Few weeks ago, I read an article on the decision the Supreme court gave on the note of women inheriting properties in Igbo land and I was just laughing because I know it'll never work.

Many women were forming women right activists, celebrating joyfully over the news on social media with non-Igbos and non-traditional Igbos.

Bruv, there are traditional doings that can't be stopped by social media arguement and ranting.

Not even the Federal government can give women access to their father's properties when there are men in the family. In the settings of inheritance in Igbo land, a woman has no say. The earlier y'all accept this the better.

Most of the things women advocate on social media are things that will lead them to frustration or to their early grave when practiced in reality. Let social media ideas end on social media if you want to live long in this county.

There is this woman in my place , she does not have a son to claim right to her properties but she is making plans already for her married daughters to inherent her house and other properties after her demise.
If she finally succeeded in getting her lawyer to sign them I think there is nothing anybody can do about it.
The problem started when she gave her step son her land property but instead the idiot went behind her to sale it , when she discovered she became angered cause she could sale it if she wanted to, if not for nothing at least to take care of herself but the idiot because of greediness he wants to sale it even when she is still alive.
Now she has willed her land properties to her sons-in-law and the house to her daughters.
What am saying is that is just a matter of time the law will ....

There is no reason for you to take this personally, just call a spade what it is and move on.
The woman should share whatever is the property with her brother. You don't know the financial status of the brother and how well he relates with the members of the family and denying him such might ruin his chance of becoming anything meaningful in the near future.
My brother sometimes it is not good to judge everything from your perspective. So because you did not inherit anything from your father another man will not while his 59 year old sister takes everything

I addressed the position that a Woman should have no say in her father's property.

Read very well.

I decided not inherit it because the principle that guide me now, I upheld it since and it has helped me in life up till this moment.

And everybody should go and work for their life. A man must not serve u all his life and still die and u continue to leach on his sweats.

Go and work for what Ur children will inherit too that u can proudly say I WORKED FOR IT.

All this things you said are just BS.

So, what of all those traditions that have been abolished in the past or abandoned completely?

Or is it because this has to do with women and property that it has to be different?

Everywhere in the world, traditions are being modified or upgraded to suit modern standards.

The fact that it's done that way in the past does not mean it's right.

If the son is useless then the father is equally useless for raising a useless son and at such must include him in his will or allow the court to do so.
This is not an excuse for excluding anybody or gender from your will

U don't have to defend Ur need to lazy around and wait for inheritance by judging the man.

What if the boy already sold or stole his own Inheritance, he must be giving more just because he is a boy ?

Mr Man stop taking everything personally and referring to the other party as if he is the one in the news. Emotions don't win cases in court, proofs do.
You decided not to inherit your father after he passed on but do you know that some people started building properties their own children will inherit while their parents were still alive.
Again, stop judging things from your own perspective

I think you are speaking from experience. My brother from this side people already have properties before their parents die.
Back to the bone of contention, the woman is yet to provide the will papers. Besides if she manages to do so, nobody has the right to exclude any of his offspring being male, female or useless from his will.
The court will nullify such

I wonder why some people are wailing for property given or handed over to a female. Some idiot come dey quote IBO tradition.

A man/ woman have the right to give any of his or her properties to their children irrespective of Sex.
.

Na im make I like one region for abia, wey both the male nd female children dey equal and dey do well both for their papa house and outside because of the way they train and see pikin.

Just pray make you born better children wey no go fight or kill themselves over your property, instead them go add more properties and do much better than you

Stupeed and useless tradition.

Women can inherit the poverty and take over the burden she knows nothing about in the event the father dies early and leave behind a whole local Govt for her to take care of.

Women has no say but they are allowed to go and prostitute to take care of a stroke ridden father and other rats he gave birth to when some situation warrants it.

The earlier u people throw the useless tradition away the better.

Women are vulnerable that is why they die in a useless man's house despite abuse.

I already willed my first house to my first daughter. Anybody who give her any stress should be shot at sight.
The only way a dead parent can create enmity between his children is by willing everything he has to one of them because he's his beloved or best. As a woman, you can will your property to any of your children, but as a man make it go round for your children to be at peace when you're gone. At least, the movie CHIEF DADDY has a position on that

Honestly I tire for Nigerians and Humans in general,
A female was excluded from the father's will. We accused the father of sexism and fought on her behalf.
Now a woman is claiming that the father willed everything to her and made her promise not to share with the brother and some are here saying "the guy should go and hustle"

Lol

The court will look at a will duly signed by the property owner and say they want to re write it.

My brother the only will the court can do that to is a will wrtitten before a man gets married.

If the will was written and signed after he married, nobody can throw it out.

Also for the umpteenth time my original post was to address the guy who said

"Women should av no say in their father's property because of tradition"

This quote is what I jumped on.

You should be able to detect when somebody is speaking from sentiments.
How can the father pass all his property to his daughter with no regards for the son?
From the post you will realize that not even an inch was given to the son. This is not a case of disregarding a female child but that of a male child which would not make news because the males don't have any group like feminists fighting on their behalf

Very possible for very many reasons....

Stop being myopic. Its high time property inheritance is reviweid in Igbo land. I agree to some extent that a married woman may not have full right to property but some dictates of the tradition need to be reviewed.

If a man give birth to only women in his life time, at death, his wicked brothers will take over his property abi? My mother lost his only brother in controversial circumstance after the death of his father some years.

Today, nothing can be remembered of my late grand father. His brothers took over his land and property. Explanation is that my mother cannot inherit anything. This is despite my mother care on her father while he was alive. To add salt to injury, there were times my mother passed through hell in financial difficulties.

If they had given her a piece of land, she would have sold it to help herself. But no. They denied everything in the name of tradition.

Thank God we are now making money. Some male children can be evil no man would want them to inherit their property. In such situations, why wouldn't the woman take over his father's property.

This should be reviewed. Female children should have something reserved for them from their father. It may not be ancestral land. It may be anything.
