As an HR person, I probably don't have much information about their operations abroad. But then using the Nigeria operation as a case study, I would say drivers can't be regarded as a employee to the Ehailing company..

The Ehailing company has very limited control over the operations of the drivers.

As a matter of fact in their organigram rider will have a higher placing than drivers.

They are more of a service provider, we the drivers are the real transport scheme.

Let's imagine it this way that when bolt or Uber entered Nigeria they went to the yellow taxi asso to pitch their idea of creating a system whereby they can easily link prospective riders to them and they all embrace it, are we going to call the taxi people their employee.

As long as what bolt and Uber provide is the App to connect both riders and drivers....the drivers still remain an independent body.

Bruv i know u didn’t insult him but saying the mereger 3k means nothing to you but u quickly used that to shade him as him he had not done more than that in the past is not fair.

He has never done anything for me at all cos i don’t know him but we know what he has done in this platform.

We also know those that has 10 cars here that has never ever ever kept their promise here before even 1k promise has never been fulfilled.

And besides he gave reasons why he didn’t fulfill the promise to you but to some one else that did the job.

Not fair? Like i said before, I only stated what I experienced, I don't care if he has done for others. To prove that, I acknowledged knowledge of him doing for others. But the 20k promise is very similar to my experience that's why I commented, nothing more I swear.
Me and dru23 don dey tackle each other for years but nothing malicious, we always live to fight another day wink

As long as uber/bolt has the power to sack (block) you because of rating then you are an employee to them because they dictate how you should do your work. If you're self employed then all terms and conditions should be yours to make

Baba WA gbayi. That's why Uber sent that 26 page document before you could go online....

You dictate the terms n you still say I'm self employed....
That's a sane society, the drivers know the laws, you can't come around and push them over cos they are driving...

They take 25% off you and still want to control your itinerary.

Yes you're right! If saving with the bank is your source of income then you're an employee to them.
You mentioned Ts and Cs in contractual relationship, how many partnership Ts and Cs do you see where it's only one party that has all the inputs and the other party has no say whether it favours them or it's against them?

Yes you can delete bolt today just the way you can decide to resign from that work that doesn't pay you well, that doesn't mean you were not their employee

I think your understanding of the operational term "Employee and Employer " need to be brushed up.

An employee is a person employed for wages or salary. Bolt or Uber don't pay you wages nor salary rather you Pay them commission.

If the terms and condition of operation is exclusive to Uber or bolt it's a generic practice....just like Facebook , Instagram and other social service apps have theirs. They block rider and as well as Drivers.

Going by your perspective, if Dru gives felicity a car on rental to drive using the bolt and Uber platform, who is Felicity employer?

Need I even tell you that the relationship between a renter and a rentee is not that of an employment relationship, it's just a business relationship as long as the renter pays an agreed commission.

Pin this statement. That news shared by madam rad about Uber drivers now regarded as employee in the USA, watch how Uber will draft an employee handbook which will offer them more control over the drivers.

Peace

Una too like trouble for this thread.

IFSHR, u sabi book, abi u sabi law pass UK supreme court? Can u freely and boldly say u r independent in this relationship with e-hailing coys?? I doubt that. Upon all the restrictions and regulations they can't provide us with the basic things like HMO, insurance, safety, security, representation in police cases, loans etc. They reduce fares without considering us, making us work like elephants and eat like ants, how can u stress urself, risk ur life like this from morning till night and u can't boast of 10k. So the UK drivers took them to court for those reasons and the only way to make them responsible for drivers is to claim that drivers are technically employees of the e-hailing coys.

It may redefine the operations, but I think it's a good step, if u want to control me and force me to give ur customers good service then I need to be compensated for it. They should pay us global minimum wage ($8/hr), and set any conditions of work thy like, even take all the trip earnings. I like that one. I will not select trip and I will give excellent customer service to anybody that enters my car.

They know what is obtainable. Uber has selected me alongside a few other drivers on two different occasions to chauffeur home guest after an Intl Uber event. Within just 2hrs, drop off your rider and come back and pick again until the two hrs are over, If its a long trip then u continue your work after u drop the rider. Guess what? They paid us 8k for just 2hrs work, we still got paid for the trips plus bonus for the number of trips u do within the 2hrs time frame. That's d way it should be, for all d stress and wahala, there should be a guaranteed income for being online and driving around looking for trips for them and fulfilling it with "yes sir" and "yes ma"

If Uber/Bolt pays u even 4k guaranteed for every hour u work, and somebody comes to say u should leave e-hailing and go and do farming or agent, u no go slap am grin That means 32k a day for 8hrs of work. Omo over dignity go dey Uber drivers work.
