OVERVIEW
The Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCFMT) is one of the 13 Federal Tertiary Institutions established to meet the needs of the Agricultural, Fisheries and Maritime Subsectors of the Nigerian economy. The College was instituted in 1969 as a vocational training institute and assumed the name FEDERAL COLLEGE OF FISHERIES AND MARINE TECHNOLOGY (F.C.F.M.T) its present status in 1992.
MANDATE
The Institution has the Mandate to Train Middle level Manpower in the areas of Fisheries Technology (Fresh water, Brackish and Marine), including aqua culture, fish processing & fishing gear design & construction.
Another aspect of the mandate is to train deep sea Fishermen to handle Dermasal and Pelagic ships and Interwoven training of Maritime professionals (Traditional seafarers and Shore managers) to support both National, International Maritime Trade based on the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Safer Shipping and Cleaner Ocean which Nigeria is a party.
At the moment Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology Lagos attracts students from West Africa. In addition to National Diploma (ND) & Higher National Diploma (HND) in Fisheries Technology, the College offers programmes in the following areas:
Nautical Science (ND)
Marine Transport and Business Management (ND and HND)
Labour and Industrial Relations (ND)
Marine Engineering (ND)
Post Graduate Diploma in Maritime Management Technology (Fisheries, Maritime and Safety)
Professional Maritime training
Fishing Coxswain, Fishing Marine Engineering Assistant, Officer of the Watch (OOW)
Fishing Artisan, Gear (net) Artisan and Technology

The College currently attracts students from all over West Africa
CAPACITY AND CAPABILITY IN TRAINING
All our programmes are accredited and monitored by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and other relevant institutions.
We have collaborations with both local and international agencies in different areas of fisheries and maritime
The College has competent staff with both local and international training.
Many have served locally and internationally with organizations such as FISON, WAAPP, FAO, UNDP, ETF, World Bank etc

Modern Building complex donated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

I finished there 2016, studied Nautical Science. I'd advise you to go for either martime business and transport studies or marine engineering for a better shot at employment opportunities.
