1. Agro crowdfunding investment:
-weight: 43% of investment portfolio
-average annual return: 30%
-Status: performing (so far)
-loss suffered/write down: 0% so far grin

Analysis and Decision: Returns have been fairly decent and I look to increase my investment in this class of investment. Although with the rate of agrotech default in the news, I think I'll be shifting to reputable platforms such Requid and Piggyvest. Lower returns, but I sleep better at night

2. Mutual fund
-weight: 15.6% of investment portfolio
-average return: -8%
-status: performing
-net loss suffered so far: probably around 4%

Analysis & Decision: I invested via cowrywise. I started early in the year, focused on two categories of mutual fund: dollar-driven and islamic. I made about 5-7% on each class in about 3 months but cowrywise started acting funny (locking users from their accounts).

I paniced and joined d multitude of sell-pressure, taking a loss of about 3% in the process.

Jumped in again Nov dis year on the backdrop of about 10-15% gain in 3 months in mutual fund trends. Unfortunately I mis-timed and currently take a loss of about 8% (curse cowrywise undecided).

Decision: I intend to average down my loss by increasing my stake by atleast 50%. I think people sold massively to cash out and spend their gain come december. I expect it to rise again as people come back to investing in January and naira keeps depreciating as usual cheesy

3. Cash deposit:

-Weight: 7%
-av annual return: 8%
- status: performing

Analysis: kept with the a digital wallet, 1 year tenor (revokable). Just flat 8%, nothing fancy.

Decision: no plan to increase it, returns too low. I just keep it to maintain liquidity

Depends on the amount you want to invest. Your investment plan is suitable for high income earners like an oil company worker, a professional athlete, NNPC/CBN staff, a civil/public servant above level 14 , a Nigerian politician or a business man with consistent income flow.

If you earn below 200,000 monthly, I think you should consider starting a business in 2021.

Well, I try to be conservative. There's very little investor protection in Nigeria, so best is to maintain a well diversified portfolio. I typically start with nothing more than 100k and dont scale up until the investment proves itself credible. Thankfully that kept me away from the likes of MBA forex and I also dont do any business I'm not clear on.

As per running a business, its quite challenging finding time and the few times I tried using people to run a business, my fingers got burnt

4. Direct investment in business (agro sector)
-weight: 6.3% of total portfolio
-average return: 0%
-status: non-performing

Analysis - underlines the risks in directly investing in people's business, especially when there is "familiarity". I actually promised to invest a fixed amount every month till it reached 30% of my total portfolio but cut it short when I started sensing its a crystallizing loss grin. Only managed to recover 25% of my investment, not even talking the returns at all.

Decision- I intend to write it off after Feb 2021 if I dont get any traction on recovery of my investment.

Many of these starts-up need continuous capital to accomodate them through their startup stage. I think they may eventually make profit but they start with losses. Unfortunately many of these entrepreneurs are too ambitious to admit it. So they send projections showing they start making profit from month 1 grin, when in reality they may only make a profit in year 5 (and its even a "may"wink

DONT INVEST ANY MONEY YOU CANT AFFORD TO LOSS IN A STARTUP BUSINESS & AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE AVOID INVESTING IN A BUSINESS RUN BY SOMEONE YOU HAVE A RELATIONSHIP OTHER THAN BUSINESS

Thank you for sharing. It has helped me draw out a strategic plan for my investment and writing it down. The later being so important.

Hedging against naira depreciation is one major project for 2021 as all signs projects towards it taking a hit. So, we must find a way to earn in FX even if it means learning new relevant skills.

Just to ask, you did not mention real estate. Are you not looking towards that?

Please can you inform which mutual funds have been able to bounce back to 10-15%?

Please can you inform which mutual funds have been able to bounce back to 10-15%?

Nigerian International Debt Fund

First pic - one of my entry prices when in early oct - 300+

2nd price - price in late oct (that's the farthest the online price record can go back now)

3rd price - price in Dec

Nb - there was a 6% drop shortly after I joined (I believe it was profit-taking by investors), by early next year, there will likely be a strong push.
