That's the point - it is not material things that makes for a person's happiness otherwise developed countries won't have higher suicide rates. There are many social supports she'd have had in Nigeria that are not available to her in Canada.
The weather is not a problem if you are HAPPY. Complaining about weather is just a sign of general unhapiness

Some food for thoughts:

I think that in Nigeria we don't feel things because of the everyday struggles, hence our immediate concern is survival. That does not make us happier per se nor does that mean we don't have a lot of people with chemicals inbalance.

The difference is that in the "West" they have conquered the basic needs and as such can "afford to feel". Maybe when we achieve that level of economic freedom and freedom from religious stigma attached to speaking openly about suicide we may experience a spike.

I remember reading somewhere about a study that was conducted long time ago. In the study it was observed that being a protestant or non Christian (it has been a while can remember the exact details) increases your odds of committing suicides than being a Catholic.

Much later a new study found that during the period when the old study was conducted, committing suicide means the church won't bury you and you are as good as going straight to hell.
So most Catholic families would rather report a different cause of dead than suicide.

Just trying to point out how time and place can mask the true magnitude of events.

For the fact that life has given her a leg up and she chose to hold on to little inconvenience is what pissed me off ( without me considering there could be other underlying reasons for her complaints).

Bros I sieve through reports of children health across the globe everyday and of women's health. I get piss when I see people with better opportunities in life nag about things that deos not matter.

Here most of my colleagues have learnt not to complain about the train or metro delaying for 5 minutes (for them it ruin their joy for the rest of the day) . Funny thing is that most of them that have lived elsewhere Africa and South America never complain about the little live inconveniences but they have come to appreciate life more.

Yes, I should have chose my choice of words nicely but being a Nigerian "you know as e dey do us for body"

For someone who has been living abroad for a while and who likes to write and research a lot, your display of ignorance here is mindboggling. That you are trying to downplay the severity of an extremely cold climate on human welfare is startling. Its not a coincidence that the Arctic and Antarctica are less inhabited than the Sahara region.

How the heavens could you ignorantly say that heat kills more people than cold so confidently and then try to justify it with some lame humidity vs temperature theory when your gaffe was exposed? Its not even close at all. If as a research inclined person, you propagate unfounded lies like this all in a bid to criticize someone's opinion of their living conditions, then your sense of objectivity is profoundly suspect.

Extremely cold weather is a big deal, even to the whites. That they have found a way to cope with it does not make it less of an issue.

The guy already told you what's up. Do you see men making videos of this stuff? No. They take care of shiit but despite her complaints, yet she won't still return to Nigeria.

So what's the essence of her complaints na? Should we come to help her pack the snow or what?.. ....

She is lonely? Eh can get a dog or cat or something na

Did you not hear her say that it is the price they have to pay for bad leadership in Nigeria? She understands that. Women express themselves on things that bite them inside that is why they typically live longer than men who would rather bottle it up inside.

Leave her let her voice out. it helps to reduce the effects of frustrations.

What causes suicide is hopelessness and lack of human connection, which are both abundant in developed countries. Struggling or fighting with your neighbor do not cause suicide.
See below about sunshine:

5 Ways the Sun Impacts Your Mental and Physical Health

1. Increased Vitamin D

Vitamin D has some important functions in the body. It promotes reduced inflammation and modulates cell growth. It’s also very hard to get enough from food sources alone.

2. Improved Mood

It turns out “sunny disposition” is more than just an expression: Researchers at BYU found more mental health distress in people during seasons with little sun exposure. On the contrary, days with plenty of sunshine were associated with better mental health — in fact, the availability of sunshine has more impact on mood than rainfall, temperature, or any other environmental factor.

3. Higher Quality Sleep

That serotonin you soak up from the sun’s rays does more than boost your mood – it might also help you get more restful sleep at night.

4. Stronger Bones

Remember how we mentioned Vitamin D does some pretty important stuff for your body?

5. Lower Blood Pressure

When sunlight hits your skin, your body releases something called nitric oxide into your blood.

Another one quick to type. Did you read my comments about nresearch on cold killing more than heat. Did you read the short comings of the objections in the paper.

Can you point where I said heat kill more? What I said was compare the number of deaths from heatwaves. Couldn't that be that there it is not cold that people also have it bad in hot weather?

If I would stick to your line of argument do you know that more people die of heat in Nigeria than cold? Over the years more people have died of extreme heat than cold in warm climate. Do you see my point?

But on a serious note my point to you guys is that people in tropical climate have issued to contend with and shoving snow is the least of things to complain about.

In addition can you point out where I said that extreme weather is not an issue? Meanwhile can you point out any place with relative extreme hot weather whose opposite is that of Arctic and Antarctica that people live in? Extreme weather both cold and hot are dangerous.

You make me laugh. No shortcomings of any research can disprove the fact that globally, cold weather is a higher leading cause of death than hot weather. Your arguments are here and there and they lack a tangible focal point.

You saying more people die of heat in India and Nigeria than cold. Lol, before nko, are those not tropical countries? Is it heat that will kill people more in Iceland for example when its a temperate country? This line of thought isn't fit for an intellectual discourse as it does not negate the fact that Cold weather kills more people directly than hot weather GLOBALLY.

And I mentioned the Sahara desert as a perfect contrast to the Antarctica. Yet more people live in the Sahara region (Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Western Sahara, Northern Nigeria) than the Antarctica and Arctic combined (even though both combined are larger in size than the Sahara). That you do not know this fact portrays you as a pseudo-intellectual.

I have no problem with you having problem with the Lady's snow-shovelling time. What I have an issue with is you saying that Cold weather is less dangerous than hot weather globally and trying to justify the false assertion wrongly, instead of just admitting the obvious gaffe and moving on.

There is that type of depression but the more prevalent one is one that is TRIGGERED by circumstances - hopelessness, lack of sun light, lack of human connection (even bad one). There are many people who go into depression in winter and recover in summer

I can see how you mixing issues. For one Sahara desert has one of the lowest population densities on the planet. Secondly there is a reason why most of the population around this areas are clustered around largest lake and rivers. Which in all comparison waters down whatever one to one comparison you want to make about the harshness the coldest and largest desert in the world. I am struggling to find where I said so. I was pointing out the fact that even the so called warm weather isn't rosy.

I would think by now you should have understood that you were quick to reach conclusion on my statement without asking for further clarification.

Edit.

I don't know what you do for a living. But I will put this out for those who care. Results from global studies more especially based on self reported data should be interpreted with utmost caution.

Using extreme weather for example. Extreme hot weather are mostly found in poor or third world countries ( by third world I meant as per economy not their involvement in world wars. Before you accuse me of something I did not say again grin). These countries are notorious for having poor records and more so under reporting.

It could be that globally the true magnitude of the difference in the mortality associated to cold weather and hot weather is what is reported or the magnitude cold be less if those poor resource countries have the capability and will to report and update their data.

Let me bring this home for you.
I recall a certain flood incident in Nigeria (I won't mention the community). NEMA was quick on ground collected data and it took them several months to get around to analysing and reporting their findings.

By the time they did some of the identified fammers that needed help were already dead several months before the arrival of aids. Most of aids were already bad after sitting several months in warehouses while waiting for data from the field before disbursement.

This is more than 2 years and I am yet to find that specific data on one of European global extreme weather database.

If the lady in Canada likes she can complain till tomorrow that is her God given rights.

You stated and I quote "Experience master, did you know that more people die from heat waves each year than from cold?"

Now that statement above is a complete lie. So saying a lot of story subsequently that is irrelevant to the purported statement does not make any sense. I suggest that you swallow your mistake and move on. Progression in science is not based on the kind of irrelevant long-winded reasonings you are exhibiting here.

I looked at the edited part you added and see that you are even contradicting yourself. If studies that demonstrate that cold weather is more dangerous should be interpreted with caution simply because of possible incomplete data from tropical 3rd world countries, on what logical basis are you then asserting the opposite so confidently without any verifiable data

so shoving snow that takes less than 2 minutes is so life crushing that she sees it as a sacrifice?

Some people really knows how to nag.

If her full senses were working she would have known that people have been living there and other colder places for thousands of years. Even with the cold there are people who would still leave a safe warm climate and migrate to colder regions.

If not that she is chasing clout, she would have known that one of the "worst" places to live in is the tropical weather. Infested with bugs, mosquitoes, venomous reptiles and other disease carrying rodents ( almost all year round) before crying over cold weather that last not more than 6 months all together in a year.

She should stop nagging and come home, after all even with insecurity that she is complaining about, 200 millions Nigerians are still living in Naija.

Instead of being grateful to God for the opportunity she is here nagging.

Edit.

For those of your insulting me. Look up the number of people that died from heatwaves in the last years and compare to dying from cold.

Or the number of people dying from hunger or malaria (tropical disease) every year.

My point is life is not easy anywhere and shoving off snow off your car is a little inconvenience compare to what most people go through in lives everyday around the world.

When are we going to start appreciating God's favor in our lives?

Living in an extremely cold environment has a way of shutting down the body system.

If there's too much snow outside, quietly retreat into your home, watch TV or go online and do something useful since you've regular electric supply.
