U-17 Wafu Zone B Tourney: Golden Eaglets Qualify For Semi-finals, To Face Burkina Faso

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria have qualified for the semi-finals of the U-17 WAFU Zone B qualifiers in Lome, Togo, Completesports.com reports.

The Fatai Amoo-led side’s quantification into the last four was confirmed after Cote d’Ivoire beat Ghana 3-1 in their second Group B game on Tuesday.

The Eaglets lost 1-0 to Cote d’Ivoire in their opening game before drawing 1-1 with Ghana in their second fixture.

And to stand a chance of advancing into the last four the Nigerians needed Cote d’Ivoire to beat Ghana by a wider goal margin.

After the end of the group games, Cote d’Ivoire topped with six points while the Eaglets finished second with one point.

Both the Eaglets and Ghana had a point each but the Nigeian side advanced on superior goals difference.

Following their qualification, the Eaglets will now face Group A winners Burkina Faso in the semi-finals and Cote d’Ivoire will tackle Niger Republic.

Both semi-finals will take place on Friday 15 January.

The two teams that emerge from the semi-finals will qualify for the 2021 U-17 AFCON which will be hosted in Morocco.

Group B

Nigeria

Ghana

Cote d’Ivoire

Group B has only 3 countries and so played only two games.

Cote d’Ivoire defeated Nigeria 1-0 and Ghana 3-1 to top group B while Nigeria came second with one point in two games to set up semifinal clash with group A table topper.

Actually cote d'ivoire did all the job to enable Nigeria qualify

congrats...they look young shaa but Its still funny to agree that we easily dominate this u-17, struggle in the u-21, and suffer In the main national team but they are so many factors involved shaa...
back then I thought dominating In this u-17 competitions really means that the future is bright, maybe it doesn't work in naija where anything goes..

bros abeeg forget that MRI test because that thing na scam,a cousin of mine participated in that u-17 naija hosted and all of us in the family did dry fasting n prayer for him to be successful and he was highly favored and my dad even gave testimony with dt miracle..
do you know the real age of a stanley okoro of that same set?? or the age of a cetain defender that was their captain dt even had kids?? make I no talk shaa, because am not sure about how they were screened because that same squad would have been banned if the screening really worked
MRI just scan the bones but it isn't even close to being perfect, I even heard players would be placed on special diet to help them easily pass the test..

yes, I agree if you say MRI wasnt used them because am not sure and I also agree that the age going by the faces am seeing is more better and younger than previous sets and that's a good way forward even I they may look inexperienced and struggle to win it..
at least its better that we are building a younger team for the future, thats if corruption would allow those at the top do tinz right..

MRI forcing the NFF to play actual under 17 boys is what I love to see.. if they can’t rely on 80 year old Stanly Okoro to cheat their way to the cup..
Maybe, just maybe they might finally decide to invest in real age grade tournaments

But knowing Naija administrators.... they’ll just focus on foreign based players undecided
They rather die that do actual work

The "wobble and fumble" team of Nigeria! Must we always rely on the outcome of other matches to qualify or otherwise? Well thanks to Cote D'evoir for the help. I hope they didn't help us because they felt we will be an easier team to beat in the final

MRI is not flawless. Nigeria won two U17 tourney even after MRI was introduced. The preparation for the competition is poor, hence selection of the best set of players wasn't done thoroughly

The name of that defender cum captain of that 2009 Golden Eaglets squad is Chukwudi Fortune from Rivers state. I recall former Green Eagles player in the 80's, a Rivers indigene and a renowned lawyer Adokiye Amieseamaka was shouting "this guy is not under 17" then but even the NFF didn't care because it was business as usual for them. Otherwise how can a player who was around 18 or more in 2002 become under 17 in 2009? It's the reason they never really go on to achieve great things like their European counterparts, pathetic..

In anyways, since the introduction of MRI by FIFA we've been parading actual young players but whether they're really under 17 is another kettle of fish. I hear the technology doesn't tell actual age but gives a range so they could be in the age range, say between 17 and 19/20.

The squad looks really young but the junior Burkinabe's and the Ivoriens look way older.. NFF has to step up their youth developmental program.
