There are more male gynaecologists than female ones. The reason is not far fetched.

Take me for example. After spending one year in the O&G department delivering and operating women, getting bitten, slapped, had my clothes torn, got exposed to HIV, being insulted by some mothers, being called names, the things i saw and experienced. I am sick and tired of seeing vagina. I no do again. I am traumatized.
I'm even beginning to think that motherhood is not worth the stress. There's a number of my female friends who share similar views. O&G is too bloody, time consuming and messy. Too much drama.

But i doubt men will ever get tired of seeing vagina. Diseased or not.

I'm a doctor in training and i can relate to this sensitive topic.

In some hospital settings, the woman may be given a choice of staff - but in Nigeria, many doctors are loaded with patients and you just have to go with any that is free.

Our doctor to patient ratio doesn't afford the privilege to choose, many times.

To be honest, a male doctor checking a woman's vagina is not assaulting or something to be worried about - many of them have seen so much that it doesn't interest them anymore
