Previous thread; https://www.nairaland.com/6186063/endsars-protesters-attacked-benin-one

I have just learnt that hoodlums are attacking #EndSARS protesters, who have conducted themselves peacefully in Benin City. I extend condolences to the victims of the attack, including those who lost their lives and others who were injured by the thugs.

It is disheartening that anyone would attack a peaceful assembly of young people, who are expressing genuine concerns to #EndSARS, police brutality and intimidation in their own country.

“I hereby call on the Police Command in the state to get out on the streets and provide adequate security for the #EndSARS protesters and ensure that no one is harassed in the course of exercising their rights in Edo State.”

Thorough investigation would be conducted immediately to fish out the culprits of the attack on peaceful #EndSARS protesters in Benin City, and we would do all possible within the law to ensure those culpable are brought to justice.

This the wises decision I have seen from a Governor since the EndSars begin. Very reasonable, I always know Obaseki is a wise man.

Modify,

Is not all Police men that are part of SARS or any form of brutality. Let say 85% of infringement of rights are done by SARS then the rest are done by police. All this hoodlum attack, to be Frank if police were there they might aid the chaos. Just that hoodlums will attack unarmed protesters and the results will be fatal.

Inside police they are good police. And that's the police Obaseki is referring to.

Am not supporting police or SARS, mind you.

These people will push one to go on Whatsapp chain message and offer anything from N10,000 - N50,000 for anyone that can snitch about any thug that has gone to attack any #EndSARS event.

When a few of them are picked and taken on a ride to hell and back, they will feel sensible. No problem.

The perpetrators must be punished. I guess their motive is to anger the youths, force them to resort to violence and pitch them against the security agencies.

On peaceful protest we stand
