Yes it is. As long as you are not color blind.
An aviation medical examination should clear your doubts.
do pilots get paid monthly or hourly?

Doubt if it is still available. Try to send a pm, perhaps you will get a response

Well, while we are still waiting for Seun, justwise and disguy to create an aviation section on nairaland, I decided to create this thread.

Purpose

The purpose of this thread is to help aviation enthusiasts and fans get answers to aviation related matters by asking a commercial pilot.

About me

By the special grace of God, I'm a first officer on a Boeing 777-200LR. I was previously a first officer on a Boeing 737-800 (Next Gen) so I know one or two things about flying. I look forward to interacting with all aviation fans and fellow aviation professionals here

My colleagues like olisa4all from the rotary wings branch grin, (helicopter pilots) are on hand to answer your questions too.

If I don't reply on time, I'm probably somewhere in the sky doing what I love.

Hii
Me and my team need a chopper to bring a celeb to my school.
It's not absolutely necessary but we could make a huge statement and ticket sales with it cos it's a movie screening, we're showing it on premiere day and the celeb is the first son of the super rich man in the movie.

We could very well approach any chopper hire company but the last guy quoted $15,000 without stuttering.

If we could use an insider, like you wink , we could get a Black-Friday-ish deal wink wink wink

God bless u for this thread...never being in a plane b4, but i respect pilots a lot.
thank u once again...

Your respect for them will triple if you ever get to fly in a plane. Those guys are something else.

I respect them more than Doctors.

Hi all, happy new year to you all.

My apologies for my prolonged absence.

I had an accident (not aviation related) coupled with a long recuperation period and I am unable to continue flying again. Ever. embarassed

From time to time I'd pop in to answer questions
Cheers

OMG! So sorry. I just read this entire thread from beginning to end. It has always been my dream to become a Pilot and I'm starting later this year.

Bose A20 Aviation headset has a 3.5mm jack and Bluetooth, so u can plug it to ur phone and listen to music, it automatically mutes when tower/approach etc starts yapping. It's cost about $1000
I leave the rest to Boeing 777

Lol is that a trim wheel on the controller? shocked

Lol a plane is cheaper to operate, small cessnas are used for sight seeing so it doesnt get too expensive, and i am a fixed wing pilot,i would not be self sponsoring anything in aviation again.

Care to share Why? @the bold

While the write up is correct, the arrow in the image is pointing to the 3rd engine of that aircraft.

#Auxiliary_Power_Units

Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) are gas turbine engines used primarily during aircraft ground operation to provide electricity, compressed air, and/or shaft power for main engine start, air conditioning, electric power and other aircraft systems.
APUs can also provide backup electric power during in-flight operation
An APU is a small turbine engine installed to provide #supplementary_power. Often found in the tails of larger jets and turboprops, APUs serve several useful purposes. APU generators provide #auxiliary_electrical_power for running aircraft systems on the ground when the main engines aren’t running and no ground electrical power is available. Applications include powering environmental systems for pre-cooling or preheating the cabin, and providing power for crew functions such as preflight, cabin cleanup, and galley (kitchen) operation. Many aircraft APUs can also be operated in flight, providing backup power for the main engine generators. On larger aircraft, APUs also generate auxiliary “#bleed_air”, referring to pneumatic pressure drawn from the engine’s compressor section. That’s because large jet engines like those on airliners must be started using pneumatic power. Unless a ground pneumatic source is available, the only way to start large turbine engines is from an operating APU (unless another engine is already running, of course). To accomplish this, the small APU engine is first started using an electric motor (often doing double duty as the generator). Once up and running, APU bleed air is routed to pneumatic starters on the plane’s main engines. Those, in turn, spin up the engine compressors for starting. The schematic shows a typical APU installation. Along with providing ground power, APUs often provide #backup_pneumatic_power for pressurization in flight, and back up environmental systems on the ground and in the air.

Just thinking out loud.. Once met an Heli pilot online that adviced that if funds was not an issue, heli was a better option but even at that, I was still hell bent on airplanes as a choice of career path.
With your knowledge/ experience, which path will you advice a newbie to thread?

Well, once a RW always a RW grin

For now, the FW sector has more prospects with the new airlines popping up everywhere and lots of PJs flying around. Unmanned drones are already doing some of the pipeline surveillance that Helis uses to do hence reducing flights to human transportation only. And it'll take a while before unmanned human transport aircrafts will be commissioned so we'll still have jobs for a while

Wow. Well said. Thank you for calling my attention to things to consider in the long run. Really RW might be restricted to human transport alone, or access to remote areas cos drones are gaining popularity (well even in transport but people like me with trust issues will still prefer to be flown by a human than drone grin)
You remind me of an undergraduate course I took (GRP 206: Map reading and aerial interpretation). We went back in history to how pigeons has cameras mounted on their bellies and trained to fly over enemy territory as the camera takes burst shots.. It helped rivals know the strength and formation of enemy troops. Later when the tactic was discovered, the enemies started training eagles to intercept and k*ll the pigeons in the air so the aerial images don't get to the intended place.
Later photographers started using hot air balloons as the fly over places of interest at certain altitudes to take desired shots, and this soon got replaced with aircrafts...
Some cartographers would have agreements to several airlines to mount cameras beneath the air places, with then take shots as it flies over certain areas. Several pix of same location is acquired from many aircrafts ans is developed overtime, to have a holistic and more accurate pictorial view. It was also used to compare spacio-temporal changes.
Of cause helicopters replaced this as the got the job done better and were used to to capture real time evens but the popularity is being challenged by drones. Eg for a documentary to be made, you need a pilot and a camera man to be on board but with drones, the cost is greatly slashed.

Sorry for my lengthy post, you just pressed a button in me that reminded me of school cheesy
