THE NEXT DECADE SKILLS IS HERE, ACQUIRE IT!!

There was a time in Nigeria when all you needed to succeed was the ability to read and write English.

After that came the era of university degree.

In fact, you had the chances of getting a good job with a good salary.

Then came the era of Masters and PhD.

The demands of the Labour market went higher.

You had to have a masters or PhD to get a good job.

Before long it became the era of foreign degrees... employers started looking for people from foreign universities.

With alot of people getting certifications from unknown foreign universities.

Once the certificate is from abroad, people don't give a damn.

Even if it is from University of Sao Tome

Now that era has ended:

We are now in the era of skills.

What you know and what you can do with your brain or your hands.

Your level of education notwithstanding;

What matters right now is the skills that you have especially new age/digital skills.

So I ask you, what are you doing to remain relevant in your career?

Are you still carrying your certificate up and down with obsolete knowledge?

You need to LEARN, UNLEARN and RELEARN

The business world is evolving into ebusiness model, in the next decade 80% of all businesses will be online. You won't need the local Market; you shop online and have it delivered to your home, you won't need going to hospital, you have edoctors, epharmacies. You won't need Contemporary Schools; elearning will be the norms.

What this translates to is that, all these businesses will function with a Website or an App on playstore- or both. Web and App Developers will be in high demand, so don't be left behind.

Acquire Web Development and App Development skills today and stay relevant in the world of work

You can start with any general purpose programming languages. Persistence is very important. You should not give up unless you are forced to give up. Some links are given here. I know this may sound banal but you should learn HTML, CSS and JavaScript, here's why:

HTML is the basic building block for building web pages. It's like the most common standard when it comes to web programming. It's also SO easy to learn. I can even teach you all you need to know in 50 minutes.

CSS is the styling property of HTML elements. They are the reason you see so many colors and fancy designs in all websites. It's also very easy: 1 hour if you're dedicated.

JavaScript is like the "mover" in web development. It's the reason why you received an error message when you type in an invalid username, it's even used for some simple to complex animation in web pages. JavaScript is a very large language, but learning the basics is very easy and fast. JavaScript also has a very large ecosystem, so there are tons frameworks and libraries.

Most frameworks are built on these languages, so you must learn them.

If you are looking to build things like mp3 then you must know about embedded systems in a computer. You must also be understanding computer architecture and terms, Assembly language, processors etc.

For building apps like Snapchat, you can learn Native language like Java, Kotlin, JavaScript etc to code them. You can follow me if you're interested.

5 Mistakes Bloggers Make That Really Affect Their Web

Many bloggers (especially Nigerian blogger) make this mistake often. This article is going to help in solving 50% of bloggers problem. Please, I would advise you to grab your pen and jot something down.

1. Failure to Update Their Web: Being a blogger is not just by mere slogan. You have to take it personal, so as to excel in it. If you are a blogger that have a job which is fetching you monthly income, it is much advisable you employ a content writer on your web. At times, website visitors would lack interest in a web, when the writer or content creator on the web fails to update the web as times goes on. Let’s take a news website as an example; when you fail to update your visitors every second, minutes, and hours; definitely you would end up losing them.

Due to the numerous "i want to start programming, which language should i start with" threads on this board i decided to create a thread that will address this issue. I am not a wonderful writer and i won't say i know it all but i will try. I urge every one on this board to correct me where i err an also contribute in whatever way you can to make this thread worth it. I will try as much as possible not to be biased in this write up.

I am not going to go into detail in defining what programming is because i will assume before entering this thread you should already know what programming is. But in summary programming is the act of creating whatever you want with your brain and computer programming is the act of creating whatever you want with your brain and a computer. You can read more from

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_programming

Programmers could also be called software programmers, software developers and other big-big names you can think of.

Feel free to ask your questions, i will try and answer the ones i can my Ogas in the house will help me with those i can't answer

Please every Programmer should try as much as possible to check on this thread once in a while to help answer some questions Newbies would like to ask.

Hello everyone..I am aspiring to be a full stack web developer..I have learnt HTML5 already and currently on CSS and python..
The new laptop I got has developed fault and it has destroyed completely .. someone bought it for me actually..coding with an android phone has been slowing down my progression because I am used to a PC...and the battery is not strong. As a matter of fact,it is not helping my progression..
I applied for #laptopfordevelopers on Twitter but I was not selected for the final stage..
If anyone here can help me with a spare or old/used laptop,I will be glad because I am not financially ok and I don't want my programming dream to be dashed away...

Hello everyone

Have you ever been caught by an unexpected maintenance problem?

We are a Startup, aspiring to build software on a computerized maintenance management system.

We have created a short survey and your response will be greatly appreciated.

We are trying to understand how personnel feels on the production floor if they report an issue and the issue is not attended to.

We hope to use the information to create an exact solution to close the communication gap.
The survey link is  MAINTAIL - Converting Maintenance Problems into Opportunities (kilab.eu)

Kudos to the bosses for taking their time in answering most questions here. I also have interest in programming but I don't know which language to start with as a beginner and also currently I don't have a laptop that I can use in learning but I have an android phone and am willing to get a laptop very soon.

I do think programming is only for people that are good in math cos am not that good in mathematics, so I want to know if programming is only for people that are good in mathematics?.

How many hours can I devote in learning programming a day?.

Thanks.

why not python? Cos to me, coding on python is quiet easy.
I started with java but now I wan swerve to python. Or Is it because I've not gone deep into python that's making me feel like it's easy?

I personally recommend to go with Python As:
- Super user-friendly
- Written in plain English
- Perfect for quick scripting and patching some exploits ( In case you paved your way to Cyber Security)
- Has many libraries to extend it's functionality
- Can do many things from basic applications to big projects like parsing and handling large data sets
- Robust and can work in any environment
