Ango Abdullahi says this is as a result of the failed presidential system of government and the urgent need for it to be dismantled and replaced with a parliamentary system of government.

This is more like it. The North is running the risk of creating a situation where serious disaffection of its leadership of Nigeria may lead to eventualities we may all regret.

The North will have had 8 uninterrupted years in power by 2023. What I expect the region to be doing now is pushing hard so that Buhari leaves a legacy of overall favourable rule the North can leverage on to seek power again in future.

The North has no business trying to continue after Buhari when the region has not been seen to be proactive in addressing the major problems of Nigeria in Buhari's 5 years in office so far.

Buhari has tried in some areas but he will still be judged as a giver of fish rather than the leader who taught Nigerians to fish by the time his tenure is over.

Things like restructuring, state policing, devolution of more power to tiers of governance, State and regional autonomy and constitutional review will go a very long way to teaching Nigerians, at least those desirous of progress, to fish.

What Buhari and the North are doing, at least in the eyes of the world, appears a deliberate attempt to hold back the rest of Nigeria merely because the North is not ready to shed the parasitism and over-reliance on central control of government and her parastatals as the region has always been accused of.

Unless more Northerners start to think and talk like Ango Abdullahi then it is obvious a time will come when the disunited South will have no choice but to unanimously reject Northern rule outright.
