I think PHP is the bogeyman, the man that refused to die. Just like Benjamin Button, PHP keeps getting fresher and better with each release. I am sure when some Node developers sleep they always have PHP based nightmares grin. PHP is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Just 1 month. A lot of factors contributed to it. I already spent 3 months learning the basics of python coupled with the fact I am a fast learner.

It's a great journey bro. You won't understand half the things in it. Others will look like you made a bad decision, just a fraction will you understand.

Just be stead fast. And always use your chrome to debug your code. In fact you will be doing more debugging than coding.

is there any cheap way to host these stacks? I mean u can get a cheap server for php sites to host at relatively cheap price. any availability for the MERN stack

A server is a server . . and it doesn't matter what you host on it.

The only way to make money with the MERN stack is to get a job or build your own startup. Startups are hard and there's a 95 percent chance of failure. If one needs a team of developers to build an idea, to me they have already failed. This WordPress, Shopify and Magento stuff is something a developer can use few hours of their time to build and they are already part of an ecosystem. Imagine building a useful wordpress plugin with a freemium model. Plugin has like 10000 downloads and you even start charging 5 dollars a month for advanced features and like 1000 people pay. That's 5000 USD a month from one plugin. WordPress advertises your plugins. You don't need SEO, you don't need a whole development team, you don't need frontend or backend or UI and UX designers and all of that to do a plugin. The koko is the knowledge to even learn to build and develop a useful plugin in hidden from the public. Not much videos and courses so you need to read your eyes out and ask questions out there.

Just the same way you could build a MERN OR PERN app and get lucky and hit 10k subscribers with 3k MRR at 5 usd = 15k usd per month.....And also get unlucky designing a plugin nobody wants. These things happen. So much misinformation here. With regards to the jobs, a senior development role be it, php, python, c++ or javascript will command high remuneration that an entry-level role.......
And yes there are thousands of job offers for these stacks, Two things are just happening
1.) You are not just looking at the right places. and, even if you were
2.) You are not just qualified enough, cos

Cos the problem with these stacks, e.g. MERN, blah blah blah , is that they expose your deficiency pretty quickly. Unlike a plugin where it's just a one man's job and you could be average with it. Stack jobs often require a greater degree of expertise cos of the lots of moving things attached, eg. ci/cd, unit testing, data structures for the backend, performance[ Uncle Big 0], and scalability. Thus most roles you will see for these require a senior.
Up your game, and you won't have to create threads like this. In fact, if someone gives you a wordpress job to execute, you'll fling it away.

This is exactly my point. Those stacks aren't for junior developers looking to break into the Industry and also looking to make money with their skillsets. Someone said it's not even convincing to be a junior and a MERN stack developer. I love React but I am talking about making money especially as a developer at the junior level. You would have more chances with the wordpress, Shopify and Magento stuff than the MERN stack stuff.

Another thing is that people who are hiring for the other stuff that isn't cool don't care about your level of expertise. They don't care if you are a junior or senior. They just care that you get work done. So for someone looking to break early Into the industry and make some money, I feel this overlooked things are better to learn and master than the shiny stuff. The shiny stuff can be mastered later as you learn and grow as a developer.

Well, if you are argument is that for juniors, its nice to swing at WP et al, then it's valid, but based on the topic of the thread, which made it seem
like WP , php and co will give you more money, then that's false; and actually inverse.

The topic should have been why is that technologies that can enable a junior software developer to make money or get a job quickly are always hidden.

You are about to go into what is known as tutorial hell.

20 videos with more than 8 hrs length?

That's too much.

There are so many resources online for Javascript, you can start with www.w3schools.com or www.freecodecamp.org amongst others.

Tutorial Hell LOADING....

Bro u don't need many tutorials cos the truth of the matter still remains that u can't learn everything from those tutorials.

Take one or two then u start building anything, if you don't understand anything just Google it, the problem would probably have been solved somewhere, as Danny Thampson would say ABB (Always Be Building)

That's the best way to solidify your knowledge

I started this thread because of the other thread a nairalander made about monetizing his skills.

Most people who learn programming start this way. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React or angular or Vue and Node or python and Django. This are all great technologies but there aren't any easy to make money with. Getting a job with the MERN stack nowadays isn't easy. Node only powers 0.9 percent of websites globally and yet everyone wants to learn it. Hng internship everyone wanted Nodejs. 90 percent of the tech industry still uses relational and MySQL databases yet people are killing themselves over nosql databases like MongoDB and of recently graphql.

If you look on the freelance market, Upwork, Fiverr, freelancer et al and also look at the general job market you would see that there aren't that many opportunities for those stacks. The thing that gives people money, the things a junior developer can start to use to put money in their pocket isn't taught. Go and look up WordPress plugin development from youtube and there's just like two videos that explain the process. If you really want to get deeper into that, get ready to read your eyes out on the WordPress documentation. It's also the same thing with WordPress theme development. Magento is also another hot area. The largest E commerce platform in the world yet it's not taught anywhere. Shopify isn't also taught anywhere. Shopify uses liquid as its own programming language base. When was the last time you heard about this or saw anyone teaching or using it. Even the resources to learn these stuffs are very scanty.

I am presently working on a Shopify website and instead of coding a review page, I recommended to the client that we buy an app that does the same thing from the Shopify store. Would you believe a Shopify app which is basically just a JavaScript touch carousel that displays your reviews on your home page has 5 dollar monthly subscription with more than 10000 users. The theme the client is using. I had to rewrite most of the CSS. He bought it for 200 USD. I wonder how the theme was even accepted on Shopify. I mean this guys are banking low key and this are technologies no one talks about or even looks at. Everyone is MERN stack, MERN stack. If you mention WordPress they fit kill you or remove your head. Why does the tech industry hide where people can make money from men?
I guess this also has to do with what you want to do. Do you wanna get a job? Or do you want to be a freelancer?

If it's the former, then you learn the technologies in demand in the job market. If you want to be a freelancer, then you learn the techs that let you whip up something cool for your clients in no time. It's all about following the money.

PHP is the king of freelancing though.

True but not everyone will be lucky to get their first job fast and they still have to make money and gain real-world experience.

Get books on JavaScript also, not only videos, books explain more and like everyone will say, “Always Practice”

Google easy JavaScript projects you can start with, but of course,it is always a Todo list and it is not bad...

Just keep on practicing, read more book, I’d recommend head first JavaScript. Don’t try to learn everything at once, you will crash.
