WWE Raw Reviews recaps and reactions

Holy crap.
This was the best moment of the show.
The Fiend’s music played and Alexa Bliss was in the turnbuckle as Andrade and Zelina Vega slowly backed away.
They met the Fiend behind them. Fiend grabbed Andrade, and then Alexa grabbed Zelina. Double Sister Abigail! It was brilliant!
I am super excited to see more of this in any capacity. Against Andrade and Zelina, two random people, anyone.
Versus Randy for the title after Hell in a Cell? I don’t know about that one. I’d like to see The Fiend and Alexa do some mixed tag stuff first.

Farewell
Rollins came out to say goodbye to the Raw audience, and said there’s no one who can really step up and be their leader.
New Raw signee Jeff Hardy interrupted, and said Raw’s ring is his now after Rollins told him to get out. And then AJ Styles interrupted laughing at Rollins and he took exception, Hardy kicked them both, and then said they’d all have a “triple threat tag team match.”
This was a great match!
The side Russian leg sweep pin attempt by Hardy ruled. The dynamic between all three men worked really well, and it was particularly nice to see Seth Rollins in the ring with someone who doesn’t have Mysterio as a last name. Sadly, neither of these men are returning to SmackDown long term, so this was just a one and done. Elias blasted Hardy in the back with his guitar and Styles took advantage.
The return of Elias is quite intriguing, as it seems he’ll be returning to his heel roots. I liked him as a babyface, but Corbin ruined that. Then he went away after Sheamus hit him with a car and framed Hardy… oooohhhhh. Huh. That’s interesting.
Well, back to our regularly scheduled Rollins/Mysterio feud on Fridays!

Too generic
Orton said he’s going to be locked in a cell with Drew McIntyre and he’s gonna take the title away from him. McIntyre interrupted the three most dangerous letters and said the beating he gave him at Clash was for the people he hurt, but Hell in a Cell is for him.
I’ve enjoyed both Orton’s promos and the program between him and McIntyre, however these generic “At (pay-per-view) I will win your (championship name) and blah blah blah” doesn’t cut it for me. Similarly, the champion’s generic promo retort to the generic challenger’s promo equally doesn’t cut it for me. Just… fight. I don’t need to be reminded that Drew will attack Randy every time he sees him. Just do it!
I know we have to get the talking in, and Raw does love its talking. WWE’s refusal to allow their audience to put the pieces together makes these segments less than exciting.
Certain things need to be said. Not everything.

Draft day part 2
The Fiend and Alexa coming over to Raw was the big move of the night. I’m very eager to see where this goes. A first program with Andrade and Zelina would be neat! I also like that they brought Nikki Cross over so that those two can finally end their relationship.

I also really like that Apollo Crews was drafted to SmackDown, because of two reasons. One, he’s finally away from the Hurt Business, and two, he’s back on Paul Heyman’s brand. Heyman may not be in charge, but hopefully he still has some ways to help Crews out.

The worst part about both drafts - two Raw feuds that were not necessary to continue were just moved over to SmackDown. All of Rollins/Murphy/Mysterio and now Kevin Owens and Aleister Black. For some reason, WWE decided not to continue the Fiend and Owens and drafted them to separate brands. Rollins will be an interesting dynamic with his former Shield brethren at the head of the table, and now both of them are heels. An interaction between the two, maybe?

Lana is the best! Lana #1! - Nia Jax eliminated people and then Shayna helped the group eliminate her. To retaliate - Lana got put through a table for the third straight week. But, they accomplished what they set out to do by doing that! With me, at least. The “final” two were Natalya and Lacey Evans and Natalya took Lacey out and started to celebrate, and I was just like… yeah okay. Either woman winning wasn’t going to wow me, but I accepted it.
And then the swerve. Lana kicked Natalya right off the apron and won the whole thing. I popped when that happened. Thinking about it after the show, it’s fine. Let her have what I believe will be a squash match with Asuka and call it a day. That’ll show Miro!

New Day def. Roode and Ziggler - Xavier Woods was awesome to watch in this match! He was flipping around and bouncing off the ropes. The slingshot dropkick and then Ziggler had a counter and I almost thought they’d do the switch here and go with the unification on SmackDown. They didn’t. I’m fine with being wrong.

Ricochet def. Cedric Alexander - I loved the stipulation for this match. If Ricochet won, Hurt Business leaves him alone, and if he lost, he joins them. I almost wanted him to lose but the ending was great. Ric pulled a Guerrero and pretended to get hit by the chair MVP slid into the ring while the ref was down. I loved it! Though because he won in that way, I could see this feud continuing. We’ll see.

Kevin Owens def. Aleister Black - Really enjoyed the finish! I’ve questioned most of this little feud because Aleister never really made his intentions as to why Owens is such a bastard clear, especially since his heel turn came from concern and worry for his health and well-being on that KO Show last month. Aleister loses more from this to be honest, and that’s mainly because he’s going to be saddled with this new “pirate” gimmick.

Angel Garza def. Andrade - Zelina was out for commentary, and said that both men’s egos got in the way while she was managing them, and she was fed up. Garza won pretty quickly, but what happened afterward, as I mentioned above, was the true highlight. I will say, it seems like both Zelina and Andrade getting double Sister Abigail could lead to them teaming up again.

Miz TV - is awful. Miz and Morrison together are awful. Use Miz throwing Morrison to Lars Sullivan to split them up. My god.

Rose and Brooke def. Natalya and Lana - Natalya and Lana are finally done. Don’t expect much to happen with Lana at this point, but I know she’ll never pick up a win for the rest of her time in WWE. She’s the only one allowed to be pinned in matches involving her, after all. But she gets to face Asuka for the title now, so what do I know?

Raw was a decent show, but a number of things dragged out. Miz TV getting two segments was awful. I did not like the women’s battle royal main event getting interrupted twice by Orton and McIntyre. The wrestling on the show was pretty good though, with some great finishes.

I’m really upset that Ali never got to talk about RETRIBUTION and his role in it on this show, after he was advertised. I wonder what happened there

WWE NXT Reviews recaps and reactions

Spin the Wheel
The main event of this week’s show was Damian Priest defending his title against Dexter Lumis.
It felt too soon to run this as a legit feud. So it was none-too-surprising when Cameron Grimes cost the silent superstar the match with a Cave In behind the ref’s back. This is the obvious feud based on the last couple of weeks.
It’ll be interesting to see who gets the better of it. Conventional thinking would say it’s Lumis, who’s the babyface in this program and the bigger man. He’d have a tougher time recovering from the loss than Grimes, who can make up some BS excuse and be good to go. The goal is to elevate both men and hopefully they’re able to do that.
This week’s title match was fun enough to warrant the main event spot. Lumis’ bursts of agility are still a sight to behold and plays into his enigmatic character very well. Meanwhile, Priest is doing what he needs to as a midcard champion. I’ve enjoyed him much more since he turned babyface after his lost to Finn Bálor. He’s not at a point where I’d be very excited to see him in a main title match, but at this point, that may be just preference. I dig Priest, but I’m not a mega fan.
Next, Damian will have to face Johnny Gargano again at Halloween Havoc after just defeating him at TakeOver 31. An attack to the champ with a chair post-match earned Johnny that right. (As did the fact they had to put a match together in short order.)
William Regal added the spice when he kicked it over to Shotzi, who made the match (and Candice’s title match which we’ll get to in a moment) a Spin the Wheel, Make a Deal match.
This will at least add a fun stipulation to the rematch. There’s some ridiculous stuff on that wheel, such as a casket match, a cole miner’s glove on a pole match, and a buried alive match. The outcome will be the same, but it’s always appreciated when they go retro with the classics. And they should have some fun with these stipulations.

Rematch Number Two
Candice LeRae gets another shot at Io Shirai’s title at Halloween Havoc in two weeks.
She got there by defeating Shotzi Blackheart in what was a good match between two women who have consistently having good matches. The deciding factor was Indi Hartwell, who last week started sucking up to Candice (and Johnny Gargano) by giving them a new TV. Indi slipped LeRae brass knuckles, a weapon the Poison Pixie used to win the match.
So we get another rematch from TakeOver 31 less than a month later. It’s feels a tad lazy to run the same match again. They obviously want to wait on bigger challengers like Rhea Ripley, Toni Storm, and Ember Moon. And they should.
At least Candice and Io have great chemistry and the match will be good. The new wrinkle will be Hartwell, who could be a deciding factor for LeRae. But in reality, she isn’t beating Io Shirai and the lack of drama for what is likely the top title match for the show is a bit disappointing.
The wheel will help spice things up though.

Showing Unity
Undisputed is still showing unity... for now.
Kyle O’Reilly joined Bobby Fish & Roderick Strong ringside for their #1 contenders match against Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch. O’Reilly spoke for the group (kind of like the leader?), showing no simpy for Ridge Holland. In fact, he claimed if Ridge weren’t in a hospital bed because of last week’s gruesome injury, he’d be there because Undisputed put him there.
KOR acknowledged that someone was behind the Adam Cole attack, meaning this “who dunnit?” angle will continue. I’m glad it will. It’s obviously a major shame that Ridge suffered such an injury. But it looks like they can continue this major angle with Undisputed.
Fish & Strong defeated Burch & Lorcan in a fun match to set up a match against Breezango next week. And that should be a fun time. But the big angle here is the future of Undisputed, which despite all their insistences, could be headed towards a break.

Baby Steps
The team of Drake Maverick & Killian Dain is just a tad more cohesive than they were last week.
Killian isn’t into the music (which is weird because it rules) and definitely wasn’t into Drake’s team name of Furry & Fury (that I understand). But he is tolerating this entire thing more. Because he gets to beat people up.
Drake booked them a match against former tag champions Imperium. This time around, Dain was willing to tag in, even extending his hand. That’s huge for this relationship! But it wasn’t enough to win.
I’m glad Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner went over. This new odd couple tag team is wildly entertaining, but they are not at a place they should be defeating a team the caliber of Imperium. They showed some fight, but it wasn’t enough.
The biggest step forward was after the match. Ever-Rise thought Drake was left alone and tried to get some revenge for last week. But Big Dain sent both men to the floor with a double clothesline. He then told Drake that he is the only person who gets to hit Maverick.

Loser
Austin Theory continues to lose.
This week, it was at the hands of Johnny Gargano. It wasn’t any squash. It was a two segment match that could have gone the young man’s way at times. But in the end, it was another L for Theory. Wade Barrett pointed out his losing streak and qualified it with the fact it was against a list of really good talent.
But at the same time, a loss is a loss. And it’s not like Johnny Gargano wins all the time. This was kind of a battle of two guys who lose more than they win. In the end, Johnny was too seasoned for the rookie Theory.
This losing streak is an obvious storyline. And NXT has done well with that in the past. Andrade (“Cien” Almas) lost all the time prior to working with Zelina Vega, a move that took him right to the top. Eventually, Theory will find something that works for him when they want to move him on from just putting others over.

All the Rest:
- Jake Atlas defeated Ashante “Thee” Adonis. He took advantage when Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde walked out, looking for some revenge on Adonis from TakeOver 31. After using that to his advantage, Jake opted to help Adonis. Santos Escobar joined his boys and Isaiah “Swerve” Scott did the same for Adonis and Atlas, leaving this a stalemate. I wonder if this will lead to Atlas challenging for the Cruiserweight title because Scott lost his last two chances.

- Rhea Ripley and Raquel González had words when the Nightmare overheard Raquel talking some trash in an interview. It took a slew of officials to hold them apart. NXT did a very good job building this as a big time match in a short period of time, especially given González really hasn’t been a featured singles act prior to this.

- Toni Storm picked up her first win back (obvs) against Aliyah. It’s great having this rockstar back on Wednesdays.

This was a solid episode. Some of these matches feel longer than usual. That is good for matches like Shotzi vs. Candice. Not as necessary for Theory vs. Gargano. Running TakeOver rematches and lacking the men’s title scene makes these shows feel less essential, but they’re still not bad.

It’s… dusty in here, isn’t it? cry
The New Day were in the ring for their final night as a trio.
Six years ago, the first chorus sang about the Power of Positivity. Then came the Booty-O’s, followed by pancakes. The New Day has been through it all. They’re the current longest reigning tag champions in WWE history, and it all started because Big E and Xavier Woods walked up to Kofi Kingston with an idea.
Kofi said that in 2012, he was ready to call it quits until that moment. Xavier even mentioned how if it wasn’t for Kofi and E, he probably wouldn’t even be in WWE anymore. That part cut right through me.
Any one of these guys, hell - all of them even, could have been in the round of COVID-19 cuts back in April, if not for the idea of The New Day.
On a personal note, my fandom of New Day went back and forth over the years. Around the time of the Old Day segment (yeah y’all remember that?) I wanted them to split, and I wanted it to be the way a lot of people originally thought it would - Big E heel turn.
I can now tell you I am 100% happy that it never happened. The New Day trio was pivotal in Kofi’s historic rise to WrestleMania 35’s WWE Championship win. These three men truly uplift and support each other, and it shows, man. This is the truest meaning of a brotherhood.
So after the tears were dried up, New Day had to team up one more time to take on Sheamus, Cesaro, and Nakamura. It was a phenomenal match. Xavier Woods, who was out for nearly a year due to an Achilles injury, lifted Big E from the ground onto his shoulders! Cesaro showed his incredible strength with a gut wrench superplex to Big E, too.
After their final win as a trio, the tears flowed again as they hugged.
I love you gentlemen. cry

Jey Uso is a rising star
The main event of tonight’s episode was a Universal championship match between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman.
Reigns dominated the first few minutes, but Braun was able to keep kicking out at one.
Brilliantly, Reigns once again did a low blow kick out, but Braun was able to kick out of a spear, as Goldberg looked on in the ThunderDome. Reigns with a guillotine submission, which is not a usual move from him. But it got him a win via tap out!
After the match, Jey Uso came out and locked eyes with Reigns. Reigns asked Paul to give him a chair, and as Jey looked on from the floor, Reigns showed him what Hell in a Cell will look like and slammed it into Braun’s back with a bunch of referees and officials trying to stop him. Reigns said that even though Jey is making no sense when it’s his job to be the head of the table for the family. He also told Jey that he loved him. He kicked the chair to Jey and turned his back, but Jey dropped the chair.
Then he slapped Reigns in the face, superkicked him, and hit him with the chair twice in a fury while screaming "I love you too, you love me? I love you too". My lord that was incredible! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that vicious side of Jey Uso before.
But it all ended for him as Reigns recovered and hit him with a Superman punch and said that was his final chance to back down.
Chills. Absolutely wonderful and I could watch this feud go on for the rest of the year and not get tired of it. I had no problems with how Braun was treated here. I would like it to believe that him screaming “I’m not finished with you!” means that literally. Hopefully.

Contract signing - Bayley and Sasha came out to sign the contract for their Hell in a Cell match. Bayley said once again that she became the longest reigning SmackDown women’s champion all by herself. Sasha interjected and said to say it again, but Bayley came back at her and said that she knows she’s been waiting all this time to turn on her.
Sasha seemed to forget that she actually did turn on Bayley a few years ago. Sasha said that Bayley turned her back on her and her name is bigger than Bayley’s title. (Mandalorian, y’all!) Bayley left and didn’t sign the contract. I know the match between them will be great, but the revisionist history is not great. You’re never going to convince me that Sasha is a full on babyface here.

Daniel Bryan returns - Bryan returned after four months away. He started hyping up the fresh blood, until Rollins interrupted, hurt that he wasn’t mentioned. He asked whether Bryan would be with or against him. Bryan called him self-centered, and Rollins attacked.
Rollins ducked out and The Mysterios chased him back into the ring, when Murphy then joined and looked like he was going to team up with Rollins, and then psyched him out and attacked him instead! The Mysterios refused a handshake from Murphy and left. I am really excited to see some Rollins and Bryan after a period of time away from each other. At least we’ll have Murphy to drive a wedge between the months long Rollins and Rey and Dom feud.

Lars Sullivan def. Jeff Hardy - Before the match, Triple H and Stephanie went through their spiel hyping up the “Season Premiere” of SmackDown and introduced some of the players. The Street Profits came out and Roode and Ziggler attacked, which started a huge brawl that ended with Lars being sent out of the ring by Jeff Hardy.
Jeff got some offense and hit Whisper in the Wind, but Lars kicked out and pushed him to the other side of the ring. It was a noble effort, but Lars’ Freak Accident got the victory. J-A-double R-E-double T looked on from one of the ThunderDome screens and just shook his head. That’s… relevant apparently.
Also, Triple H started to sing “Super Freak” by Rick James when Lars’ name was mentioned grin grin

Tag title match gets a ref stoppage - This was quick and as we now know, unnecessary. This could have been really good as a regular match without nonsense.

This was a very good episode of SmackDown, aside from the silliness with the tag titles. It’s been a few weeks! This may also have been the first SmackDown, or any WWE show for that matter in quite a while, that had no women’s match on the whole show. Odd choice for the “Season Premiere.

I don't want Braun anywhere near that Universal Title again, man was so boring with the title. Jey, Jey dude is on fire, This fued between Roman and Jey is one of the best. My New Day it hurts to see them split. Overall the shows were good.

This show sucked. Sucked.
This show is what happens when you don’t plan shit out.
RETRIBUTION was murked. What the hell?
No damn plan at all. This group started out as everything Fox News wants you to believe Antifa is, then booked them on some shows in segments that didn’t cause the chaos that they supposedly craved, random segments here and there with Hurt Business and Rey and Dominik Mysterio.
Then they had to quarantine due to another WWE COVID-19 outbreak. Then Mustafa Ali was revealed as their leader! Finally RETRIBUTION was going somewhere!
And then the next week they weren’t on the show. Tonight, they lost their first real match via tapout to Lashley. Then the Fiend took all of them out. All four men. By himself.
This is what happens when you don’t plan shit out.
So later on, Mustafa Ali revealed himself as the SmackDown hacker. Probably the only thing that was planned, but decided to drop for whatever reason. They drafted Ali to Raw when they had an angle going on, already on television that people liked, and just moved the main dude over to the other brand!
There’s no “wait and see”. There’s no “give it a chance”. This sucks. They killed this act when it was just getting some traction. You suck, WWE.

We’re out of time!
McIntyre called Orton intelligent for taking out the men he was celebrating with after Clash of Champions. He knew that he accepted Orton’s challenge at Hell in a Cell out of anger. Even though he doesn’t have experience in the cell, the life experiences he’s had makes up for it.
Orton in the main event, sat in a chair in the middle of the cell and said he’s never left a piece of himself behind every time he’s walked out after a match. He listed off his matches and the opponents he faced.
Orton was about to say that Drew facing Brock at WrestleMania was legendary, and then Drew interrupted him and walked to the door of the cell. Orton told him he’ll have to wait until Sunday to get to him since the door was bolted shut. But Drew found bolt cutters pretty quickly off to the side of the ThunderDome.
… And then the show ended.
What the hell? I’ve enjoyed pretty much all of Drew and Randy’s interactions, but this was by far the worst one. And it’s the go home show for the pay-per-view. If this was supposed to keep me on the edge of my seat for Sunday, it didn’t do its job.
In fact, most of what we’re in store for on Sunday that involves Raw isn’t exciting for me whatsoever.

AJ Styles def. Matt Riddle - AJ Styles has a bodyguard now, and it’s the extremely tall dude who guarded the Raw Underground door. He’s very big. Very intimidating. So much so that the referee couldn’t even do his job for the first minute. I actually really liked the ref pleading with him to get out of the ring.
Riddle was very intimidated, too. The behemoth blocked him from getting to Styles at one point, and then balled up his fist and scared Riddle back into the ring. And right into a Styles Clash for the win. I’m intrigued by this new pairing of Jordan and AJ. If McIntyre retains on Sunday, I would really like to see the interactions between he and Jordan if AJ is next for the WWE title.

Kofi Kingston def. Sheamus - Kofi had some decent offense before the commercial break, but then Sheamus dominated. The most awesome part was seeing Big E in the ThunderDome crowd and it gave Kofi the power of positivity for a few moments to gain momentum. Also loved Xavier telling Samoa Joe that Kofi had a lot left after he heard him question Kofi’s ability on commentary. New Day just puts a smile on my face, y’all. I really needed it.

Alexa is in the Firefly Fun House - Bray’s surprise for all his fans was Alexa knocking on the door at the end, telling us we’re in for more fun. I’ve been waiting for her to show up in my once favorite children’s show. SpongeBob ain’t got nothing on the Fun House. Excited for what’s to come!

Braun Strowman def. Keith Lee - Keith Lee was able to toss Braun around like we’ve never seen before. Sadly, WWE can’t keep one cool thing in one feud, as Braun won by low-blowing Lee “without the ref seeing” even though he definitely was in position to see it. After the match, Lee crushed Braun’s nuts with his foot. Rightfully so. But this wasn’t great.

Asuka def. Lana - It went longer than I thought, but ended exactly the way it would. After the match, as DJ Khaled would say, “Another one.” You know what happened. Please continue to tell me in the comments that it’s not exactly what I’ve been saying it is.

Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler win a pointless match - Let me ask, what was the point of doing this match if they weren’t having someone defeat the tag champs to set up a title match? I don’t usually like making people #1 contenders that way, but at least it’s something. Also, Lacey and Peyton? Lacey? Peyton? This could have been the IIconics! Why split them up to put Peyton right back into a pairing with someone else? It could have been a one-off, but the way they had them acting exactly like Nia and Shayna, something tells me that will continue.

EL GRAN GORDO - Nothing else about anything that happened here matters. I HOWLED when Otis came out in that ridiculous get up.

Elias sang - This was about 7 or 8 straight minutes of an Elias concert that sucked, followed by Hardy playing a guitar solo and swinging for Elias’ head while telling him he didn’t try to run him over months ago on SmackDown. Sure Jeff, that’ll make him believe you.

The draft was supposed to make this show better. So far, it didn’t

Unheed his false statement, the rest of us demand an egalitarian roster where a psychopathic, brainwashing cult leader is not able to decimate a four man anarchist group on a whim.

This one pass contract clause. Could be a backroom deal that she can't back out of.
