Can You Start A Business With N50,000? Prove It! by V7place(m): 12:39pm On Sep 29, 2020
Bishop Oyedepo once said something . I cant remember the exact words, but it was something like “ Give one man N20,000 and in 10 years he’s turned it into a billion naira business. Give another man N20,000 and he’s broke before the end of the day”.

I heard a story that in 1990, both Sir Shina Peters and Jim Ovia made and spent N10 million ; one built a manson which is still standing in Lagos today; the other started a bank in his siting room, the name of the bank Zenith!

So are you a Nigerian living in Nigeria and a member of Nairaland? Can you start a business with N50,000 or transform an existing one? What business is that?

50,000 is more than enough!

About half of it is all I need to start my business.

I'm based in IJEBU, so I want to be buying bags of garri from villages here and then take to Lagos to sell.
I've got people in Lagos already that are already ready and waiting to buy from me for reselling.
I plan to start with like 15bags every other day.
On each bag I get nothing less than #2000 profit.

With due respect are you saying that 25000 would buy you 15 bags of garri at Ijebu village?

With that money I can use it to sell baby things and supply to women who came for antenatal at general and private hospitals. A pregnant woman would prefer getting things at their comfort especially when they are getting it at the same price they will get it in the market.

The business is Thrifts
I have access to a lot of organizations that auctions things, from house and office furniture to electronics to kitchen wares and a lot more(it ranges according to what organization is auctioning ).
For example; chairs can come in for as low as 1k/2k and can be resold for 3k /4k or set of pots and kettles for 3000 and be resold for 5k /6k.
It's an already existing business..I sell from home and also arrange delivery for those who can not come pick up.I have a thread here on Nairaland and also a whatsapp group and of course my clients in different markets in Lagos. There are always relevant and quality wares as niaralanders that are my customers can testify to.Let me stop here as I don't intend to divulge much.
There's usually a surge in auctions and purchase towards the end of the year and begining of a new year so its a perfect timing.

Is it still safe on the road to the village? As in bandits? Are there security roadblocks you have to pay money?

It was a comparison between Shins Peters and Jim Ovia. While Shina built a house worth 20 million naira in 1990 Jim secured a banking license with same amount in 1990 named Zenith bank - the largest bank in Nigeria today.

Its good to be educated for knowledge on how to invest.

Very true. Hardly any trade or production with 50k would last. You may start up with it but when you consider expenses in your business and personal expenses, you will run down in a short run.

Doing online business with it just the best option because 50k is about $100 which is enough to risk online and thier are tendencies to make $10 per day which is about 5k.

You grab

Online business model is what I'll advice any youth to start first. No time for running expenses and personal expenses like offline biz.

Most people in business you see are in debt but they wouldn't tell you.

Both offline and online businesses are profitable..Most times its not about the business but about the individual behind the business...Any amount can start a business but greed kills us in Nigeria,we want to go from 10k to 100k in a week..if i buy something at 1k and sell at 2k the same day isn't it more reasonable than waiting a longer time to sell it for 2500..
It's all in perception..Business is not for every one..business is consistentency and growth..offline business also help you build your social network and opens you to more opportunities.

Sure. They will explain A B and C on how to run the business, but they don't understand that unforseen circumstances can occur, like giving you a wrong quality, rains can have effect on offline business, what about expenses and costs of running the business, you will still have to take care of yourself. They forget that offline business is not constant.

I'm not discouraging anyone venturing into offline business, but don't try it with 50k...you’ll sink it.

Online business is better with that 50k.
