Akinmoyede who condemned the unprofessional conduct by a police officer attempting to assault some protesting citizens against alleged human rights violations by personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), said the conduct displayed by the officer is not a true reflection of the ethics, standards, values and training of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The CP notes that the conduct displayed by the officer is not a true reflection of the ethics, standards, values and training of the Nigeria Police Force.

“The CP, while noting that disciplinary action has already commenced against the erring officer, however observes that much as it is within the rights of the citizens to express their concerns through protest and other legitimate means, they should do so in a peaceful manner, devoid of violence and disruption of public peace and order.

“The CP calls on the people of Imo State to exercise restraint and be patient with the ongoing reforms on SARS and other Tactical Squads of the Force.

“He reassures that the Command will fully comply with the directives of the IGP towards preventing any violation of the rights of the citizen and improving on the working relationship between the Command and residents of the State.”

Both police and citizens go die this coming week.

Our people are not matured enough to handle peaceful protest likewise our police are not matured to control their temper.

Some of them have not shoot a shot for over 4 years and would love to cease the opportunity to do so.

Don't provoke the policeman to anger and policeman, dont allow devil use you oo. Instead of being triggee happy you rather be trigger sad or what am i even typing??

They should start televised disciplinary actions against erring officers to serve as a deterrent to others.

In this country even boys scout wan flex power because Dem wear uniform.

Imagine my secondary school mate police officer friend calling me a bloody civilian while we argued last night about this ongoing SARS saga.

Even civil defence, road safety, customs and immigration dey form power in top Nigerians head.

Their mentality is outrightly wrong from the onset.

They need reorientation to know that they are meant to serve and not to be served.

If he himself as a DPO punched a protester, you can imagine the directives he gives to SARS boys under his division.

Some guys join police force with patriotic mind and spirit but the police hierarchy will make them to change and become like their usual self except you don't want to be promoted.

It's a step in the right direction. Most of our security personnel are so crude and brutish. It's almost becoming a culture for them to beat up citizens at will
