You guys are funny. A 19 year old can marry but in what circumstances? Let me explain.

If you head out to Europe for example, a 19 year old has the mentality of a 29 year old Nigerian female.

Lol... You guys must be thinking so low of yourselves in Africa these days. I don't like to make such comparisons but if I ever have to, I'd gladly tell you a Nigerian teen is 100 times readier to take on the responsibilities of womanhood than teens out here in the western world.

You may have to wait till you leave teenage years.

Statistics show people who marry below 20 are likely to divorce before five years.

And that's because they haven't discovered themselves.

Let's make marriage honourable before God.

We have to be physically, emotionally, spiritually, and financially ready.

I can share you a book for free to guide you if you are truly ready for marriage.
hmmmm.... those researchs are mostly carried out in d west (and na there divorce plenty pass...mind u most of them don't marry below 20)....so that means d research is bullshit

let reason am na they're too young to marry but not too young to start having sexual intercourse (since they're adult)...

we claim (especially we Africans) to frown at fornication but we condemn early marriage yet we know what dis generation (even older generations) do at a very tender age...

We should try not to discourage early marriage.

No
18 is regarded as adult

Marry early and avoid training kids with grey hair

19 is too early in my opinion. However, it is better to be married at 19 than for you to be in an unstable/unconfirmed relationship acting like you are married.

Even if you marry her at 19 or 20 or 23. Make sure:
- she is educated
- can work/feed in the event of your demise through education or trades
- no kids until she completes the above.

Good luck.

You guys are funny. A 19 year old can marry but in what circumstances? Let me explain.

If you head out to Europe for example, a 19 year old has the mentality of a 29 year old Nigerian female. They are very sexually active, they are gainfully employed even if they're schooling and they mostly are living alone away from their parents. Same in North America. You'd see a 19 year old entrepreneur worth hundreds of thousands of dollars with a business she started in high school or from acting or singing or even sports. These teens can marry but there's no saying how long the marriage will last because Oyinbo people are not exactly the most faithful bunch.
Here in Nigeria, marrying a 19 year old is marrying a huge liability. If her parents are comfortable enough to send her to the university and let's assume she finished high school at 16, she would still be in the university and no such parent will give out their daughter unless she got pregnant. In the case that her parents are part of the more than 150 million people living in poverty, they will give her out especially to someone who as a result of the marriage will lift the entire family out of poverty. The education of the siblings of the said teen would be the responsibility of the newly wedded husband as well as the well being of his new in-laws not mentioning the very many other baggage attached.
Marrying a 19 year old in 2021 anywhere in the world is legal and will mostly end in premium tears.

Una too dey misyarn for this forum sef grin

How many 19 year old in Europe have a hundred thousand pounds business? It's rare af and if they exist, they're the exception not the rule.

In fact, the average salary in the UK for example after four years of uni is 34,000 pounds. You'll likely find more 19 year olds in Universities while working minimum wage jobs than you'll find one with a business worth over a hundred thousand

Personally, I don’t think so. However, before I get into answering this question, I need you to keep in mind two things:

I know of a 22 year old female who wants to get married to build a new family and escape an often-tense household. At that age she's young and “brash”.
My great grandmother was married at 18 to a wonderful husband who helped her deal with an abusive, alcoholic father. They raised children together and built a loving family. Those children are my grandmother, great aunt, and great uncle, and I love them all very much. Thus I’ve experienced a positive outcome to a young marriage firsthand.

Okay, that being set aside: no, if you are truly committed to your spouse, getting married in your 20s is not too young. If both parties are legal adults in the area in which you plan to get married, then everything should be fine. However, getting married in your 20s can only work out if it’s done right. Here are a few things I would recommend that you and your spouse-to-be consider:

- Is this legal? Chances are, if you are both in your 20s, your marriage is legal where you live. Unfortunately, LGBT+ marriages can face legal barriers depending on where you want to get married, but straight marriages in your 20s are almost always legal.
-If you are religious, what do your religious beliefs say about early marriage? I’m a Christian, so I can’t speak for all religions, but if your moral beliefs are in favor of “waiting until marriage” and you and your future spouse are anxious to have children or live together, marriage may be a good thing. Some cultures require parental consent from both sides of the new family before getting married, so you may need to make sure your parents are on board.
-Are you using the marriage as a form of escapism? Make sure that you’re getting married because you really truly love this person, not because you want to escape an abusive family. There are many resources available for those in abusive households, don’t feel the need to create a new and hopefully better family right away. These things take time.
-Can you financially provide for each other? If you are in your early 20s and just starting out in the world, chances are neither of you are wealthy. At least one of you needs to be financially secure so that you can find a place to live, pay the bills, and maybe raise kids and pets down the road.
-Do you have plans for children and/or pets? Make sure that you and your spouse to be are on the same page about children and animals and that you both have the same viewpoints when it comes to expanding your family. If one or both of you already have children or animals, how will the marriage affect them? Would it be better to postpone the marriage until you can secure a better life for a baby, puppy, small pet, or another being who has no say in the matter?

Once you’ve considered all these things, and you think you’re really, truly ready, have the wedding! I wish you the best of luck and God bless!

I was discussing a point with someone and you gave a perfect example. It was in the era of our great grandparents and maybe grandparents that such early marriages were successful and fruitful

How many in comparison to the entire population of 19 year old youths in the UK?

You take the top 1 or 2% and apply it generally?
LMAO.

You're the type of person who reads one or two case study and thinks it applies generally. Go read a book

So what? The teen in Nigeria is in Nigeria and the one in the West is in the West. Each should be measured based on their readiness to take on responsibilities in their respective societies. And I'm saying the statement you made about the 19 year old in the West thinking like a 29 year old in Nigeria is shameful and untrue. A teenager who's just finishing secondary school here can barely take care of herself. Nigerians would prefer them cause they might be more likely to offer stress free sex but don't make the mistake of thinking they're anywhere close to being ready to make a home. Let's stop this stuff with always trying to rubbish women in Nigeria even when it's clearly dumb.

You've not said anything. I am not a woman so your words can't hurt me. Your statement just wasn't factual. It doesn't hurt to take your words back, though I'm not expecting you to. I only needed to point that out so you wouldn't mislead others with your own low self perception.
