I benefited from this thread a lot while trying to figure things out myself so, I decided I'd help with some info of my own.

I'm a software engineer and recently got an employment offer from a german company. I already knew the wait time for the appointment was insane so even before the interview process concluded, I was already looking for alternatives. I came across the fast track process for skilled workers during my search. https://www.make-it-in-germany.com/en/looking-for-foreign-professionals/targeted-recruitment/entering-working-in-germany/the-fast-track-procedure-for-skilled-workers/

Then when I got the employment offer, I informed the employer about the crazy wait times and the ability to fast track. Thankfully they were already aware of the fast track process so they were happy to go that route.

They requested that my degree certificate be certified and I did that at the Ministry of Foreign affairs in Abuja. After they had this and other documents (reference letter from past employers, passport data page, mawista health insurance), they applied for the pre-approval from their end. I can't say exactly how long this took because I don't know when they applied but, I sent the final document they needed on October 15, 2020. They also sent me a bunch of documents I had to sign and get back to them.

The company informed me they got the pre-approval on November 2, 2020 and I applied for an appointment same day using the WITH Approval link. I got a response for an appointment same day as well for November 20, 2020. Went for the appointment with all my documents and some extras that the company sent me to submit along.

At the appointment, I made a mistake by not photocopying the extra documents the company sent me. I assumed they'd take it as-is and tried to explain the company asked me to just submit this alongside the application. But the man that attended to me was very agitated by this because according to him, they're not "original documents" and I needed to have copies. It was all a lot of documents and making two copies of all made no sense to me (I didn't tell him this lol, I just stopped talking because he started saying I was arguing even though I was just trying to explain).

Long story short, I only gave him the documents I had copies for and he added those to a docket/file and gave me to take in. But I still went in with the other documents. At the appointment the lady asked questions about why you want to go, how you got the job, future plans etc. Then she specifically asked for a document which wasn't in the docket, she said if I had it, it would be an instant visa approval and she kept repeating the German name of the document. I looked for it in the documents the company sent and I found it thankfully, it was the Federal Employment Agency approval (not to be confused with Vorabzustimmung or the "pre-approval" ).

She also complained about me not having copies of that Federal Employment Agency approval document but she took it. I used the opportunity to submit some other documents the company sent that I thought would help, like university degree recognition stuff.

On November 25, I got the approval mail and was asked to submit health insurance plus travel dates. Submitted the documents by November 26. The consulate sent back my documents by December 2, 2020 but DHL delayed and I got it all by December 4, 2020.

Hello tempuser2

I have a couple of questions about the references from past employers
1.) Do the references have to come from the company's HR or they can come from a supervisor or colleague?
2.) Do you need a reference from every company you worked at?
3.) Is there a template for the references?

To me it's better you tell them you will leave after your studies. Cos they may not give you visa if you say otherwise. Many have been denied cos of this.

you have to be diplomatic as well. The German embassy is very cunny. You also have to play their games.
1. I believe you know what to write her. Just write an epistle of love story in MS word and later convert it to PDF
2. be very diplomatic here, Germans never answer questions directly cos of legal reasons. I do not know what you told them during your student visa, but most people always jam talk by saying they will further with PHD and come back to Nigeria to impact their knowledge. So the best thing to answer here should be that " at the moment you need your family to be close to you to enable you focus on your studies and long distance relationship is having an effect on your studies" . By saying this, your not being direct and they cant quote you out of context in the future.
3. Get a block account and send it to them.
4. Rent a bigger space. each adult is 12m3 . so do your calculation by the number of families you have . GERMANS do not care about the number of space. they care about the size of the apartment.

Work visa process is easier in Dubai,

I applied for appointment and got a response that same day to come to the embassy 2 days later, but I had to postpone it to the following week because I was waiting for the physical copy of the Labour Office pre approval.

Visa interview was very straightforward and the officer was very friendly and helpful. Just a few questions. 3 working days later approval email, and 3 days later visa was collected. So everything took a week from Appointment Date. Landed in Germany a few days ago.

Today I went to the German Consulate office in Banjul, the Gambia to pick up my passport, but I was surprised that my study visa application was refused. The Reason is hereby attached - (Translated already from German to English). I applied for Bachelor's degree, which I even started in October last year, in fact, I am already writing my 1st-semester exams - but all online. I blocked 10,521EUR with FINTIBA Bank. The primary reason for refusal was that why should I apply for another bachelor's degree when I have already got one. But what I had is HND in Banking & Finance, and in Germany, HND is not accepted for a Master degree because it is not really equivalent to a bachelor's degree in the first place.

Please I would to make an appeal for this decision, in case there are people here who have got an idea of how to go about this. I will really appreciate your kind gestures.

Re: General German Work And Family Re-union Visa Enquiries by webtouch: 12:20am On Feb 26, 2021
I asked someone about this and below is his response:

In a nutshell, his performance in the interview is below par. His inability to convincingly defend his purpose of studying is a red flag. Only a lenient VO will let it slide.

He can appeal, if he is lucky enough he will get called back maybe for another interview.

He should include it in the appeal letter that the reason for his poor performance at the interview was for some unfortunate issues happening at home which took its toll on his mental health. He only managed to come for the interview as he didn't want to cancel the interview less than a week to the appointment. He is therefore mentally ready to ace the interview if allowed to.
Of course, he should include the progress he has made with his studies in the appeal letter.

Hello my people, please I need guidance on filling the Questionnaire form for the family reunion application.

1. For someone that did both registry and Engagement, would both the Customary and Statutory marriage part be filled or just one?

2. Contact details of deponents of affidavits (if not mentioned above), What does this mean, and is it my spouse's mother that has to do this or the father?

3. Contact details of all employers in Nigeria My spouse is currently self-employed but has worked in some companies before, should she just tick the self-employed and leave listing the previous employers or fill both?

4. Will this form titled Merkblatt zur Überprüfung nigerianischer Urkunden im Wege der Amtshilfe also be filled?

1. I filled all the marriage types that i did, but i think the one more important is the statutory marriage.
2. Deponent is anyone that deposed an affidavit for you e.g, affidavit of spinsterhood is deposed by head of the family and that of age declaration by mother, so you fill in thier details.
3. Just go with the self employed one, if you want. Than creating too much room for investigation.
Re: General German Work And Family Re-union Visa Enquiries by Oriaku1: 9:16am On Mar 02, 2021
(1) yes both marriage will be filled

Hi everyone

Please has anyone gotten an appointment date for family reunion? It's few days to make it a year since I booked and the wait is frustrating.☹️

I will suggest you chill till it is 14 or 15 months. Just talking from personal experience but there is nothing that cannot happen.
