Sampson Itode , Port Harcourt

Rivers State Governor , Nyesom Wike , has charged the Federal Government to do more for the Nigerian armed forces who are playing a significant part in ensuring that the civil populace enjoys a peaceful country , coupled with their commitment to safeguarding the sovereignty of the country .

Wike stated this at the inter -denominational church service in Port Harcourt on Sunday , marking the 2021 Armed Forces Remembrance day celebration .

A Special Assistant to the Governor on Media , Kelvin Ebiri, in a statement quoted Wike as saying that an annual remembrance day celebration for the armed forces was not enough to cater for soldiers who suffered injuries or paid the ultimate price while defending the country .
Wike, however, advocated for special recognition for the fallen heroes as well as soldiers still diligently fighting bandits and insurgents in some parts of the country .

Wike said, “ It is not easy when people would say for the sake of this country , we are willing to make sacrifices . They laid down their lives to protect us. While some of us will be sleeping , they are busy , fighting to defend the country , the sovereignty of this country .

“ In the course of doing that, so many died, some get injured to the point they can ’t be useful to themselves again all their life . You know how painful it is that a man goes to work with the hope that he’ s coming back home , but the children are later told that they have lost their dad because he went to protect the country .

“ So, we must have a special recognition for our fallen heroes and to those who are still in the Armed Forces fighting . See what is going on in Borno and Yobe states and all over the country ; banditry, insurgencies .

“ So, for us, we think that the government should come up with something concrete that when they go out and fight , their families will know that there is something their parents have kept that will cater for their children .”

Meanwhile, a former Governor of Imo State , Senator Rochas Okorocha would on Monday commission the Rumuche -Rumuakunde - Ohna Awuse Road in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State .

According to a statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications , Paulinus Nsirim, Okorocha who would be hosted in the state by Governor Nyesom Wike as Special Guest of Honour at the commissioning event scheduled for 11 am.

The Armed Forces is very important, no one can deny that. So there's nothing wrong in calling the FG to "do more".

However, the FG needs to be deliberate on what it needs to do.

Are members of the Armed Forces not motivated, are they properly armed, are they satisfied with their welfare package?

These and more are questions that needs to be asked.

They also need reorientation, because assaulting civilians seems to be a norm for them

President Muhammadu Buhari approved $1 billion for the purchase of military hardware for the use of the nigerian Armed Forces

Our soldiers need all the support they can get to end this evil that the devilish party bestowed on our nation before they left.

We will win this war as a nation.

God bless our gallant soldiers as they lay their lives on the line for peace to reign in our darling nation.

Hmm.... hopefully, doing more isn't necessarily spending more. At this point, there's need to be strategic and a change in their leadership is necessary.

They should also be sincere with themselves. The leadership of the security agencies don't do much for the rank and file who are the back bones of the agencies.

The FG has really tried for the military but is the military trying for itself. Senior officers depriving the rank and file of benefits and putting them in harm's way at will.

If your party focuses more on why they were elected perhaps they might start working to fix it because excuse is never a good reasons to fail. Meanwhile, is PDP not the same people running the APC now? Even the real party politicians who are directly eating from the national cake know that they are both one and the same. Na you wey dem dey give peanut dey think say you know pass Dem!!! PDP=APC and they both don't mean well for the country.

Hmm I wonder if this evil govt even have any plan for the army

you want to end insecurity and yet you will never equip the military with weapons as sophisticated as the ones used by their enemies

you keep squandering the money that should be used to upgrade the army

you keep treating terrorism with kids glove and reintegrating them into the society

you never say 1kobo truth with regards to what the military are faced with all you do is lie lie and even more lies

the army guys in turn take out this frustration on innocent civilians for the least frivolity and you hear them use the term BLOODY CIVILIANS like the are better than anyone who is not on karki

I love this Country but with this kind of system and apcheat evil govt and their brothers pdthief this country is on a fast lane to doom
