DID JESUS CURSE ANYONE?

The proponents of the belief that a believer can curse under special circumstances, would point to the facts that Jesus pronounced woes on the Scribes and Pharisees, and "cursed" the fig tree as a justification for their heresy.

These people who are bedeviled by vengeful spirit, would rather ignore the preponderance of verses in the New Testament that forbid paying their enemies back in their own coin.

Now, let us examine the faulty claims of these our friends and show them how they are wrong. It may be that God will melt them and they will go to Him to crush their hate-filled and vindictive hearts.

1. Fact: All sinners are under God's Curse
God is the only one that has a right to place anyone under a curse. Man chose God's curse when he fell in the garden of Eden. The curse of ( failure to keep) the law is on all unbelievers. It is only those who are saved that are free from the curse of the law.

2. Jesus did not curse the religious leaders but only emphasised the fact of God's judgement
We believe that Jesus is God. And He has the right and authority to curse the sinners. But the truth is that religious people of His day were already under the curse of the law. Jesus came to liberate people and not to curse them.
This does not however mean that Jesus did not speak harshly and warn the recalcitrant ones about God's impending judgement.
The Greek word translated "woe" is "oual" and it does not mean a curse at all. It is an expression of grief, regret, e.t.c.
Jesus was only saying a sad divine verdict or trouble was awaiting those hypocritical religious leaders.
Take note, Jesus did not curse or even pronounce judgement on those who hurt Him personally.
In fact, he prayed to His Father to forgive His persecutors.

3: What about Jesus "cursing" the fig tree in Mathew 21:19-21?
The question seems very foolish. Is the fig tree human? Yet we need to say what Jesus did to the fig tree was to demonstrate his authority and teach His disciples about the authority the believers have.
Jesus could not find any fruit on the tree. Hence, he declared that the tree would ever be fruitless. His disciples wondered how quickly the fig tree withered. Then he told them they could also manifest authority by faith.
Pray, how does this justify the cursing of our enemies?

As I conclude, let me leave you with scripture verses that only those who are full of grace can abide by.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
- Matthew 5:44-47

Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
- Romans 12:14

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

So a man who could turn water into wine curses a fruitless tree he could have blessed out of unreasonable anger, and all you have is praise for him? Jesus obviously had anger issues, the event at the temple also confirms this.

Cursing the fig tree was a prophetic action against the temple, it simply meant the temple and Israel would go rotten since they refused to bear fruit. If you read the following verses after that you'll see he immediately spoke about the temple's fall.

Those are obviously two unrelated scenes, the so called curse on the innocent tree was for ever. Also the time of death of the tree brings up an inconsistency, in Mark's gospel (11.14, 20-21) the cursed doesn't die until the next morning.

Do you know how many trees are felled in a day for different purposes like lumbering, fuel, construction etc? Jesus, the proclaimed Owner of all trees cursed ONE tree to teach a lesson or two. That's what is giving you high blood pressure, you don't know what is wrong with you yet.

Yes God can actually curse man when they misbehave.
Malachi 3 vs 9-11. says it all

You are cursed with a curse when you don't bring your tithes into the household of God.

Fig tree issue related to the temple and Israel? Nah!.

God cursing man is on every level different from a man laying a curse on a fellow man. BOTH circumstances cannot/should not be compared in any way or form.
For one, God created man and He can curse the hell out of his creation whenever and wherever He wants -- it's his creation. What has man created that he should believe it his place to venture a curse on his fellow man? What is a man that he would dare consider such? Granted the power to curse and blessing does not belong to any man, but still... for a man to descend to the point of cursing his own kind for any reason known to man is nothing short of abominable.

I agree with the others on this. The cursing of the tree is completely unrelated to the issue with the temple and Israel.
