask for it and be bold. Relationship should be a contract and win win for all. Else someone is cheating
