Dear All,

Considering the scarcity of UGU seeds in the market for planting, I have told my Dad who lives in the East to source for the Broad Leaf variety Ugu seeds for me.

The only challenge is transport. Transporters in the house, please advise your fellow Nairalander on how to bring this seed from Imo State with the least possible covid-price.

Interested buyers/farmers/planters are welcome to show interest. Am based in Lagos though but can deal with neighboring states. I can also export to you if you need the seeds abroad.

As at today, average seed price is N35.

I will update pictures soon.

Have anybody done UGU POWDER before.

I never also believed in making ugu powder until I started doing my research on how to preserve veggie during glut, which led me to a malaysian woman that farms ugu and other african veggies in Malaysia. She supplies ugu powder to american clients in kg and gets paid bountifully. She said it is used for babies, pregnant women, old people's home, hospitals and breastfeeding animals in Asia and the US and will just be added like powdered milk to to oats and feed. She taught me the recipe but am yet to do it. I will update the house once I start the project cos am also looking at the general acceptance over here. She even sent me pics, but i dey save am for later.

Don't mind me bro, Looking for a cheaper and reliable way to bring my seeds into lagos. Waybill is very expensive nowadays though bringing some in by next week.

Good evening,
I have started preparations for the dry season vegetable farming.

I will like to use this thread as my update line.

Pictures will follow through.

1. The Plan :
The plan is to plant ugu seeds in the swamp between now and November ending, then start selling by first week of January down till 2nd week of June.
Only leaf will be sold as it is swamp farming, because by the time it will be ready for seed production, the rain might have taken over part of the swamp. A normal swamp is only dry for at most 6 months.
But know one thing, you would have made enough money to compensate for seeds.
One reason I am going to the swamp is because of irrigation cost. For me setting up boreholes on upland is a bit expensive and labour intensive especially on a short time rented land. But swamp farming makes it all easy. Just dig gutter inside the swamp in case of flash flood which is dependent on area.
Part of the swamp that is a bit dry has been cleared while seeds has also been planted waiting patiently for germination by God's grace.
While some ugu seeds will be planted in nursery bags and transplanted as the water recede from the swamp surface.
The maximum time to transplant ugu from a pure water sachet seedling bag is 21days- this is from my personal experience and research.
I plan to plant 2seeds per hole with a maximum spacing of 3ft.

More info to come as the journey progresses by God's Grace.

Pictures from the land so far.

The uncleared portion is still wet and thus will be cleared as the water dries up.

The cleared portion has been planted.

Transplanted some seeds after the endsars protest.

They have all stabilized.

Still looking forward to the ones that were planted directly. Though I have started seeing germination.

Good morning readers,

I am adding okra seeds to the mix too. I bought Yeleen okra from technisem.

The ugu farm is also going on well. Though the drought has started in my region. The sun is really hot. The land is totally dried.

An advice to those transplanting seedlings is make sure you wet the hole before planting the seedlings. Then wet after planting the seedlings. Very important.

What are the features of this okra variety?
Is it the variety that's as short as a coke bottle?
