Very unfortunate but very common among many people in this country.

I stumbled upon the HR's explanation on Twitter just now on why he used WhatsApp and didn't fully introduced and state the purpose of the communication in his opening message. Apparently he's tried reaching her through calls (multiple times) and she didn't pick (never called back). And he didn't even expect her to be on WhatsApp that minute to reply messages so he was about to introduce himself before she replied his first message.

Personally, I think if you provide your number and not be available to pick up calls from a prospective employer, you'd be very lucky if they go through more trouble to reach you through other means (WhatsApp in this instance).

Because of her behaviour - just like the HR - I definitely wouldn't hire her. In fact, I wouldn't hire her after 10 years still because respect for her is about status, condition and/or gain. Respect and courtesy I think, should be unconditional the very first encounter you have with ANYONE. Sensible and reasonable people give others the benefit of doubt atleast.

And guess what, she won't CHANGE or LEARN because of this. She's no kid anymore. Life must have put her in a situation where she should have learnt THIS LESSON beforehand. The older we get, the more reasonable and thoughtful we must become.

I'm just too nice and humble to want to see rudeness and crassness ever rewarded. Serves her damn right.

This is your OWN response. And not everyone will act the way you would under a given situation. Remember that
It's only normal you try to find out who you chatting with first..

Oga, read my inital post before you start commenting. I am not trying to justify anything here ; I am just only stressing on the loopholes the company failed to put in place in the recruitment process.

You can never predict the personalities of your clients in a working environment so patience and composure is an asset...

I agree, but try and look at it from this perspective : you receiving a text from an anonymous number on WhatsApp is a breach on your privacy and security. And as you know, this is 9ja, and you cannot vouch for the next man. So her response is only natural given the circumstances

You are right, but to judge her by this alone would not be fair. Remember, there are good people out there who cherish their privacy and may respond rudely if that privacy is touched.

So proud and arrogant. Parents have a lot of work to do on their girls.

Proud and arrogant over nothing. That's the worst part. Over just nothing significant. Over nothing of value just a clitoris and 2 breasts. No more

The job was not meant for her. Forget it. When something is yours, it doesn't matter what you do or don't do, you'll get it.

This is how so many people shut down doors God opened for them.

Don't apply for jobs or get good grades. Sit down and wait for it to come to you.

Don't advertise your hustle as a business person. Sit and wait for customers. What will come to you will come to you.

I do support the lady's rudeness, but the company should have informed her on the method they would use to contact her in case she was selected. It is just standard procedure.
and you didn't support her on losing the job? You don't tell the company on method of interview, they determine that.

No, the company didn't have to inform her the mode of contact. That is why you give your VALID numbers and mail addresses during job application.

They may want to test how you relate with people (strangers especially). The way you tested this aunty, I suppose.

They could have been formal too, like addressing her as Miss as they later did. It's a useless and unserious criteria for dismissing a potential worker.

Typical Nigerian girl, if it was me I will block her immediately, that was how one that I wanted to help did, I blocked her when she sounded so rude and when she realised who I was she started begging with different numbers, if not because of her mum that begged me and I took pity of her I would have given the slot to someone else..

So how would someone in diaspora contact you if you didnt include an email. This is 2020, people try to make things easier for themselves. I have seen SA and top govt officials communicate with people using WhatsApp call and WhatsApp message.

It is a part of interview. Your interviewers take you unawares to see exactly what you're made of. It is called a drill and you're not expected to be informed. When new doctors and nurses are employed in our emergence/accident unit maybe as interns or something, sometimes an ambulance will blare siren and pull up at the unit and those new guys will be monitored to evaluate how they apply all they have been thought with respect to their job. If you make mistake there, you might as well be denied. That's a test, and a drill.

Can you imagine?

She was feeling too big to pick her calls.
Yet, they went extra mile to chat her up.

Her false pride still spoil everything las las.

Oga, in saner climes, there is what we call a "Standard Procedure" of recruitment.

This is done by companies with an organised structure on ground and most of these companies (except you are running a mushroom company ) have this standard procedure for REACHING out to applicants. It can be through SMS, WhatsApp, Social media, Newspapers etc.

These companies will notify you(the applicant) prior to when the outcome of the interview is out.

And not through impromptu tactics being done here by this...this...chai! I do not know even know what to call this company sef.

She might have been rude but the company was very unprofessional trying to reach her on WhatsApp. What nonsense! Why not standard sms?

I think she has saved herself a ton of headache from an unethical lot.

No sir. It is the job of the company to tell you how they will communicate with you. A company with a well organized structure will not do the rubbish see in this post.

True, but the company should have been more specific on the method of communication. Some people cherish their privacy above ambition

Let her go and make a living with her privacy now.
We don't need to make excuses for them bro...90% of nigerian girls/ladies are just rude on first approach.
