Abia State was created in August 27th 1991 from the old Imo state. Aba is its commercial center. It is a member of the NDDC community. How has it faired ever since return to democracy in 1999?

UPs -
1. Still an Enterprising State. "Aba made" commodities have been given a boost from the state and federal government. There are products for all categories of spenders. The people's resilience to commerce and industry is top notch.

2. High literacy rate is maintained. Whether in Arochukwu, Bende, Isikwuato, Ngwa, Ukwa, etc..... or Umuahia, there is high literacy rate.

DOWNs -
1. Poor Infrastructure. Roads, Drainages and Waste Management are not consistently maintained especially in Aba. The state capital - Umuahia, is more or less a sleepy town. Aba, an industrial city is a shadow of its true beauty. With all the megabillions generated there, there is nothing to show for it.

2. Apathy. Abians in Abia have this i-dont-care-attitude towards governance. After the 2015 ikpeazu/otti saga, everyone went to sleep. Some took solace in IPOB activities as a way of escaping the political palaver there. A lot have given up in the Nigerian project.

Abia needs a strong-willed technocratic leader. An economist who can use the resources of the day judiciously.

Aba is still attracting meaningful FDI but it's infrastructure is just average.
Please leave our politicians alone, they are all the same. Ori,ovi, ouk, ogah etc. They where cut from the same cloth and their hands has always been in the state dish

@OP.......the poverty head count picture you attached there is misleading.

Kebbi came before Enugu in poverty count

Osun, Oyo, Delta coming before Anambra is another fallacy to behold.

Ebonyi has left high poverty indices since the emergence of Umahi's administration.

The bane of under-development in Abia is poor governance. Despite billions generated–Federal allocation, NDDC, IGR etc, Abia hasn't fared well under Ikpeazu. That's why IPOB has taken over the hearts of ndi Aba.

I hope they get it right 2023.

..
I don't know your definition of getting it right..
But have this in mind..
In 2023 we Ndi Ngwa will still vote in an Ngwa man...
It a pity that Ngwa is sharing a state with folks that has only hatred for them...
All the trash in ABA are caused by non Ngwa...
Who has almost emptied there village for ABA..
